Q:

Within the first month of playing the game I decided to take the 3 gold I had and use 1 on a Guild outfit (heavy for my guardian) to show my “pride”.

I enjoyed it for a while and eventually the armor was replaced (wasn’t even 60 yet). However I accidentally sold the armor to the vendor as it just looked like all the other stuff I was selling. By then the buyback option was gone. My bad, I should pay more attention and hopefully my safe bags will prevent that in the future.

Recently I have been playing Ranger and have started to get a sense finally after hitting 56 (last 7 levels from leveling huntsman and leathercraft) of what weapons and potentially what combat style to focus on. I ended up crafting my own weapons for the first time (I’d never gotten a craft skill up high enough to craft for my own level before!). I had all Krytan before and the new look was… well the plain one. Luckily I have been hording transmute stones and knew that even though new sigils would be coming up I wouldn’t be affording them right away! So I thought I might splurge on Guild axes, and bows. All weapons I knew I’d be using. Well after re-outfitting my character I was a bit broke on her so I went to my guardian and borrowed some cash. I was right next to the guild vendor so I drop 1 gold on 2 axes, and two bows. I then put them in the bank and notice… soulbound. I sigh thinking “not again” and proceed to put 1 gold into my bank so I could do the same thing on my ranger.

In essence all the soulbinding for that item did was hurt me. I would understand if it was karma purchased, I would even understand that you don’t want items that someone used the skin on to not be soulbound. But the skins before application might as well be account bound right? The character they are bound to currently can’t use either of them. Nor could he use a medium or light armor if he purchased it for another, but he could easily swap the money over for them to do it.

I guess it is a little more depressing as both times I have done this I have thought “well it is expensive but it would make me happy and that is why I am playing the game”.

So I would like to encourage a laxing of soulbinding in that regard.

On a side note I hear it is possible to get soulbound skins onto other characters through a work around. Is this possible for this item? Also would this be considered an exploit that is not allowed to be used?

A:

So if I give my soulbound bows and axes to my guardian, have him skin them, then send them back they will be soulbound to the ranger?

No, you can’t transfer soulbound items. You have to put them in the bank, log on to your guardian and use a transmutation stone (items still in the bank).

You can transmute the soulbound items to other characters
edit: whoops answered too soon

You can transmute all back pieces to all back pieces
You can transmute all weapons of 1 type (mace) to all weapons of the same type (a different mace)
You can transmute all armor of the same weight (heavy) to all armor of the same weight (heavy again)

It worked, thanks! Weirdly the weapons said they were soulbound on my ranger but my guardian could put them in his inventory. However there were items bound to my guardian that my ranger couldn’t do that to. But I went ahead and did it like you said to anyway to be sure.
