Here’s my share of suggestions. It’s gonna be a long post with a few grammatical mistakes, so good luck reading it all (edit: Gotta split it in 2 posts cause of the body length limit)

1.) HOUSING:
(TL;DR: Current home instance is boring, we need something more interactive)

-Thoughts:
Okey here’s the thing. I know i’m not the only one who enjoys playing mmorpgs because of the “bonus features” and not the normal farming/questing stuff, so having an interactive housing system would make the game defenitelly more fun to play and attractive in many aspects.
-Suggestions:
To get a house we would first need a land, so to get things started, we’d have to talk with an NPC in every bigger town from which you will be able to buy some land.
Players would be able to choose between different types of lands with different properties (small, big, with water near it, surrounded with trees, windy, fogy, ect.). Of course the price would depend based on which properties you would choose. To make it more “role-playish”, the land list (with random land properties) would refresth once per day and once a player would buy that land, it would disapear from the list.
Players would also be able to make a request for the land, making the price for it go up (they would get the land when it would be avaliable, not when they would pay for it).
Ok so now we have the land – what now? Let’s build a house! From the same npc we could buy a house blueprint (different house types) which we would then use to actually build the house.
I have 2 ideas on how to build a house:
The easy way (for the developers) would be to talk with the npc and select the blueprint in your inventory. Then the npc will give you a list of materials you will need in order to build the house. When you would want to turn in some of the mats, you would jsut talk with the npc and select that option. The system would keep track on how many more mats you have to get in order to build the house. When entering your area while the house is still being constructed, you would see the construction zone with all the wood and random stone lying around and stuff like that.
The other (the one that would actually make it feel even better) would consist of players building their houses on their own.Using a system similar to the one in WvWvw, after buying a blueprint of a house, we would go on our land and use the blueprint wherever we would want to. This would create the construction zone with which we could interact. Instead of wvws “supplies” we could have different housing supplies which could be crafted by ourselves.
The mats needed to build a house would differ based on the type of the house.
SO BAM, now we have a house what now?
The npc would offer other types of blueprints. Let’s say – a barn-like place, where we could actually store our minis – which would summon then and make them wonder around the barn.
Another possibility would be a workstation, a haven for your ranger’s pets (so if you have a ranger, having this structure, would display all of your your tamed animals -account wide), a praying monument, different types of fences to get around your land, fountains, statues, ect…
Ok having covered the exterior, let’s move inside the house. This would make the current crafting way more interesting and fun to use. Players could craft their own shelves, chairs, tables, beds, paintings, vases, ect. and then put them inside their houses however they want.

The system could be extended even more by implementing a “farming” system, with which we could actually plant different type of seeds and in a few days gather the product.

2.) GUILD FUNCTIONS :
(TL;DR: Right now guilds are kind of useless and senseless. They serve mostly for social purouse. We need more interaction with the guild.)

-Suggestions:
More administration options (hate it that the invite function is linked to the rank-administrator function.)
Welcome message displayed in chat (or on screen) when a player logins or when someone changes it.
Other notifications in chat (when someone buys influence points for the guild, when someone reaches a certain amount of achievement points, when someone gets a precursor, when someone logins, ect)
Guild battles in PvE world (an actual war system)
More Guild bonuses (+ permanent bonuses)
Decreasing the max amount of guilds a player can be in
Option to see guild members on the map
Alliances
More missions
Maybe guild dungeons

3.) RP/FASHION:
(TL;DR: More social interaction between players. Make town clothes actually worth wearing)
-Suggestions:
More themed (and attractive..) town clothes
Color change option of the weapon
More titles
Minis effects and an option to “equip” one so it won’t just get deposited when you deposit all of your items in your bags.
Marriage system

4.) LIVING STORY:
(TL;DR: Making the living story more dynamic would be fun)

-Thoughts:
In general even if the story goes on every 14 days, the players don’t really get the feeling of being part of it. Most of the time, they are just “easy come easy go” stories that don’t really affect the world or players in any way (except for farmers, they love to do scarlet’s invasions to get lot’s of champ loot).

-Suggestions:
Living story should have actual consequences in the world. (for example make Scarlet blow up half of LA or some other town and start rebuilding it slowly in the following living story updates. Players could work on it together and gather materials different materials to rebuild the town faster.
Possibility to create a new town in different zones (For example with votes, like when we had to vote a few living stories ago ect.) and once again – Building it slowly, starting with a camp and making it bigger and bigger – depending on how the players would work on it.

I can kinda get it that someone would prefer that the dev team puts time into making dungeons and armor rather then stuff like House Building, but I wouldn’t mind if they acually did something completely diffrent. Up until now it’s all been new dungeons, new armor, new weapons. It’s like having steak every day. Sure, it’ll taste great the first few days, but after a while you hunger for a nice salad.

When I say that I’d like to see this game expand, I mean that I’d like to see it branch out. I’d like to see it become more of a world, rather then a formula driven arcade machine that updates every 2 weeks. When I think about expanding, I think about things like new professions (Fishing anyone? No? Still no one interested? Okay…), Player Housing, more social mini games like being able to play a special card game or something. Being able to go visit a place to learn about Lore. Being able to re-live Personal Story missions, and much more.

Death and destruction are all fine and dandy for a video game, but the reason why other MMO’s got so big, is because besides fighting, they also offered other things to keep people interested. If you can shift your interest from one thing to another, it means you don’t get bored of the same thing too quickly.

All that said, I do think there’s plenty of things Anet doesn’t need to support which was mentioned in the original post. Marrying doesn’t require any type of special additions to the game. You can just die your clothes black and your dress white, get some friends and boom. Good to go.

