Seriously. Hills are OP. Im not talking about cliffs. Take a wrong step, or leap off a cliff…. SPLAT… dead. Thats fair, thats balanced. Learn to pay more attention, learn to judge distances better, or even, trait the falling trait for less damage.

But hills? You know, those inclines that arent a straight drop off. The ever so casual, slanted in elevation, slopes that you can even sometimes run down without the percieved notion that you will be airborn for a period of time? (see diagram below)
Yeah. We all know these. Hills. OP to the max. Just went you think its safe to skip and dance down that hill, BAM, SUPER SECRET STEALTH MULTI ATTACK ALPHA STRIKE 5x for 4000 damage each!

L2pla…. er… wait a minute…. no seriously… no amount of edumication or lernin is gonna keep you safe here. Hills and inclines are just THAT powerful. Sneaky too. Whats worse, you have ZERO chance of retaliating against them. Thats ALMOST as bad as thieves (almost)

One might say “Its just a bug”
Is it? IS IT??

Ask yourself… Which is more likely? That anet developers were SO bad in their programming of simple falling physics that it created a horrible bug that can often kill you for moving 2 feet down a hill (highly unlikely scenario right?)…. OR… Some dev was fed up with how underpowered hills have been for years in mmo’s, and took it upon himself to make them so OP that players would forever remember the terror of the downward incline?

Either way… its time for a change… Its time for this blatant abuse of power and destruction to be brought back down to a level that is more what one would expect from hills.

What say you devs? Can we see a nerf to Hills any time in the near future? Or will these continue to be the single most surprise killer in the world of GW2?

I once died using the warrior’s rush down the ramp into Rata Sum—something you can run down with no damage at all. I, too, vote for the hills to be given priority the next time devs feel an irresistible urge to wield the Nerfbat.

I died from this when i was walking down some stairs plains of ashford , ascalon city waypoint. I didn’t realize i was taking damage before i was dead in 3 seconds. And my friend didn’t take any damage. so luckily i got resurrected there.

I’ve never had trouble with hills. Maybe you said something that offended a hill and it told its friends. You know hills have friends in high places.

I guess the mods see a light hearted post about fixing a bug as a “suggestion” and moved my post to that forum. Sigh.

Hills ar ballanced, you’re just bad. Maybe you should play a hill yourself to see how “op” they are…
They are actually kinda up. Low mobility, no real acces to stability, just like the necromancer…

You jump off a cliff, gajning inertia at a rate of 3mph per centimeter, at a 0 to 15 feet, you hit the ground taking 10% of your health.

You run down a hill using sprint at 135% speed, gaining inertia should be NIL as 135% speed is capped. Your downhill slope is 1/12, after 3 feet, your incapped or dead.

Sounds more like they need to buff cliffs. Cliffs are underpowered

What gets me about cliffs is that they are quite selective in whom they target for destruction and do not seem to want to play fair at all. Compare my Guardian, Necromancer and Warrior going over the same cliff. The Necro has a far larger health pool and suffers the most total damage. The Warrior comes in second, not because he is wearing heavy armor as is the Guardian but he has a larger health pool then the Guardian.

So that little test leads me to believe that cliffs have some sort of underlying intelligence and are able to determine who has the highest health and deduct accordingly. Two similar sized heavy armor users, falling at the same rate for the same distance should in theory suffer the same amount of total damage when they arrive at that abrupt ending. That is physics.

So cliffs are definitely using some form of hack to determine the size of the health pool for the person they are attempting to destroy.

Maybe…or maybe you’re just not seeing the ones that are in stealth.

It would explain some of those invisible wall effects that I find here and there. It’s actually a stealthed hill.

You shouldn’t take so much damage from sliding down a hill. I screwed up my knee by dropping 15 ft and landing on it. Every time I slid down a hill, I would come out of it with a minor scrape and some worn down pants.

The amount of damage taken sliding down the side of a hill is stupid imo.

I understand this is a troll post but then again I hate it when you take 48k damage by sliding down a steep hillside on your kitten .

When talking with friends or on ts3 I would refer to this as ‘skid damage’.

The reason there is no response to this I believe is that the coding is deep deep down there and to fix a ‘skid death’ would take more work than most of us imagine it.

A warrior, a guardian, and an elementalist walk into an open field…

Loved your post. Absolutely loved it.

But, to get around the issue on hills, go down at quickly alternating left to right angles using your right mouse button to “weave” your way down, or with your forward+strafe movement keys. It’s when you go down straight that you get destroyed by trillions of grass blades, angles seem to be their only weakness.

Also, the faceplant at the bottom of the hill (if I live) makes me crack up every single time.

This is the best forum thread EVER! And I agree. Hills are overpowered. When I can die from them but survive jumping off a cliff from the same height, there’s a problem.
