I would really love to be able to create a new account and transfer my wife’s character over to it so that we can play together without one of us having to start all over. Does anyone else want this too?

That’s a possibility but they can do that now by selling accounts. Maybe they could link the copies of the game through your anet account or something to prevent that.

“WTS level 80 warrior with full legendary set”.

Let’s not increase the chances of that happen…

Why would anyone want or need more than one account, anyways?
If you want more character slots, you get those.
If it’s someone else’s account that they gave to you,, well, they can’t do that, it goes against the rules.

Looks like it’s ok to share characters between the members of the same family while they live in the same house, but this situation is something that should have been predicted by you.

Starting a new account with a new character, if it’s just on, should not be that hard. And you should be able to craft for her some stuff and give her a little money within the transfer limits to help her out.

The User agreement says only one person will have access to an account. As a result this situation does not really have an honest uses only to get around the user agreement. Apart from as a family and surely the limitations of that are apparent before starting.

Well there is the but I want to play together so we need two copies arguement. It doesn’t have to be you stopping her playing!

I don’t know why you can’t communicate this to your wife without causing some sort of implied conflict. If that’s the case, it sounds like your problem extends a bit further than GW2.

Buy a second account and offer to start a new character with your wife. The game is only 2 months old and you can have your new characters levelled pretty quickly.

Also, as someone has already pointed out, anyone buying the game should be aware of the rules. You’re not supposed to have multiple people playing on the same account, so the problem the OP describes is one he created.

I’m pretty sure the prospect of providing additional ways for hackers to profit is not something anyone (but the hackers) wants to see implemented.

I would like character transfers between accounts too!

Giving hackers more incentive to hack. Im not saying that account selling isnt happening, but allowing character transfers would allow them to sell multiple lv 80s from a single account

I would like to transfer chars to a separate account just to have access to more guilds. And if AN implemented a per-char password, we would not have to worry about hackers, only stupid users.

Hey i recently brought a second copy of GW2 for my friends that i live with as they all play on my account and really enjoy the game. although i will admit i am breaking the rules, the fact i did buy a second copy i would hope gives me the right to, if i didn’t allow my friends to play it because of the ‘rules’ we wouldn’t have brought a second copy so in turn less support for a great company right. Anyway if it was possible to link two accounts together under one password and through that the possibility to transfer our chars around then it would of made the second purchase or that more worth it. Right now we are in a position that if two or more friends decide to start a fresh char on the new account, it makes it impossible for them to play together unless they make another new char, things get very tangled and impossible. i’m sure this has been a worthy debate during the development stage of this game but i would merely ask that someone takes this problem into account. even if by some this problem is seen as unjustified it is still a problem nonetheless. anyway thanks for the great game and keep up the good work : )

Timba, why not let your wife keep this account and get your own and just start over? That way you can play together AND no fight with the wife?

Well lets be honest it’s impossible to counter and enforce that rule (unless some idiot admits to it : P), i believe it should be embraced, it’s a great marketing tool. I don’t think i should be punished for this either, it would be to easy to tar me and my friends with the same brush as the genuine cyber thieves . But i like to think the dev’s can tell the difference between paying customers and the people who are actually stealing and doing long term harm such as hacking or account selling etc.

Anyway the point is there are going to be these people either way so adding alittle more convenience (though convenience is all over the game) it won’t be exploited more than the game already is in it’s current state.
