As someone kittencently rolled a Sylvari explorer character I want to be able to hide the map, the action bar buttons, the objectives panel, and health bars. In place of the health bars I want other screen health indicators such as red border/sound cues. My reasoning for this is that lack of all these UI elements help me immerse into the game, and as an explorer I can’t mindlessly rely on my map and all the icons on it to help me navigate: I must work out my position and my destination using my memory and sense of direction.

I think this would be neat for people like me and roleplayers or whatever, and would also help people who wanted to customize their UI. Surely hiding interface elements can’t be a hard thing to implement?

Thanks, Boxy

The entire interface can be hidden (look under your key mapping options) and I am actively playing with it this way. The main issue that I have is that there is far less of a visual damage cue. You get decent audio cues like the character reacting to states, nearing death, etc. but the game doesn’t have enough blood to show enemy damage. I would personally prefer a series of progressive animations that show a deteriorating state in my opponent. My character experiences these animations with limping, stumbling, dazing but the mob I am fighting basically acts the same no matter what.

As far as hiding or unhiding the UI, I am very much in favor of being able to selectively display all UI elements. I am also in favor of dialogues that literally require visibility popping up automatically when called by the player’s action rather than forcing me to unhide the entire UI.

Being able to choose what to display is really needed.

The immersion is way better when you desactivate the whole UI. You made such a beautiful game. It would be sad if you don’t do everything you can to let the players experience every piece of this world.

But it’s kinda hard, because you can’t tell when you are gonna die.

So, what I want, and i dont’ think i’m alone, is to be able to disable display of certain elements like the minimap, the chat, the skillbar and the messages at the top right corner, by configuration.

Please !!! And as the others said, it must be doable, since we can disable the whole UI already.

You can switch off the majority of the icons already (there’s a little eye in the bottom left of the World Map) aside from waypoints (for obvious reasons).

But yeah, a minimalist UI would be nice.