As for the player housing. I like some ideas and not sure about the others. Instead of having to bid on your piece of land, I wouldn’t mind you being able to pick whichever place you like. (Grass, Grass + Water, Forest, Snow, etc.) As for the houses themselves. Honestly, I wouldn’t mind simply being able to buy a house (Shack, House, Manor, Mansion) without anything in them. Allowing the players to decorate it. With the addition of Housing, you can also add a Craftsman profession which can make furniature and add more items to the ingame store.
I love the suggestion of being able to add a small farm to your house. Maybe like a Pumpkin patch blueprint which you can put down and harvest 1 or 2 pumpkins from every day. Kinda like those Candy Corn notes you get in your home instance.

Most of all I like Player Housing because it creates a point of rest during your gameplay. GW2 is very much: ACTION ACTION ACTION, LOOK HOW EPIC THIS IS! Allowing for very little points to catch your breath. Resulting in everything that’s suppose to be epic, becoming mundane. (No contrast between content).

And last, about Lion’s Arch being destroyed and having to rebuild. Not a bad idea. Sorta reminds me of the AQ event in Wow, where the army was heading into this new closed off Raid and all players could help out with the war efforts by handing in herbs, bandages, weapons, etc. Lower level players would of course get a smaller reward, but as long as that Supply counter kept going up, it felt as if you were really helping.

Anyways, I’m rambling. Just my 2 cents!

Those are some very interesting ideas and I for one would farm/buy gems for sure if it meant getting housing. Though I can see the problem of “owning land” in an mmo…

Firstly, let me combine 2 of your points here, the Housing and the Guild upgrades; I agree that since the game is called Guild Wars, at the very least, guild messages and housing should be a pressing thing to develop. I’d be alright with a gate slapped somewhere in the cities that would port all members of a guild (not just the 5 in party) into a personalized instance. The removal of culling has made guild roleplaying next to impossible because the emotes carry such a long way and in any higher populated area it’s become impossible to follow or not miss emotes by guildmates. It’s horribly annoying, to the point where I’ve seen people abandon map roleplaying and moving to textual roleplay outside of the game altogether. So I wonder what it would take to develop a guild upgrade where you could get a generic home instance for all members of a single guild to get into, at the very least?

Clothes: I am very grateful to Anet for transmuting crystals and dye change options. No other MMO would allow such creativity. I think they’ve been listening to suggestions in regards of new town clothes or clothes skins, and have been trying to bring more in. Very appreciated, please don’t stop adding new skins; they’re something I don’t hesitate to get gems for if I like them. Same with the hair updates for all races.

One thing that bothers me though, is that the skins look less than stellar on male models, while they look completely bafflingly beautiful on females; for example the Phoenix skin or the Witch costume; it doesn’t even look like the same set. I don’t think there’d be any kind of problem to fix a bit, say, the female Phoenix to fit the male figure and release the male counterpart, fitted for females, as another set. If choosing the skins to release is a problem; why not let the player vote which one they like best? PS: more actual pants/shorts for light armors please, we basically only have long gown-like skirts, save for AC pants and the embroidered leggings…

Minis: I would love the minis being equipped, or even have stats? Very appreciated the fact that some of them have sounds! They’re very fun and sometimes even a stress relief, especially Evon.

Titles: Yes I would love those. Perhaps at least an Order Title; Lightbringer, Warmaster, Magister? I mean, us serving the Orders is a big chunk of the Personal Story, I wonder how come we don’t get to keep the titles we earn through and are addressed by NPCs in it?

Marriage/Couple status: I’m assuming by this, Spira, you’re referring to something similar to what Lineage 2 had? Where, correct me if I’m wrong, but a couple was to do some kind of quest at the end of which they’d both get a symbolic item and of course, the status of being tied to one another. I remember liking the feature, it’s very immersive. Even if it were just a title people could earn/buy together, or physically a ring skin, it would be definitely something I’d work gladly to get, stat.

Living story: I must say the story has been progressively getting more interesting for me personally, but I will agree it doesn’t feel immersive. The events such as Dragonbash and Halloween have left more of a mark on me than the rest of the Living Story, save for partially the Jubilee and the Aetherblades/Scarlet, and I believe it’s because there’s been physical changes to the world. A string of related changes would be nice, which is what I’m hoping Anet is after anyway, and we just sometimes… don’t see the bigger picture? Actually having to help with re-construction or see the consequences of simple player tasks like that sounds very appealing.

So yes, here’s my input. Hope this thread at least grazes the dev team…?

I like to suggest and to talk, because that’s what this forum is for.

But I’ve got a friend who knows one of the people at Anet. According to him, maybe 1% of these suggestions are even looked at, let alone taken seriously.

So, sadly enough, probably not. It’s been a year and player housing, promised a while ago, hasn’t even been mentioned on the backburner yet.

In an interview with MattVisual they mentioned that they are going to add a housing system ingame, but not anytime soon, since it’s not their priority. They also said that they want to make a good and different housing system that would stand out from the crowd.

Now, i’m aware that the chance to get what i suggested is one in a million.
I didn’t even write this things down expecting them to happen. I do however hope, that if the topic somehow gets noticed, they would find it (or at least parts of it) useful.
Sure 1% isn’t much, but hey, it doesn’t hurt to giving it a try :P

2.) GUILD FUNCTIONS :

I agree with most suggestions here.

Admin lower ranks and guild invites should be separate options.

The guild message is not very prominent; it would be more useful if it displayed in chat upon login (as in GW).

An alliance system is also sorely needed (as in GW). It would be nice to have Alliance Chat.

And players wouldn’t have to constantly switch guilds just so they can chat with their buddies in another guild.

I want player housing so bad, I would be willing to buy a $15-30 fee just for the ABILITY to purchase land and build a house and customize it.

I am totally agree with you! To 100%!
I have nothing more to say about this… let’s just hope Anet actually make some of these in the future patches!
