I, like so many others here, was also an avid GW1 player. I absolutely loved playing monk. My favorite thing in the game was using all the skills to come up with unique builds. I’m not going to continue to run through this reminiscent rambling and instead go into a different one to explain my point.

When I first heard about the skills being dependent on the weapon (way way way long ago), I did not like the idea very much. I didn’t like the idea of every single ranger in the game using a longbow to have the exact same 1-5 skills, or every single elementalist in the game using staves to have the exact same 1-5 skills for each attunement. I thought that there was no way it could be that simple because how could the game shift from GW1’s amazing build creation to something where the builds are mostly pre-made and you just get to add the icing.

The conclusion I came to (again way way way long ago) was that there would be different types of staves. An Orrian staff vs an Ornate staff vs a Golden Wing Staff vs Ceremonial Staff and so on. And each one of those staves would have a different set of 5 skills in a different order. I thought this was how we were going to maintain the incredible ability to create extremely different and unique builds, but in a different way.

Thus is my suggestion: In a massive update in the future, change the way weapons work. Give us back those 500 skills we had per profession via the different types of the same weapon. That way we can go find the specific weapon we want to create that wide variety of builds.

When I heard about GW2 way before the beta from interviews and stuff I tought that each weapon has its own Skill set. But I thought there would be more Skills to choose from. For example I like to use the Axe as Warriormainhand weapon but if do so I would miss Swords Leapattack which I like very much.

I gladly would trade the axe throw for a charge attack like Swords have.

So my suggestion would be that there should be a few additional attacks/Skills (like 3 for onehander 5 for twohander) for each weaponset so you can adjust weapon to your playstyle.

This wouldnt be too OP and hard to balance bt would give the player more freedom in playing.

Make them learnable from a trainer for Skillspoints or Karma or whatever might fit.

I think GW1 Skillsets was aweful. Sure you had alot to choose from but you easily get overwelmed by the amount and balancing 500 Skills and its combinations is much harder than balancing 5 (or 10) for each weaponset.

I miss going to a skill trainer and actually scrolling threw a hundred different skills and picking and choosing what I liked.

It would be nice if there were more ways to make builds different rather than every weapon of the same type giving the exact same skills. Not to mention the healing and elite skills are only used under specific conditions. That really only gives us 3 skills (7-9) to actually choose, and the problem with those is they all have like 45-60 second cooldown.
