I concur. Taking an in game sample would be more accurate than taking a sample from the forum.
In the forum you see people that “have” things to say about the game. In the game you only have players who “like” the game as it is. An in-game poll won’t be so elaborate as the forum is.
Even in working places, there are few employes arguing with the bosses about plans for the future, while the rest just do their job.
I agree with this Arena Net, I think you should take suggestions from here “The Forums” and then the ones that have a lot of foot traffic ( not the ones that get spammed and re-posted a million times ) and then put that in the game as a questioner. Say every month, Like the question box in beta. Every month if you participate you get two random Boosters.
Lets face it most of the threads on Nerf this or that are a very very small player base, if you were to bring that into game and let the program run for a day or two you may not get 100% of the players but you would be getting I would say at least 75% of them, which is better than 7% on the forums.
To be honest I would complete the questioner regardless of weather you gave me booster packs or not, personally I would see it from a player stand point that, " Hey man this company actually does care what the players have to say" In turn I would ( I Would ) spend a lot more money on the gem store, figuring that if they listen to me might as well show some support.
Plus Arena Net think of it this way
NO OTHER GAMING COMPANY OUT THERE HAS DONE THIS. THIS WOULD JUST BE ANOTHER GROUND BREAKING IDEAL THAT YOU DO AND NO ONE ELSE DOES

Sort of however there are tons of people who have a lot of thoughts about the game but who have never considered / are not comfortable with forums and it has been my experience that the larger portion of those who do go to forums are troublemakers / whiners. There is a smaller fraction of people who come to forums who actually want the game to improve and not just for them but for everyone however these people comprise a small portion of the actual game populace who have good ideas / dialogue for the game . . . . . .

Why doesn’t it ever occur to some people, like you, that a game-company is smart enough to recognize that their forums are only a small % of their player-base?
The forums are only one source of data, but you talk as if they’re relying solely on it, which is without a doubt ludicrous.

This is the only forum I have been willing to use and although it is not as bad as I expected, I just hate forums. Some of the information and ideas here have been a great read, but it only represents a small portion of the player base. I think it would be a good idea if Anet set up polls that pop up in game when players are in cities or other safe places, with simple questions and a small reward for answering, and a easy no thank you/ please remove me from this feature option. It would be a pretty easy way to get a large amount of feed back from more players, including those who don’t frequent the forums to improve the game.
They had this in BWE’s. Except no reward, which is the way it should be. You don’t want people spamming random opinions just to get a few silver pieces.
And it needs some captcha anyways, so only people with opinions on the matter bother answering.
People who can’t tend to call the opponent troll, scream something utterly incomprehensible
and finally result to personal insults.
The problems is surveys can also be biased, and you may not get to voice your real opinion on something. Or you may not get to voice a unique idea. The Southsun patch survey did not even address anything I was concerned about. I voiced my opinion in the blank spots that had nothing to do with the actual questions. It was rather upsetting. It wouldn’t be a bad idea if it could be done unbiased, but I don’t see that happening.
