The current sPVP took a COD-like FPS game mode(where players freely join and leave, and you might get hit from nowhere) when it has the fighting.dueling mechanics of dota or RTS games(to kill or be killed is not based on a fps-like reflex of nerve in half a second so both wont feel as rewarding as in a fps game, but on your knowlege of your opponents and the skills they used and how you react, whether to engage or not, etc), making it a mess and needs despartely a big change of mechanics,,
when I’m in game and see a player, I need to know if he is a thief or elementist and what to expect from him instantly i saw him 100 meters away, whehter to engage or not,, and i need to bare in mind all the time how many opponents there are and where they are all the time so i can make strategy choices rather than charging in all the time going mindlessly anywhere towards uncaptured points on the map , whether i bump into a whole group of enemies and to be killed in halfasecond or meet a low health player and get one easy free kill for me is just all out of luck(which is exactly what happens now).
I’ll divide my post into 2 parts, the first part i’ll talk about things that arenanet can do instantly or by just making a little tweak but as a result will bring a big impovement to the spvp
so heres the 1st part:
the sPVP now is just like a random place where you fight random numbers of players with random skills that you have no idea what to expect and how well you’ll perform and what strategy choice to make, whether to go where or pull back or to kill someone no matter the cost or just kite around, etc making the whole game boring and nonrewarding
so in this part the goal of my suggestions are to make it possible that when you’re in a sPVP fight, youll know what to expect from your opponents , so you will make strategy choices like where to go or pull back, etc and it will be rewarding that by making these choice wisely you’ll outplay your oppoents and eventually lead your team to victory
1)there should be an icon constantly visble above everyone’s head that can be easily seen by everyone taht tells the prefession of that player, exp elementist should alwasy have that little fire icon above their heads, so when you see a player u instantly know that this is an elementist, not a ranger or necro or even fighter asura(yeah, this is the compromise and compensation made for the freedom of outfit,suits,clothes)
2)every profession should be limited to only one weapon what is locked when youre out of the base the first time of the whole game, so when you see a thief , you should know that his is melee, no matter he’s conditon dmg or crit dmg build, you;ll have your strategy or choice to make
3)there should be a mode(and it should be the main mode(when new players join a game, theyll be playing this mode by default)), that there’s a limit to the players in one game to a up limit of about 8 -14, which means in every game it’s always a 4v4 or at most 7v7, so that everytime you go somewhere, youll know youre making a strategy move like backdooring or lure them somewhere while you do some thing else unexpected, making the whole game much more competive rather than depend all on luck
4)enemy will alwasy be showed as red, no matter on the scoreboeard or the hints at rightcorner who killed who, or on the map where your base is and where the enemies are, making it much much much much much more clear (i dont know how such a simple things but can make such a huge difference like this hasnt been done already)
2nd part:
this part is based on that the game itself is a sucess, competitive and fun and attracts lots of players rahter than the trash state that it now enjoys,
it also requires more time and money to implement,,,
1)there should be a matching mode where players are matched with players of their similar levels/win rate/K,D,A rate/play time/etc and the game starts when the match is completed or the player is matched to another game that lacks player due to afk or early quit
2)there should be group matching or goup join so that when you can join one game with your friends as teammates automatically in one game
3)there’s a big difference whether you lose or win in the previously mentioned matched games
4)simpler and clear maps where player would know instantly how many paths can lead to one important point, and by blocking what point their opponents wont be able to go to what point, which is constantly updated and tweaked according to win/lose rate data and player feedback
5)when a player creates a game, he can choose between “competitive mode” and “casual”(like nowadays sPVP)
