My suggestion is to make Weapons/Armors more dynamic and valuable with the following system.
[UPGRADE SYSTEM]
Each item starts at +0 value.
You can take your item to the Mystic Forge to attempt an upgrade.
Each upgrade has a 50% chance to go +1 or to destroy the item.
Each 1/2/+3/ etc… slightly increases random stats on the weapon by a very small margin.
Those who are willing to gamble and get +10 or more will have a very valuable weapon.
This weapon should net a slight benefit but not be ridiculous unbalanced stats.
Benefits:
- The items on the trade post will be HUGELY more varied.
- Users can choose now between all items at +X variability with whichever stats they desire.
- Can be used for PVP or PVE
- Players feel a sense of personal achievement and gratification for crafting a really high + upgrade weapon
- REPLAYABILITY… Players will want to keep coming back to play because of their weapon that they feel a person bond with because THEY UPGRADED IT
I can go on and on about how great of an idea this would be for guildwars 2.
It just needs to be implemented correctly to prevent dupes/bugs/exploits/ overpowered stats
The incremental 1/2/+3 should only give a minor upgrade to some of the status on the weapon
Just imagine someone having a Legendary sword at +0 and having the balls to go +1/ +2 / +3 each time with a 50% chance of the Legendary sword being destroyed.
A legendary item at +3 or +5, imagine how valuable that item would be.
The person could sell it on the Trade Post to net huge profit for their guild, or whatever they want
