How To Incorporate healers into the game
This is simply a bad idea, trying to implement a mechanic that is not needed nor benefic to the game. Healers have been replaced by the supporting role, which requires significantly more skill.
treadmill, of being in that obvious pattern of every time I catch up you are going to
put another carrot in front of me” – Mike O’Brien right before Ascended weapons
NO.
What is with all these “i want to be a healer” threads popping up? There’s only about EVERY SINGLE OTHER MMO out there there that has a dedicated healer, we do not need this and I can only pray this is one promise of Anets that they stick to (though I don’t subscribe [yet] that ascended armour has broken any).
I don’t think I like this idea very much.
In exchange for me allowing a healer to join my group, I’m rewarded by being stripped of my ability to heal myself and forced to be dependent on someone who may or may not prioritize healing me when my life is in danger.
I do understand the desire to play a healer, and have empathy for those who want to play one, but I just don’t think it’s going to happen. I don’t think this game is set up to allow for a healing class without current players having major changes to their playstyles being forced on them.
Honestly I think its not a great idea, I think they should make your healing skills better though because mine does nothing.

These threads are popping up because ArenaNet nerfed support builds with the 5-man heal limit.
When there was no limit, dedicated healing mechanics were not needed. You could heal the allies who needed it no problem. Now you can’t. Instead of healing the dying guy, you heal the man standing next to him, or his pet.
ArenaNet launched GW2 with support builds who could heal others effectively. They clearly intended it to be part of the game. If they are still to be part of the game, they have to make them effective again.
If the 5-man limit remains, that means dedicated (or targeted) heals of some kind.
Otherwise, just admit you can no longer support heal in this game.

No. That’s a lousy idea.

It’s trickier to dodge and spam skills, but is it more fun? I was really disappointed at the lack of any kind of healer in this game, cause it was so much fun in gw1. As some other user said, the dungeon combat in this game is akin to any other mmo when they’ve lost their healer or tank; you just run around, deal damage, and try not to get hit.
I don’t like it much.
Part of the reason I played gw1 for so long was because I kept making new characters to do sc’s with; there were so many builds for all professions I always had something to work towards. Now, it doesn’t really matter what class you play with(which is really nice in a way,) but dungeons get old really fast because it’s the same thing each time; you can’t switch from tank to healer to dps, you’re ALWAYS every one of those at the same time. I don’t exactly want a healing-specific class, but maybe some way for one or two players to become healers somehow….
That’s what I think.
I really miss being a dedicated primary healer, please have this implemented.
It´s because pure healer role in a party is more about macros than real playerskill. When someone don´t know how to play but want to be welcome in everyparty just play a healer. Everything works as a charm. Start your macros and be happy being a dead bag in a party.
The kitten generic mmo games mechanics created this lousy players. And don´t even try to tell me that I´m wrong. Good players know that more than be a healer in GW2 they can be a support for their party (removing conditions, creating combo fields, using combo finishers, shouts, buffs…) and even have one or two skills to help the DPS amount.
But it cannot be achieved with macros because macros and addons don´t think.
A real good player in GW2 is the one that real work in a group and do multitask role, but the laziness of some players is really annoynig me.

Being a healer is not being lazy, not at all. I never used macros in gw1, by the way, and lots of other people didn’t either.
Giving buffs to other players and reviving them is kind of like a healer.
Noooooooooooooooooooooo, lots of people never used macros because in GW1 was so dificult to bind a key to direct use a skill in a party member… Yeah, ironic.
Telling this to someone who played GW1 and one another generic mechanic MMO will never work.
alter game so that every class gets base 1,000 healing power. maybe it’s my lack of healing power, but my ele can only heal for about 4-5k every 25 seconds. by the time i waste dodges and try to stay alive, i still end up downed or dead before it recharges.
my guardian is able to heal through poison and bleeding, unlike my ele.
resurrecting is like healing too – healing players from 0 HP / gray screen of death.
if there was ever a healer class implemented, the “heal bots” could res players, and get to 80 on ressing, alone. that might be a problem.

My warrior can buffs and get players from downed faster than every other. My mesmer can get players from downed with revenge giving them the time to kill and get out of revenge state. My eng have an elixir that helps a lot to get people from downed state. A thief can even ress totaly a player and help more people to ress together.
An engi can help heal, remove conditions, buff, give retaliation, cripple and poison without changing the weapon. A ranger can remove conditions, heal and give might and swiftness to the party and even can damage the enemy and with a fast switch give some good dps and aoe. A guardian, well let´s not talk about… A elem, everybody thinks on heal and dps, but i prefer only their DPS part…
I don´t imagine another reason why we need some dedicated healer if everyone can help FULL time a party more than just being some heal bot.
