Since there is no helpful tools to managing guild in this game (last log in time) I have some questions and was hoping ANET or another player could help me.

I heard:
Some guild leaders use server restarts in order to keep track who is active. On a server restart all information from the roster is erased and everyone becomes “unknown”. Then when someone logs in this “unknown” gets replaced with the character and account information. So for now I am looking at who is my roster is unknown.

  1. Question is: Is server restarts the same as the message we get that “New build is available”?

Or is a server restart different than that?

  1. If you see a person is removed from roster and is no longer there, but see no indications from guild history that they have left, what does that mean? Did they delete their character??

I beg beg ANET to put better guild management tools in this game:

Examples:
Guild Suggestions:
-Ability to send Guild Wide Mail
-Ability to send Officer Mail
-A Chat channel for Guild officers
-a Log in or log off indication in guild chat of members
-Message of the day being auto posted in guild chat upon log in.
-A last log in time for guild members in roster
-List of other guilds your members are representing or members of.

Agreed. The guild management tools are severely lacking. Since a person can represent multiple guilds, I would also like to see something that indicates total time the guild has been represented by each member and how much guild rep each member has contributed.

It also bugs me when somebody joins the guild there is no announcement in guild chat so they can be welcomed to the guild.

It amazes me that after 3 months this game still has little to no guild managing tools, srysly how hard can it be, In a game where a guild can have 500 players and you can’t even see when the person last log in, how is a Guild Leader supposed to keep the guild cleaned of inactive or unhelpful players. My guild has been having this problem for a while now we are constantly hitting 500 members and separating the actives from the inactives is painful because there’s so many ppl and its nearly impossible to keep track of all of them.
So pls ANET give Guilds Better managing tools and better rankings customization.

As a guild leader, like others, I find the management tools for guilds severely lacking. Why wasn’t some of this stuff included on release? I mean no inactivity log…really? Please anet..give us better tools to manage our guilds!

Im also a guild leader for a 500 man guild, its insanely hard to clean our inactive members of a guild this size without the basic tools pretty much every other game has.

Even worse we are limited to 2 mails a minute, when I need to contact all of my 12 officers it takes ages. to sort of basic meetings and other content.

A officer only MOTD would be useful too. and maybe a more complicated bank tools such as people can only take out 3 items a day etc.

Server Guild Roster.
Showing in an overview list every guild on that particular homeworld/all servers (maybe optional to show the guild in that list) along with their logo, playstyle (WvW,Events, Inis,sPvP,Craft, Trade, RP), guild points earned total, online members, total members and maybe recruiting note.

As an experienced guild master I can say that I’m lacking the following tools to manage my guild more efficiently:

- Being able to see when a certain account was online for the last time (As mentioned above)
- Separating invitation rights from promotion rights. (I want my members to be able to invite others, but NOT give them promotion rights)
- Being able to edit the current MOTD without completely having to rewrite everything (I’m actually using a word document now..)
- Message of the day should show up in a player’s chat when they log on
- It should be possible to send a guild-wide mail as a guild master
- More extensive guild bank options. Being able to determine how many stacks a certain rank can take from a certain bank.
- A fix to the problem where after being online for a while I am unable to remove any members from the guild by right-clicking their names. The only option that remains is ‘report’ for some reason

I am the leader of a 400 member guild and I have been having these problems for a long time. The most important thing that needs to be added to the guild management is that I need to be able to see when someone has logged on last. Guild Wars 1 had it so then why not 2. Guilds in an MMO keep an MMO active and organized. This is even more important in Guild Wars 2 because WvW is run by mostly guilds. I beg Anet to take all these leaders requests and ingrate better functions for guild management. For me and lots of others, seeing when a member has logged on last is most important.

I concur with this, i have to keep telling good people we’re full in our guild when i know full well we have a lot of dead weight but it’s very hard to pinpoint where. I don’t really get why it’s like this as GW1 had these tools.

