First of all, I have a legendary rifle in my hand, it looks OK, but months of hard work just for a skin makes me feel disappointed . Even some exotic rifles under 10g look better than it.

Legendary weapons need to be more than a skin (or the annoying sound like the one my legendary rifle has). They need to be useful and give the players a little something extra even if not through better stats. I don’t play WoW but I know that there is a legendary bow that needs no arrows, that is very useful.

So, how about adding a feature allowing legendary weapons to switch stats when not in combat, the stats combinations including all the combinations of existing exotic weapons of the same type?

I present a photoshop example below.

Is it OP? Obviously not. Legendary weapons still have the same stats as any exotic weapon but we can choose any set of stats that fits our gameplay/gear combination.

Your ideas can add value to mine so please reply, all feedback is welcome.

I support this idea. A legendary weapon needs to have some attributes and not just a good looking skin. So yeah, being able to switch the stats and not transmute the legendary to an exotic weapon is a neat idea. OP ? Not at all. Having to spend more than 300g on that ( or a lot of time ), you would expect of getting some additions and not just a cool skin. It might be a good idea to keep players from leaving the game.

I am against this. If you are making a legendary weapon, it should only be because you like the skin on it, not because it grants you additional stats/ advantages over normal weapons. Doing so would move legendaries into a tier higher than exotics, causing a gear treadmill that will never end if the trend of added “benefits” for higher tier weapons keeps going.

You feel disappointed for doing a quest for an item that has been known as “Only a skin” since it was first talked about? I mean honestly they have never said the Legendary weapons were any better than exotics and the whole quest was 100% for the skin. So how can you feel disappointed? you knew exactly what you were doing. And no they dont need to be changed at all…the only thing that needs to change IMO is to get rid of the RNG factor in getting them

that feature will provide no advantages at all, since you can have 5 exotic weapons each with different stats, in your backpack and switch them out of combat…
i thikn 5 weapons costs a little less than a legendary.
To be able to change stats could be a nice feature.

I was thinking:

#A unique Sigil proc that can’t be found anywhere else. They don’t have to be better or worse than normal Sigil procs, just something that suits the weapon.

Can you show me any Anet quote saying that these are anything more than exotics with fancy skins? No? then that is what they are…exotics with fancy skins so if you can change the stats on them then you should be able to change the stats on ALL exotics because (once again) they are nothing more than an exotic with a special skin, thats it! that is the be all and end all of what they are, nothing more and nothing less.

As someone farming for 2 legendaries (dual pistols), I do NOT support this idea. This would be a horrible precedent towards a gear treadmill in a game series that has always avoided it and used that as one of its primary selling points.

I would hate to see where the game would go next.

Ok, I will state for the last time why I support the idea. The big plus here is that it might encourage more players to go for it. ( Of course this needs to be thought to see if the odds are in favor ) Oh and by the way, more players = more money for ANet = maybe more content, server improvements and a lot more …

I know what ANet first stated. I’m no farmer myself so I liked the idea at first. Being able to casually play the game and still enjoy all of its content was the main selling point for me. @Sevens you’re just telling me what they said and you don’t even try to tell me why this idea is wrong. There’s always room for improvement, things change.
Why having this switching attribute would transform the game into a gear treadmill ? I fail to see that, but maybe it’s just me. You will not become the God Almighty by introducing this feature, you’ll still be an ordinary player with a Legendary weapon. This feature will just bring convenience, as I stated before and I feel the need to repeat myself: you can have 5 exotics in your backpack and switch between them whenever you need. Oh, but wait ! That’s exactly what the legendary will be – 5 exotics into 1 weapon, is that a game breaking mechanic I ask you ?
Why in the world I have to transmute the legendary to get what stats I want and still carrying that amazing skin ? That is just stupid.
Oh, and it’s still encouraging the farm for other legendary because … you know, they have different amazing skins !
I can see only pro’s here, but please feel free to prove me wrong, maybe I’m not seeing the big picture.

P.S. Why would you feel the urge to quit the game if this feature doesn’t change ANet’s philosophy ?

In Guild Wars, you don’t need to grind to get top tier items… That was the way it was initially designed and I hope it will still be like this in the times to come! In GW1, people payed more for skins… In GW2, it should be the same! Skill makes the difference!
If you like the way WoW was… Well, you can always go back and play those kind of games! I find them profoundly unfair. I don’t have a lifetime to spend in front of a computer game and I think that I shouldn’t be discriminated because of that!
Bottom line… Skins and rarity should be the ONLY reason why they are so expensive! Period…

You knew from the start that they were only skins and no stats. It needs to keep it that way. Those of us who have very little play time should not be penalised because we will never be able to get one.

But I’m not dissapointed with the legendary. I’m trying to support this idea because I see it as a solution to keep players playing the game. I know that this idea might never be implemented and I’m still going to obtain a Legendary one day. It might not be soon but it’s on my to-do list.
Look, it’s still the same skin, it has the same rarity. Ok, I will accept the fact that this suggestion is going down ( still not convinced ). But, at least why not give the option to get what stats we want on the Legendary in the first place by putting the items in different orders in the Mystic Forge ?
Oh and for the record. I hate WoW for what it is, for the long, unnecesary farming it brings.
What you don’t see people is that this doesn’t affect the game at all ! It’s the same as switching your weapons out of combat.
While this argument is nowhere near constructive I will be dropping it.
Have fun farming for your legendaries guys !

