I don’t know about anyone else, but Id love an in game bestiary, one that’s not just handed to you, but a portable tome of knowledge which you’d have to collect and compile yourself through study of the various creatures which inhabit the game. Maybe you’d expand entries by defeating a certain number of the desired monster, or gain special tidbits of information through defeating the more powerful, veteran versions.

Entries could include the creatures in game model which you’d be able to rotate and zoom in on (because I would love to study these incredibly well made models at my own leisure), maybe some concept art, and a little biography.

I reckon explorers, collectors and lore buffs would absolutely eat this up, and it’d add a chock ton of replay value to the game.

But then again, what does everyone else think? Would you like something like this, or just see it as a waste of time?

I always want this in every single game. The last one I played that had it was Blades of Time, although it was a very basic one with a picture and a hint to fight them, it still contained all enemies.

One of the bestiaries I liked the most was Sword of Mana’s Monster Album:

I personally always eat this kind of thing up, and I’d love it in GW2, which just has some really beautiful looking creatures. It sometimes feels a shame that I cant get a proper look at them, as its pretty hard to sit back and admire something when its pulping you into the ground.

I know its only a superfluous thing, but sometimes its these little lovely extras that really bring a game to life for me, and elevate a game from something that’s fun, to something that’s really, really fun.

I believe they explored this idea at a point, giving information on the different creature types, history, fighting style, weaknesses, etc … but it ultimately was canned.

A shame, because I tend to agree, the lore aspect, and therefore the history behind the creatures has always been one of the GW staples.
