Ok, here it comes guys.

My Idea of how to improve the WvW situation.
Basically there are two kinds of people in WvW:

The Fighter:
This guy/girl looks for fights. They dont go Spvp cause they dont want to play the same point capping map all over and over and just want good fights. Mostly disgusts the big blobs.

The Casual:
Wants to kill People, wants to conquer stuff and be happy to get the Exp , the 1 silver 20 copper and the satisfaction of having the map domination.

There are few more sub categeries with them , but thats not what iam aiming for.

What would these guys stop from zerging and making them play “Conquer and defend” in a proper way?
Awards for holding a Keep , Camp , Tower, Castle.
Basically if there would be a small amount of Money (for example 1 gold for the guildbank each point tick you hold the building you claimed). IF Arena Net make the WvW system hit into the global enconomy imagine how the people would go nuts.

More active WvW groups and guild would form , salary would be shared and war would become bases of the Guild Wars 2 enconomy.
The system would be even easy to realize, since the Guildclaiming is already part of the gamesystem.

And imagine what would happen, lets take tkitten for example. Each tower is held my small guilds ( lets say 5 -10 man people) and imagine you are in one of the guilds , that wouldnt have a tower and you have your 15 guildmate just joined on the map. WHats the first thing you do ? may ask if you get a tower from your fellow server mates? Human greed says no and you have to take enemy towers. That would cause alot more small scale battles and hot spots on the maps.
More motivation and teamwork required to defend the towers and conquer the enemy structures.
Tier of Structure would be giving a huge gold boost (for example a supply camp gives 20 silver / tick , a tower 1 gold/tick , a keep 5gold /tick and the castle would give amazing 20 gold/ tick. But just for the guild bank , how the money is shared is upon the guild)

Big guilds would go for the castle ofc cause it wouldnt be worth to claim a tower for sharing a gold inbetween all the people right? and if you keep the system with 1 Guild can claim only 1 Structure / map you would have a good system that would keep of the big guilds from griefing all towers on one map for example.

AND it would force the people to spread out more about the servers. Cant conquer a tower , cause your guild is to bad / small in that server? lets get on another one (if you know what i mean )

Thats just an idea. I would love to hear the opinions of the player and maybe even from some devs .
Also I would like the thread to stay “clean” from flamming

I actually really like this idea. It would also encourage the feeling of responsibility for the guilds territories, which is almost nonexistant at the moment.

It is quite unfortunate that many of these smaller guilds who enjoyed fortifying and guarding one tower with everything they have already gave up on their favorite playstyle or left the game completely because it is just not rewarded/wanted.

LOVE the idea!!!!!!

Maybe make the reward compounding, so that it gives you more gold each tick. A really small reward just after taking an objective, growing to a large reward by the end of the day (or week?).

I think the casual is the target they need the most. Casuals will only bother playing when they are winning and well ahead. But the issue is its not rewarding. They are interested in their carrots. WvW is harder than PvE. They would rather chase the carrot in PvE which gives better rewards than the harder to catch carrot in WvW that gives less rewards. They would rather be farming CoF runs every 5 minutes earning 5-10 gold per hour than playing WvW earning 1 silver for an event that required them to ouplay and kill players who are probably better than them.

Thats the point why I suggested WvW should get the base of the GW 2 enconomy.

In GW 1 the PvPers were the most richt players. Its harder to become good at PvP and I think outstanding player and guilds should earn some kind of rewards. Yet WvW is only a gold sink and giving the whole server buffs (which are pretty useless imo).
With that motivation Anet could keep more players, since there is actually a goal to reach. A Tower to care about and that in a battlefield.
PvP should always be more rewarding than PvE , it is in nearly every MMO i played yet.

I don’t concur with the player categories, but a gold/badge/guild commendation/other reward (preferably compounding as trendal suggested) is a pretty good idea.

It won’t bring farmers out of PvE, but it doesn’t need to. What it can do is close the gap a little, making things better for the people who do like WvW, and helping shift the balance there further towards holding objectives instead of flipping them for rewards.

WvW needs a bunch of things to be more attractive. This won’t solve all the problems… but it’ll help.

The size of the reward, exactly who gets it, and how competition for the point factors in (harder to hold vs. a stronger server than a dead one), will have to be considered carefully though, as it’s easy to cause big problems this way. Off the top of my head I can’t think of any guilds on my server that could hold a point without off-hours help, and their assistance is going to want some of that bonus too.

IMHO, there are far too many people in WvW, not too few. In fact, WvW might not exist as far as I’m concerned due to the insanely long queue times to get in. If you’re on a server with the reverse problem, though, I could see adding some more rewards to make WvW progression more fun.

I’d not make the reward happen on a per tick basis, but on a dolyak delivery basis. Also, rewards into the guild bank probably aren’t a good idea. That’s very easy for a guild to pervert into say, “free legendaries for officers”, which is a horrible use for the gold. One would hope it got put back into WvW in the form of keep upgrades.

I think it’s not only the rewards that is important, but how the whole defending and assaulting mechanic feels in general. Right now, I don’t feel as if I’m defending or assaulting. There’s no je nais sais quoi in that sort of combat. It feels shallow.

Maybe they should add little feedbacks in hits or implement visual cues, or just something that makes it satisfying when I’m defending or assaulting a point of interest in WvW.

How about a new Guild Missions category, where you have level 1-4 Missions:
Level 1 – Take and hold a Supply Camp for 1 hour, with 2 upgrades
Level 2 – Take and hold a Tower for 1 hour, with 3 upgrades
Level 3 – Take and hold a Keep for 1 hour, with 3 upgrades
Level 4 – Take and hold a Castle for 1 hour, with 3 upgrades

It would be a good way for WvWers to get Guild Commendations, and would lessen the pressure on Anet to put “Ascended gear for Badges” vendors in WvW ASAP, as guilded WvWers could buy their Ascended gear through both Badges and Commendations at the same time. As it is now, many WvW guilds rarely or never run Guild Missions, because they spend all of their influence on WvW buffs.

and @ Okuza: the thing is , the whole server population would move really fast and scatter on ALL servers. all the low tier servers would be filled up and suddenly able to keep up with the higher bracket server of the fact , that Players are greedy for that reward. If you cant beat the system of “winning team joiners for trololol steamrolling PvD in top tiers” , create a new one , where everyone wants to keep a keep

I haven’t played for a while…so I might be misinformed.

Can a single guild own multiple keeps?

Your idea makes sense, and is essentially how I thought the game was going to play out early on.

To expand on it….it would make sense to segregate small and large guilds by changing the reward on whatever keep is currently owned.

Small cap keeps can only be captured and occupied by small cap guilds.
Mid / Large work the same way.

Depending on the size, it would cost more to upgrade/maintain, but the reward would be increased. In addition, depending on ‘connected’ keeps, the reward would increase still. <- This means, the more keeps your realm occupies the more reward you get.

What this does is further magnify your idea of getting people to defend/conquer.

Large guilds would stay occupied with taking larger keeps. However, they would benefit most by leaving the keep and helping smaller guilds. However, by doing so, they leave their keep undefended.

Imagine for a second that A large guild owns a keep, everything’s quiet so they decide to help the smaller guild take a small keep. Half way through, their keep suddenly comes under attack, and they bail, leaving you to finish the last half by yourself, or go help.
