I beg you, don't increase the level cap
I’m not a Vet MMO player. Have played SWTOR for a while, which is very very boring. Been playing GW2 for 633 hours now. Have 2 Chars, one at 80, other at 40 may be. On my lvl 80 Char, I have equipped all the top tier gears. Full exotics, with Ascended spineguard and Rings. Now what am I supposed to do..nothing really. Get Twilight? not worth the grind ! Of course, it’s been just 4 months roughly, the game’s age. So talking about increasing level cap is kinda irrelevant now. But of course, I wanna see increase in Caps with the next expansion. Which won’t be here before 2014 I guess. Anet will be diversifying their Ascended gear progression throughout the whole next year. I’m liking it, specially after acquiring a ring doing 10 dailies. I want new zones, new events, new HEARTS, dungeons etc ! Being said that, don’t want it immediately, but in the future. But for now, the end game is kinda dull, except for WvW, which I enjoy alot. Improve these, specially the sPvP. Make the lvl 80 zones more lively, better loots etc.

What I hate about increasing the level cap: one day the level cap is increased to 90. Player goes outside the new town, kills a rabbit and gets a white sword that is better than a Legendary he spent months on making.
Unless they introduce only Ascended/Legendary gear with the level cap increase, or even better, allow only an upgrade on our existing gear instead of getting new, maybe adding a fourth stat to them, then any other option has a big no from me.
Well its simple. This is called “power creep” and is imho the worst part of all MMORPG’s.
Initially I was hyped by GW2, but now I find more and more they destroyed with the second installment (from the features I enjoyed in 1st):
- interface customizability (cant play normally at all because of this!)
- servers/worlds (can’t play with all my friends because of this), and the funny part is game doesn’t need em! we have instances anyway…
- skill customizability is less than it was in some areas (number of skills)
- character customizability is less (only 1 class)
There is a few more I can’t remember right now and the last 2 I can live with since other stuff complements/replaces that. But mentioning that they in fact will resort to power creep in due time has me considering. And yea, I am a discerning customer. I do delete games. I do a lot of negative/positive propaganda regarding games I feel strongly about. I might sway 10 people or 20. Also I believe I speak for a minority here, but it is a vocal minority =) Power creep = bad.
@maddoctor – They did say that Legendaries will always scale to BiS, so I assume that means they will be upgraded to max level. To everyone else (who are not obscenely lucky or rich)… tough luck!

I hope so!
Agreed, but they will do so anyway. Just like how, 90% of the players didn’t want a gear treadmill and they still added it.

Even far in the future, an increased cap still will be not friendly to casuals for the reasons mentioned elsewhere in the thread. Are you sure what you want is a higher level cap, and not just a fun reason to continue playing your awesome character? It seems when people hear “increased level cap” they assume that that is the only way to continue progression. That’s certainly not the case, and it seems to me simply adding new content is what people want the most, not a higher number on their XP bar.

i don’t care about levels but i absolutely need/want more trait points because 70 isn’t flexible at all for my class.
I mentioned a while back before launch on their wiki page for suggestions that level cap should be 100 representing 100% complete. I never understood why MMO’s use 80 for completion when 100 is a completion number. A number to stand by. A number to be proud of. SO if they ever decide to increase level cap, it should be 100 IMO reflecting the awesome 100% complete.

100 is certainly a nice round number, but 80 is nice too. It seems as good a spot as any to leave it.

You shouldn’t feel like you can achieve the best of both worlds with your profession. Thats the point of traits, being unique. They add little differences but it shapes your character a lot. If they increased trait points then you would just see glass cannons turn into rocks with dual rocket launchers and infinite mobility, and no one wants to fight that :/
break. I feel like they should be back by now..”
Well, like I mentioned, there were a few things from the Chris Whiteside AMA that sent out alarms to me. For example, in this post
Infusions will become the vertical progression…accessible through a wide variety of different player activities…
Should we add new player levels to the game then new items within the current rarities with a shallow power increase would be viable, however we would look at doing a new system rather than defaulting to this initially.
That implies that right now they’re not ruling it out, and that it is on the table, even if it’s not happening right this instant. As an avid player, I want to help take it off of the table. We can’t just assume that it won’t happen, because if we do it just might. It’s worth speaking up about if we feel passionately about it, which I certainly do.
I don’t want an increase in the level cap!
I wouldn’t be completely adverse to maybe 5-10 extra trait points or something like that, which is why Ascension seemed like a better alternative. You could go through the process of “advancing” your character and meeting the new standard power level, without needing to change all of your gear.