I disagree to this, you all know what legendary does before starting it, you farm it for the skin and you farm it coz you wanted. Probably in next few months more and more ppl will make legendary, and start complaining about it after they have it, even as we speack they know very well this. And more and more posts like this will pop up.

I hope arena dont gives in and actualy change this just to shut you up, because you know what will happend? Soon as they put a new skill or stats instantly the first post with “what the kitten is this kitten skill” and here we go again… complaining.

It’s proposed as the same stats as any other Exotic. What is really being added here is the ability to save a few bag slots by having one Legendary and not X Exotics. I like the idea, but feel it wasted overall. Anyone swapping stats (build) would be swapping out armor/accessories and even resetting Traits too, right? Sounds like a trip to town/bank anyway.

I do think they could add more to Legendaries though. Just more cosmetic things. A weapon specific title? Dye/effect unlock to make armor look similar? Emotes? Lots of possibilities.

God forbid guys we add ANYTHING to any item other then just skin. I mean seriously, you GW fanboys are such crybabies. Guy is not asking for a more powerful weapon, just something MORE to a weapon that makes it more attractive.

Anytime i read someone against ideas like this, the only thing i read is this “someone who is to carebear, dont have time, dont have the drive to ever get such item, and so will do what they can to prevent such item to become even better (not more powerful), just better, because they personally, will never attain one”

And btw i agree on OP. If not that idea, perhaps something else that will give legendaries more attractiveness to attain.

P.S. As long as such item does not make you more powerful then your precious exotics, then any arguement you have against is mute.

I don’t think anyone would mind if it in fact does not have higher stats. That seems to be the only real argument, and I think it’s very valid just because it will be a very slippery slope toward “selling power”.

I think one thing they could do is custom animation/spell effects/cool graphical procs. I’m not sure if the current system will support those, but it would be a nice touch.

I think what would be great is a legendary for each stat set (Carrion, berserker, cleric, knight, rampager, etc.) for each weapon type.

Atm, you pretty much should just build your build around your legendary rather than the reverse.

Perfect idea imo. Gives the people who have it something extra, without giving the weapon any extra power.

The people against it are probably just selfish and because they aren’t going for a legendary they want it to suck as much as possible, therefore they are against any new things for legendaries.

It’s a perfect idea. Why? Two reasons: 1) The game changes in the way of nerfs and buffs. What works now may not on the 15th so you want to change your spec. Now your Legendary doesn’t fit your spec at all 2) You want to just change your play style and spec differently. Same as 1, now your Legendary is out of spec and doesn’t support your play style.

Sadly, like the rest of this game, everything just becomes same ol same ol once you get 80’s and exotics. Everything else is window dressing and this one window dressing is massively expensive in time/money and the luck of the draw.

Legendaries are a vanity item. It has been clearly known that they were a vanity item. As such it is perfectly justifiable that they are very difficult to get and not viable for the average or casual player.

By adding abilities they become a new tier that gives advantages to those who can afford to spend the money or time sink to get them. We don’t need another MMO that is an endless gear grinding time sink.

You can already do what is proposed in the original post by applying the skin to another weapon with the desired stats….

But, really, a legendary weapon in GW2 was billed as being a cool looking thing and nothing more so that’s how it should remain.

I think they should add in an in between weapon that have class only effects on them. Now they should not be easy to get but still something that is a non gold cost more of a long quest line for your class.

So switching between stats that are already available for the same type of weapons (crafting stats I assume since those are the “default ones”) of similar level exotics.

Would be no different than using trans stones to transfer stats or switching weapons before a fight…

If its done like this it would simply be a “convenience” thing not unlike the spirit of Anets rewards. I like it.

Again as long as its a switch between already available in game stats combinations, I think its a nice incentive for the hard work.

Cancer is also a Zodiac sign.

plus, if you have the money for a legendary, you can easily drop a gold in a random exotic with the stats you want. it’s just convenience rewarding effort.

now THAT is not going to happen. the idea is that once you reach 80, getting top-rated gear doesn’t take long, so you can focus on getting what you think looks awesome, and in doing stuff you enjoy rather than farming for better stats.

I don’t understand for those who’re against it. I understand if they don’t want gear progression/grind. But if they’re even against something insignificant to them like Blake’s suggestion? Hmm.. something’s wrong here.

It really shows. It revealed that the ones who’re against his idea are examples of people who wants to be “equal level” with players who made efforts and dedicated more time. They grief easily if people achieve higher than them due to dedications. Socialism at it’s work. That’s why gw2 is like a hut for them in the world of mmorpgs. =/

GW2 is based around player skill. The gear “grind” has a difinitive end to it as opposed to a never ending one.
Sounds like this is not the game for you.
There are plenty of other MMO’s out there that have gear grinds to them (WoW, Rift, LotRO, etc) Sounds like one of those would have more appeal for you.
