GW2 is a very graphic intensive game.. and many dragon events can bring even the strongest of machines down. The problem is because guild wars 2 uses many many effects, ranging from high polygon models, to shader effects, to high resolution textures, there are a ton of possibilities as to why frame rates tumble.
As much as most of the graphic effects can be toggled without a reload, it is not an effective testing platform to tweak one setting and spend 15 minutes to hours if none are scheduled, for a boss event to test out your changed setting. Instead I ask that guild wars 2 implement a toggleable debug window that shows things like amount of texture memory requested (to determine how much time you are spending with an overflowing texture buffer), polygons displayed, and maybe other things like physics and sound processing (and if its being done on hardware or using the cpu). Just things that would be useful in figuring out where a system is being bottlenecked.
