Is there any chance there will be an alternate way to get HoM pets? I play ranger and I feel incomplete because every time I open the pet window, I see pet skins I’ll never be able to get. If the servers ever go down on gw1, could you please make them available some other way? I would throw gems at you for sure. I know people with HoM currently would cry foul since, after all, it is for them and their achievements in gw1, however, with these gaping holes in my pet management window, I had to come here and post. I’m not sure how well received this suggestion is so maybe I shouldn’t stick my neck out here, but, yeah, it’s of one my pet peeves in the game.

Well you said it yourself, they are rewards for Guild Wars 1 players they won’t and shouldn’t add make any HoM items available to people who did not earn them.

In that case, I suggest either removing special pet skins from the pet management window or giving every profession ability colors (green mesmers for example) obtainable with HoM points. I say that because it’s weird to have a favorite profession I can’t max in pve. Either all professions should be that way or none, but, I suppose that is just my opinion and I can live with it as it is. It’s only a suggestion. God walking amongst mere mortals is cool and similar but I don’t care about that because it’s an optional title who’s missing presence isn’t even noticable in the UI. For completionists, this is kind of maddening and I’d hate to put 1500 hours into an old game when gw2 is staring me in the face. It’s just not worth it.

I see where you’re coming from Chopps, but selling the Hall of Monument rewards on the gemstore would do more harm than good to both ArenaNet and the playerbase.

It would be nice if ArenaNet started releasing prestigious, rare ranger pet skins into certain zones that take hard work and dedication to get, like the phoenix at the end of the Factions campaign in GW1, the rainbow phoenix for progressing in the “Kind of a Big Deal” title track, the black widow spider for finishing a quest in the Underworld, etc.

You’re not missing out on anything anyways, the HoM pets have the same stats as pets you can get in GW2.

Oh, yeah, I know they’re just skins. But, like, every time I help a new ranger (I run ranger pet nights where I help lowbies find pets), they get really sad when I tell them “you can’t have that”. It’s not explained well either. Even experienced rangers sometimes say “oh I can’t get black widow without playing gw1? That sucks, no wonder I never found one”. It’s just a weird design choice ImO. This isn’t a weapon skin. We’re talking about my built in autoattack, my second autoattack: my pets.

I think I’ve said enough, obviously, I’m too attached. It would have been better to give them unique armor skins…not entire pet models because that alienates a large portion of players: the new ones. An armor skin is an armor skin but a pet is, well, much more valuable in my mind.

Some have told me that the way gw1 is empty now, it might even be impossible to get HoM points maxed out at this point. But I never played gw1 (obviously) so I don’t know if that’s true.

Nope, the pet window is much more prevalent. Every time I show people gw2 at my house they’re like “oh, wow, 1500 hours in this game and you STILL don’t have all the pets!?!” Haha.

Another way to think about it is synonymous with triforge. Eventually they released syzergy. Similarly, after a few years or whatever, you guys that have the skins all to yourselves for a long, long time. Maybe then it’s time to open up a little bit. Or else a way to earn HoM points in gw2. It’s just really lame to start a new game and find out “oh…I have to play an old game to max this one out? Lame”.

HoM point could not be earned in GW2, it would take away their very meaning (Not speaking of merely reward people who actually worked to get those points in GW.)
Do not get me wrong, I too would love to have an easy way to get those pets, being the only ones left for my Ranger, though it would be kind of unfair for those who had to struggle to achieve the 30 or 50 HoM points.
Besides, I am playing both Gw and GW2 these days, working my way to the 30 points, and finding the first game rather pleasant and still active enough!

You could just buy GW1 and run through that, can’t remember how long it took overall to get those 30 points but I can tell you it definitely wasn’t too long.

While the population in gw1 may have dropped, it’s not zero. Find a guild that is doing that and buddy up with someone who is also starting on it. With both of you working on it, it’s not so bad. Better than sitting wanting it and hoping it gets added to the game in a few years.

Maybe create a new suggestion that asks for a change just to the UI. Specifically, I think it might work with something like a two part panel for pets:

• Default: all the pets obtainable within GW2 only.
• Special: unlocked with a token obtainable in the HoM; adds the couple of new slots for the HoM pets.

I would support that (or something like it) so that those with unlinked accounts don’t have to see the empty slots. I think it’s a reasonable request, although perhaps not a top priority — maybe something for if/when the upgrade the panel so it’s sortable or when we can keep more than a few pet names.
