I am personally tired of the fact that a feature like this hasn’t been implemented yet in Guild Wars 2. I am tired of having to pay so much gold for gems that are only getting more expensive everyday to buy a kit that permits you to change your hairstyles. Sure there is an item called the Permanent Self-Style Hair Kit, which is an item with an extremely low chance to drop in Black Lion Chests, but I find it to be an overpriced and very rare way to basically customize our characters the way we want. Its very surprising how a game that permits you to change the color of your armor, or even let you transmute items to attain the appearance of an awesome looking armor to an armor with better stats, doesn’t let you change your hair with an in-game barbershop. I can understand that this is just a complaint about the aesthetics, but I think for role-players or people who love to change their characters appearance often would appreciate a feature like this that is pretty common in most other MMOs. And make it a fair price too in-game, like 10 to 25 silver or something like that. I don’t mind the Perma-hair style Kit as long as its the only portable way to change you hair at anytime. In-game Barbershops should be placed in the Major cities like Divinity’s Reach, Black Citadel, etc. Please ArenaNet, add this when possible.

I agree, that it gets ridiculous having to spend so many gems, especially for people that want to change their look frequently. As much as people hate WoW, they have an in-game barbershop which is really nice, even though it’s very limited, and GW’s customization is much more advanced.

A-net should have one in-game for free, but with a limited set of features that are able to be changed. If someone wants a total makeover, then they could buy the one from the TP. I think it would be a nice balance between.

I too want to say ‘aye’ here. Not only for aesthetics, but also to add more living world to the living world. I know the main purpose for a game is to hack and slice, and get them drops and gold. But there is still (at least one) a populous that also likes to ‘live’ on a fantasy world, and in a sense sees the game world as a ‘simulation’ of a living world, in which to hack and slice…

Currently that simulation part of the living world could be strengthened a lot, and a barber shop (amongst others) would be a welcome addition to the gaming world. In a sense the Hairstyle-kit, is just a lazy way around a needed feature. A feature non the less that could make the actual gaming world much stronger, if it were actually part of the gaming world.

It’s like having a mini-map, or an actual ‘in-game map’, it’s like having a ‘preview’ button on every item. Or a true armour-shop, weapon-shop etc. with ‘fitting’ rooms. And while I know it’s easy to call something lazily done, esp. when there is effort put into it, I personally still think it’s not just lazy, but it’s somewhat of the wrong choice. Especially when/if you see the effort put in to make the gaming world look more alive…

With waypoints, there can hardly be an argument about: “Well I have to travel, all the way to X, to do Y”, and it’s not that there isn’t enough space to carve out a few shops and offer players more interaction, in different ways, with the gaming world.

! And lastly, the barber shop (and others) can actually be a good ‘driver’ for things like the complete make over kits, gemshop weapons and armors, and even stimulating the trade on the BLTH (f/e an armour-shop, where also all armour colours can be previewed, will stimulate the sale of dyes in the BLTH, mainly because knowing what it can look like may convince players to actually go ahead with the specific purchase.

Could this be done in another UI element, sure, but why clutter it more, if you can also realize it within the game, and make it part of the interaction with the actual gaming world?

  • finally, ‘its all permanent content’ supplying all players with more services and in doing so improving the actual game and the world of Tyria.
We are peace, we are war. We are how we treat each other and nothing more…

I often wished that they did have the barber/beauty shop in game for the most basic changes that would require gold but the newer add in designs would require gems, yes you could convert up to gems from gold so that is not really the problem, its the feel….If we have these kinds of shops in game it makes the game feel more alive….

well but there is a way to change haircut, in gem store, You must understand that game with no monthly subscriptions must find a way to earn money for itself. So we have gem shop. And now there are two ways that game can earn money through ingame shop:
- one way is to put items in this shop that give You advantage over other players (weapons/armors with better stats, or items that gice You acces to dungeons or bosses with special loot)
- second way is to put in this shop items that make cosmetic changes for players (such as makeover kits, transmutation stones, skins)

I think its good tha ArenaNet is choosing the second way to earn money
I played a lot of mmo with no monthly subscription and as far as I remember things like that always were in real money shops.

But have you seen the large amount of Gold is required to trade for gems? I’m glad that Anet even considered the option to trade Gold for gems for those who work their butts off to earn it. However, the value of Gems are becoming more expensive, with almost 7 Gold for 100 gems. That seems highly unfair. It still bothers me that despite all the available options for customizing your character, from Dye colors to Transmuting awesome items to get the look and better stats, doesn’t give you an option to change your hair. I know that buying gems with real money helps Anet, but if there are people who change their appearance very often are pretty much obligated to change their hair for 8 or 9 gold(turned to gems). Like I said, I don’t mind the permanent version, cause at least is a portable version that can stay with you anywhere, but they really should implement the barbershop for major cities for our convenience. I can even complain on the dye system, cause I want all colors to be account bound so that all of my characters can use the colors. Please Anet, just those two fixes, the rest is alright to make money off of.

I can only hope that Anet can make this type of feature available by the end of 2014 or 2015.

Surely a hair change for say 1g would be a nice little gold-sink which Anet seem so keen on
