How to make Guild Wars 2 Fun
I do agree that there needs to be more ways to differentiate characters as far as builds go. I think one big step for this would be to separate trait skills from stats. Make both work as they currently do but allow people to allocate points into stats and traits independent of one another.
Basically you’re saying there is no endgame, which is the point where I am at now – lack of goals to achieve. Basically you’re going to get the same response & realization I’m slowly getting to – time to play another game or play more casually like say 1-1.5 hrs max/day. Log on, get your dailies done & “housekeeping” your characters, chat to ppl, etc.
Its a great game for casual gamers – which I’ve been complimented on stating, so yeah, that’s what i’ll stick with Also I agree the game is really beautiful & has a lot of nice features. It’s simple enough to grasp rather quickly which is the 10 skills we get to use at a given time. More customization would be great but that’s a short term fix, mechanics/endgame is what will sustain playability.

I agree the game gets boring really fast. Basically you level up and the zones level up too sort to speak so there is no sense of progression except the number of skill points you get and the amount of money you could save.
If we think of those racing games when you start with a class 1 car competing against class 1 cars and later getting class S cars competing against other class S cars, GW2 is very similar to that.
So the sense of leveling disappears on the road, only that in the racing game you qualify in better tiers so you get a sense of your achievements through the Cups you win.
This post feels more like a rant than a suggestion.
What I did pick out was:
- Increase number of primary skills available for increased variety
As for your note about getting stronger and endgame; I definitely feel stronger when I hav leveled up. Even going back to story quests one or two levels up is easier than trying them at the recommended level. So getting stronger as you level is happening. As for the enemies getting harder? That depends on location, not level.
At level 80, you can still go to lower level areas, lower level dungeons etc. Increasing your level increases the content you can play, it does not really increase the difficulty.
I agree with this. I’ve become a pure pvper because of being bored of the pve available. And even though I enjoy pvp that too is getting boring with the one available game mode. This coming from a rank 20.
I really wish they would add epic and insanely difficult 80 maps that were massively large with one waypoint and plenty of challenges to master. welp that gave me an idea for a post. toodaloo lol
It sounds to me like this game might just not be for you. I’ve been playing this game since early access and was the first of my friends to get to 80, but I’m still haing fun. My character is BA, I don’t need to feel like he is. I enjoy the calm pace of things, and running around and just doing whatever I like.
For most of the people responding to this thread it sounds like you’re trying to play this game like a standard subscription model game. You trying to squeeze every ounce of play out of the game to get your money’s worth. That’s the wrong way to play, if you intend to continue enjoying yourselves, as indicated by the fact that you’re not enjoying yourselves.
I was the first to 80 but I only recently completely my story and unlocked explorer on all the dungeons. I take it easy and play the game as I do. Generally speaking the dailies are enough to keep my attention. They’re nothing major but they’re always different so it’s fun to see which parts I’ll be able to complete first to finish it. This is the type of play they’re catering to, and that they expect you to be following. If that’s not fun for you, then like I started with, this may not be the game for you.

The game is designed for casual players, it’s not about subscription based games, it’s about people who want something to occupy their time fully, immersion with rewards & long term goals, has nothing to do with getting your money’s worth. People are bored, they are home or w/e & want something to dive into yet feel like their time is going somewhere.. they want a sense and visual means of accomplishment. This is why legendaries are sought after.. they have no extra stats but people can show them off and feel rewarded for their endeavours. Titles, achievements all mean something because you can show them off.. otherwise you’d be better off with a console game w/ no multiplayer option. It’s about interaction, accomplishment & community.

No, it’s about accomplishment. Interaction and community happen. People want a tangible reward for their efforts. I get that. That’s not what this game is about though. You’re right, it’s designed for casual play. If you’re not playing it like that, and if you’re expecting more out of it than that, then you’re not going to get what you’re looking for. Back to the beginning, this may not be the right game for you.

I agree with you. The game has grown a bit stale. I just posted something here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Creating-Player-Generated-Content-An-Arena/first#post1639588
Does this sound interesting to you?
Part of the problem is that rewards don’t scale with difficulty. It is just as easy to get the same rewards from killing Maw in 2 minutes as it is with doing dungeons and it is with doing events in Orr.
In GW1, there were not only rare skins specific to certain places, rewards were tied to degree of difficulty.
Furthermore, GW1 did a good job of consistently increasing difficulty as you progressed.
GW2 does none of these things. Everything is easy to do and even skins aren’t that much different from one place to another, save the skins you get from grinding dungeons, but those aren’t even that exciting because you KNOW you are going to get them if you do the dungeons enough.
Rares aren’t really rare. they’re only good for Ecto salvages.. Exotics don’t really drop, they are mostly crafted or bought with tokens. And precursors almost never drop.
Very little is exciting, surprising or adventurous – most things you need you decide to get them, do the appropriate grind – and then move to the next thing.
Completely agree with what clay just said, also the OP mentioned weapon variety, I actually expected there to be hundreds of unique weapons for each class, with a different set of skills on each and appearance, stats etc.
The game is relatively well made, but the overall design is not great, dungeons don’t serve the purpose they are supposed to, its just an easy way for people to get exotics, but there is no other purpose to them beyond that, and there is no challenge either. GW1 did it the right way, you didn’t even touch ‘elite missions’ until you already had a strong character, and you didn’t spam them for a week then not go there again like we do here.
Early on I could tell the open world ‘exploration’ was not really exciting, you just go from one point to the next following the minimap and clicking on things that won’t give you anything interesting or even add to the story that much.
I think its too late to change the design of the game though. I think fractals is a step in the right direction, but I suspect it takes a long time to get most of the gear, plus you don’t get the good rewards until you have done it lots of times on the lower difficulties.
