I’ve just finished my first play through (Asura Mesmer) and went back to my Home Instance and was saddened by the lack of change.
[/spoiler] Sure you’ve got a few things – Your order choice person, the representatives of the tribal races (In my Case – Shashoo, the Quaggan, also on a side note, why is it just him, i know in other home instances his whole pod shows up. anyways….), Deputy Mira and Scholar Inkblood and his pet seem to be in all of them. [/spoiler]
I’m just feeling the lack of home instance changes many of us players are. It’s an amazing feature, but it really needs an expansion.
So, I was kinda thinking, what if they’re was certain missions available after you complete your story. They could be “Home Instance Mission”. Where you could go out into the world and find Friends/Allies and see how they’re doing and whatnot, but then you could invite them to move into your home instance.
[/spoilers] I.E You could go to the pier where you last saw Ceera, and maybe she’d tell you some story about her and Tomm. Maybe she could tell you that in disbelief of his death she tossed their wedding ring into the sea and she stands here every day hoping it comes back. Then the player would have to dive into the water, fight some monsters (Maybe Scuba Diver Skritts who think theyre’s a SHINY down there. Who knows?) And then when the player returns with the ring, Ceera is shocked and amazed, and realizes that she’s gotta to keep living for tonn’s sake and then the player offers her a palce in their home instance.
And then maybe in the future, you could find Ceera in your home instance and she asks you to collect certain items, and when you return with these items (and then probably leave/reenter) Ceera might be near a little memorial to Tonn. (Or maybe a memorial for a certain mentor?) [/spoilers]
I’d also like to see more interactivity with the residents of the home instance. Like maybe your tribal race could have anActivity (Hylek Tag, Ogre Arena, Grawl Race, Skritt Hide and Seek, Quaggan——fishing maybe?) But That’d be a nice fun way to bring more interaction.
Also introducing Dynamic Events inside your Home Instance could be exciting. [/spoiler] Maybe if you chose the “lose a brawl” in the norn biography, and then later you go on and beat the dude who beat you, so maybe occasionally he’d come stomping in for a rematch. Or perhaps, in an asura home instance where they chose the Transatmospheric Converter in their biography, it could go haywire and the weather in the home isntance would be weird until you fixed the device, or perhaps if you chose the Val-A Golem, perhaps one would malfunction and go crazy, and you’d have to stop it. Or for Charr’s the person you chose as your sparring partner would occasioanlly want to spar with you. Or even something simple like if you chose the White Stag, (It’s stated that it gives you a magic boon if you catch it) so maybe once a day it’d give a 10min increase to EXP, Karma, Magic Find or whatnot.
And I’ve seen many opportunities for stuff like this through my entire playthrough and even more now that i’m starting on my norn ranger (currently 36) [/spoilers] Like that Dredge, Vladok. Could recruit him to your home instance and maybe through Home Instance Missions build up a dredge crew that could once a day give you a random piece of gear? and since that mission is norn-specific, you could find similar effects for other races too. Building up your krewe for asura. Or recruiting an iron legion person into your war band for charr. Recruting the armorsmith (Occan? sorry I can’t remember his name right off the top of my head) from the early on sylvari story for sylvaris. And i’m sure you could figure out something for humans – even if I can’t right this moment.
I know this is mostly a rant from a random player, but I do love walking into my home instance and seeing the npcs that i’ve seen throughout my personal story, but please GW2 make something more of it. It’s kinda pitiful.
So yeah, any feedback would be appreciated and i’m excited to hear what other people might think to improve the home instance, or maybe you have a good idea for the “Home Instance” type missions I’m suggesting. I have many more in my head that i’d be willing to share if people are interested, as well. I’d also be really interested in seeing which NPCs you all think got basically ignored by the personal story, which NPC did you come across and go “OH. He’ll definitely show up in my Home Instance” and then didn’t.