Yes furthermore MoTD should have its own tab, since It should bring useful information of the guild, Including Officers names rules events etc…

Also notice its very hard for a Guild Leader to mass mail guildies, theres isnt an mail all guildies option for GL and thats a fail or even just be able to make contact groups.

And plz break up the admin lower ranks. I’m in a guild of 500 active member. If one of our officer’s decided to quit and get kitten. They could kick 500 member from our guild.

So for the moment our officer’s have to be the lowest rank in our guild.

Side note. OP we use 2 ranks to keep are member active. We set them into rank 1 at the 1st of every month. Promote them to rank 2 as we see them log in. Then at the end of the month kick anyone left in rank 1. Then reset everyone back down. Its a lot of work. But for now it gets the job done.

I’m gonna chime in here too. Its been several months now and we have a pretty poor interface for guilds. (I seem to remember ANet saying that they were going to offer us something pretty good for guilds prior to release). I say, pretty poor.. but I really am being polite. I love the game overall, but this really needs serious attention.

UI and grouping systems that enhance social interaction and coordination are a big part of MMO’s and guilds. For all the things that ArenaNet has done right in GW2, they are severely lacking on guild management and grouping tools.

The lack of a “Private” grouping system or private squad system for guild only events is a big frustration for many. At the very least they need to allow commanders to hide the pin AND still retain all the functions of a squad. The C&S system is the only way to group more than 5 people….. and sometimes you don’t want to invite the entire server to guild events.

There are a number of threads covering this issue, and I am /bumping this one in particular because it merits the issues that I feel should also be addressed.

On a little more critical note;

This game has ‘Guild’ in it’s name, and despite the intent it implies, it’s been not very friendly with the guild management features.

This is an important issue ArenaNet needs to address as soon as possible. Focusing on content and not handling the Core UI issues and tools, seems kind of backwards to me.

I agree with
-Being able to send a guild wide mail, would be nice and effective way to let even offline members know about something that the guild is planning such as dates and times to run guild missions.
-A more efficient way to track how active guild members are
-Would be nice to have the message of the day appear on log in or when changed but as things are right now if people want to know the message of the day nothing is stopping them except maybe missing a G key and a left click button
-The lack of announcement of guild members joining or logging off/in but as for the in/off sorta a privacy thing as it is also with the what guilds are your members a part of but joining it would be nice although not to difficult to have the person recruiting say “Welcome [name] to the guild”
-An events calender would be nice like it for the same reason as a guild wide mail something that could be solved by having a guild website or forum but not everyone has one and not all guild members use.

Would like to add
-An alliance system with the ability to join multiple guilds you’d imagine that would be the obvious next step.
-A sort of guild survey/poll whatever would be nice granted could be done through a guild wide mail but would have to be manually sorted. Would be nice system to plan for events as not everyone is on at once and would make it easier to find the best time for the guild to do it.
-Add date stamps to someones invitation/joining
-Ability to split or add on to a stack on guild bank I feel like this should be more of a glitch than anything
-Perhaps an ability to personalize your view of the guild roster with being able to put people into categories

I strongly support this, at the VERY least the last log in time ought to be placed there. It’s something really basic for guild management in my opinion. And since the game made it generous enough so one could be a part of more than just one guild, the option of the guilds being displayed sound also equally necessary. The rest might require more complicated coding and time to create and implement without causing many bugs, but gradually they should work on the guild system and not let such a wonderful social aspect of games of this genre go to waste unappreciated.

I’m only saying something pretty much everyone else has – but on that note, I totally concur with everything everyone’s been saying. As has been stated previously, at the VERY VERY LEAST could we please get a “last login date” confirmation on the guild UI? Me and other officers in the guild along with our leader have been in a state of trauma from not knowing what to do about inactive player kicking. Our current and ONLY method of checking on when people last logged in is to go to the leaderboards achievement panel, select guild, hope to god the tool works (it never has for any of us) and then scroll over each individual name to check the date. Last time I tried this it didn’t even show guild members, half the time it showed random people in my friends list instead of people who were actually in the guild.

PLEASE anet improve some of the guild UI – at the VERY very least please add in a last login date.
