Dungeons require absolute perfect communication, and PUGs can’t always just jump into the same Mumble/Vent server to talk. Additionally, with the social nature of PvE DEs and how cooperation based the PvE is, it seems only natural to add a in game voice chat in the radius of about what the /say range is. It would also make coordination in WvWvW much easier, so random PUGs have a chance against well coordinated guilds.

Yet, there is no ingame voice chat. Why?

I suppose it sounds like a great idea but the idea I can hear everyone in my /say range chattering away just seems vile to me. It would ruin the games atmosphere.

Also I suppose it because not everyone wants to voice chat, perhaps it is because of language barriers, or for personal reason (I know I do not speak to strangers in voice, it just does not feel comfortable for me at all.) Those who do want to have the option of outside services.

People in DDO use the in-game voice chat for dungeons, because they can be very complicated in that game. The hardcore players use vent or mumble.

I tried vent here but stopped because I didn’t find it helpful and I had to disable it to RP as it was too distracting.

It then would need additional programming to turn that off, to prevent lapses in maturity resulting in inappropriate phrases and songs blasted to annoy the community (Such as what can happen on say xbox live).

Wasn’t really used in WoW, and I can’t imagine how they’d moderate it. Chat logs are available if those need to be reviewed, but would they record all speech? How much space would that take up?

They don’t monitor voice chat in DDO, that I am aware of and there is an option in the Options to enable/disable hearing/using voice chat. Not to hard to implement.

Even if I can turn it off, it would still have to be moderated like the text chat in the game. Being able to turn off voice chat doesn’t excuse breaking the rules with it, same as text chat.

Maybe they do monitor voice chat in DDO. I have !clue, not being interested in using it in the 1st place. But I am sure that someone who cares more could easily find the answer on http://forums.ddo.com/
