Combat needs to be sharpened in terms of responsiveness of controls. Too many abilities lock up or delay further input in inappropriate ways. For a game that supposedly emphasizes skill, combat often times feels clunky, slow, and at times, just plain unresponsive.

Can you be more specific? I have no clue what your talking about!

Hundred Blades Warrior GS – I can’t immediately dodge out of it. I have to move first, then dodge which doesn’t make any sense since I can use GS 3 ability to cancel HB prematurely to whirlwind out for a quick dodge, yet I can’t do this with actual dodge?

Churning Earth for Ele does the same thing to an extent.

Certain abilities seem to sometimes have extended cast times when trying to use it immediately after attacks sometimes. I’ve noticed this the most with Shield Block for warrior where my block will not activate immediately after I cast it. I know it has a .5s cast time but I’ve had instances of it being longer (about 1-1.5s)

I especially notice some extended cast times and lack of responsiveness in controls on classes that require alot of quick input delay like d/d ele. It makes comboing and ability usage very clunky and slow at times. I especially notice this when trying to cast auras sometimes while casting other spells.

sound more like a latency issue if you ask me

Definitely not a latency issue. I consider myself pretty well reserved in not jumping to conclusions on control responsiveness and I’ve been more than patient with other functionality issues involved in combat such as the dodge roll bug and picking up bundles.

It’s not a latency.

All the time in s/tpvp we need to press our key binds more than one time (usually 2-3 times) to activate a skill. That’s sucks if you ask me.

I have never had a delayed response, not saying it is but it really does sound like a latency issue.

The only time I can not instantly dodge out of HB is because I was bull charged before hand, which stuns me. That may be what your experiencing, not sure if it is but that is a possible solution.

As far as havign to hit a key multiple times before your skill goes off like I said before not saying you are having latency issues but that sounds like latency issues.

Every game has it although in GW2 unlike is say WoW the main part and a good part of the game is stored player side not server side. Therefore you can have a lot more problems when it comes to responses times in skills, just on the basis on your CPU. Again I am not saying your CPU is crap or it is your fault just throwing out reasons why one would experience these problems you have detailed.

As I said before I have watched countless reviews online from GW2 review to GW2 vs WoW. I don’t know the exact number of videos I have watched so I will just say I watched 100 videos. Now your not the only one that say’s this, I would say out of 100 at least 17 to 25 of the videos makes this same comment.

Now something else some people should take into consideration is this, and I apologies if I use wow as the comparison here.

  • World of Warcraft
Movement is un-realistic, meaning you can move any direction at anytime with no pause or breaks and no slow down. There is no defining point between movement breaks. Okay so not that this is a bad thing, because most Games do this but it is un-realistic. If your running at full speed forward 99.9999% of people can not stop on a dime and go backwards at full speed. Just as if your strafing to your right and you want to go Left instead there is not dime stop and stay on your same momentum and head left.
  • Guild Wars2
We have a more realistic movement base, meaning that when you are running forward and attempt to go into a different direction your character must halt the forward momentum he has and redistribute the momentum to the new direction. ( this is seen the best in the Asura left to right movements ). Now I can not say this with any definitive certainty but I believe this is done on purpose by Arena Net, why? Well we also have evades and rolls and jump backs to have the what I say is the Infinate momentum movement aspect it takes away form the delicate use of those abilities.

So I think a lot of people saying the movement and controls feel clunky is experiencing that issue that other MMO’s have had the never break momentum movement aspect and now GW2 has the actual momentum laws in place I guess.

Again just my view on it not saying I am right, just a thought.

Not complaining about movement issues. I’m fine with those. As I said, it’s definitely not latency, when I am having connectivity issues I can discern that from actual lack of responsiveness and slow controls.

There are very staple things that are consistent such as the Hundred Blades issue I mentioned where you cannot dodge out of it. You can move and cast other abilities, but you can’t dodge, same with churning earth for ele. These are simple and quick changes that can be implemented to improve responsiveness and control. Why this isn’t implemented is confusing to me.

Then there are issues which have caused some debate as being potential latency. I don’t think they are latency issues, it’s a very infrequent problem but I encounter issues where I’ll need to press the same key multiple times for it to work. It’s an intermittent problem so it’s more difficult to track down but it’s there, but as I’ve said, I’m generally pretty patient about not jumping to conclusions on what is potential connectivity issues, but this has been something that has recurred too frequently where my internet is fine, but input response sags.

An example would be of when Im on my d/d ele, I noticed this the other day, all my input was fine, but I was having alot of issues comboing often with “queuing” abilities and they weren’t activating.
