I want to enjoy what is already there :)
I’m not apposed to the idea however:
So far I have not seen or heard of an MMO with fishing that it has been implemented well enough to make it interesting. There is nothing stopping people from enjoying the scenery of the game now except themselves if they are not taking the time to enjoy it. So there is no real need to add a system to the game in order to get people to stop and enjoy the scenery if they aren’t already choosing to stop and enjoy it.
However there is no reason that they couldn’t add something like this to the game. I’ll use lord of the rings online as an example. Fishing was added to the game at some point well into the game being out. At first it was just something to do for those that liked the idea of virtual fishing. They had housing trophies you could get from some of the fish you caught and fishing related titles you could display. Later on it became a part of seasonal festival activities which made a bit more appealing to more people and rewarded them with the festival stuff they wanted to get.
Personally though I’m not interested in being able to fish in the game. The only reason I do in lord of the rings online is for the festival(s) that include it as a way to get the festival stuff you want. But if there were an even faster way to get the stuff then I would bother with fishing any more. Because to me if I’m going to do it then it must offer me something worth obtaining from it otherwise I’d gather my friends of family and head off to a lake somewhere and fish in real life and enjoy that scenery and real life.
It all depends on how you grow up really. I was brought up in a rather large immediate family and we didn’t have a car big enough so I’ve never been fishing nor most family orientated things. Probably why I like MMO’s so much but I would like the option to do something else in Guild Wars which represent what I am protecting by fighting the elder dragons, do you see my point?
i sure do and it makes sense. We all want the world to feel as real as possible so why not add activities such as you request. I hope that my post supports your request by helping them see what is out there with the current games and if they decide to add fishing to GW2 that they make it the best MMO fishing experience out there. And who knows perhaps it will be the first MMO out there with fishing that would actually make me interested in the idea of fishing in an MMO.
