Why Hard Mode?

  • To address the complaints of players who reach level 80 and complain that they have nothing else to do (aside from perhaps acquiring grinding or playing the market for legendaries)
  • To provide additional challenge to players who have easily completed story modes and normal maps and do not believe normal mode to be challenging enough.
  • To help speed up the process of collecting good materials for players who have already completed Lvl.80 in normal modes.
  • Due to the increased difficulty of Hard Mode, it would encourage adventurers to form parties
  • Players can make better use of their crafting professions to craft items appropriate to their levels since many Lvl.80’s (normal mode) will have maxed or leveled up their crafting professions decently by the time they enter HM, and will have to worry less about the acquisition of materials or keeping their crafting on par with their regular level.

How could Hard Mode be Implemented?

  • By bringing a few additional servers online that are duplicates of the existing world (minus cities) but with hard mode enabled.
  • HM will use an adaptive number of servers similar to how overflows work.
  • Players in HM start out at Lvl.1 and may retry their stories in Hard Mode
  • Player inventories are swapped out depending on whether the player is in HM or normal mode. The player will use the bank to transfer items between the his inventories if necessary (or alternatively mail himself something).
  • Enemies gain increased stats to start out with, mostly oriented towards offensive stats.
  • Loot tables are elevated by one level or player otherwise gains a bonus to Magic Find, meaning that the player has a greater chance of acquiring rarer drops and will very rarely acquire whites. This means that farming Orr in HM will mean better drops though you will probably want to do it with a party.
  • Cities will be used to switch between normal mode and hard mode

Easy way to make current content hardmode is to make it that people entering those instances can only use non upgraded basic level gear.

Also everytime they die and respawn at a waypoint they lose all their currently equipped gear, a level, and a skill point. If they have 0 skill points then it untrains their skills and takes it from the remaining pool. This can be avoided if they are revived on the spot.

What? A good idea? No, lets not do that and re-use old content like a smart company. Instead lets pump out new, buggy content every month in hopes it will hook-in some poor, inferior player.

But +1 for your ideas and it should of been in the game a month after launch. I agree for hard mode, this game gets boring fast.
