In my opinion, character creation needs improvement
I think i will never be happy with customization being a simmer so i’ll settle for what i have .
Some new options would be pretty awesome, but at the same time, it would make me feel the need to recreate some of my characters. since there’s no way to alter looks after creation.

I’m pretty sure they will let you change your appearance via cash shop in the not too distant future.

I can’t afford to spend money on frivolous things in games anymore, alas. And as tempting as it is to turn all of my in-game currency in to gems, I kind of probably shouldn’t, because who knows when I’ll need it for something else.
They just need to make the characters stand freakin’ still! Its hard to see small changes when he/she is constantly bopping around on screen the whole time.

Yeah I agree, it does become a bit of a nuisance.
EDIT: Good answer +1

I think its the best character creator I’ve seen in an MMO. If another one has done better, I’m drawing a blank as to which it might have been.. That said, though, I’m all for improving it, too. More customization is always a good thing, IMHO.
The only issue I had was that I wanted everything JUST RIGHT, and often I’d take too long and get booted back to the character screen. Happened three times when I was making my Guardian. =/
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
Indeed it does. It lacks variety of hairstyles, faces, and separate options for makeup, scars and other facial ornaments.
They could have done it 1000 times better then it is atm, comparing to some other games

Aion, EvE online, Phantasy Star Online, Saint’s Row, I could probably count more games that have much much better CC then GW2

Yeah, guess we’d just have to agree to disagree, because I disagree. I’ve played them all (except PSO), and still, like GW2’s creator best..
Doesn’t mean I think its perfect though. I think it would benefit greatly from an extra layer, for tattoos, scars, makeup, etc. I do kinda hate how currently, that sort of thing is bound to which face you choose, so that everyone with the same face will look too similar.
Yeah, I’ve actually noticed that you can get yourself a wide variety of looks by tweaking the sliders for the preset faces.
However, there are some things that bug me. There are times when I want a certain eye/nose/mouth shape from one face on a different face entirely, but it won’t let me have it. There’re also some faces where the sliders adjust unexpected things and don’t allow me to actually adjust the setting that it should adjust (i.e. The bottom left female human default face’s iris slider. It doesn’t adjust the iris, it adjusts the size of the entire eye, which makes for very alien proportions).
I dunno. I would’ve liked if I could pick my own nose/eye/mouth shape/eyebrows and just plop them onto a face shape, ‘cause there’re a lot of times where there’ll just be one part of the face that I really don’t like or that doesn’t mesh well with the others.
For the head slider problem, I’ve found that a useful way to get the proportions right is to hit the back button (only once) when you think you’re done customizing. This brings you back to the Profession selection screen and shows what your newly created character will look like in some of the higher tiered armor. If your head’s too small/large, it usually shows up a lot better there for some reason. From there, you can just hit the next button again to get back to your character. Just don’t pick another profession or it’ll reset all of your customization.
Goal: To have one character of every race, gender, and armor class combination at level 80.
Current progress: Human 4/6 | Charr 1/6 | Norn 1/6 | Sylvari 1/6 | Asura 1/6 | Total: 8/30
^ It’s ok to disagree, but obviously the biggest problem here is lack of variety and stuff you can do with your character’s face. Sylvari are probably best so far because all those colors so in the end it’s hard to find 2 same looking ones, but let’s say charr..how many times have I see a repeating pattern of black/white charr with 1 face.
I don’t know. It just seems to me they went lazy on the creator considering everything else in the game is kitten beautiful. I wouldn’t complain if MMO-s only just began offering facial/body customization other then plain presets.
I’m mostly fine with what they have now but it seems human and norn female got the most hairstyles, faces, and body types. I wish they gave every other character the same number of options. There’s always room for improvement.
One thing I’d like to see is more hairstyles, especially for Sylvari males. Not enough choice.
Isle of Janthir – Sylvari Mesmer – Alexandre Le Grande
Compared to most MMOs I’ve played, the customization isn’t that bad. I’m surprised that most companies that run them still don’t seem to grasp how important an element it is. I can forgive a lot of things in the game if the character customization is great. As far as GW2 is concerned, all I’d really ask for at this point is a hide option for each armor piece as it would open up more customization options across the board.
There is a serious lack of hairstyles, and options for the shaping of the face! Its so restrictive! Also, all hairstyles should be available for all classes. (With the exception of the Sylvari perhaps)
Elder Scrolls Oblivion, and Age of Conan had a much wider range of sliders.
Yea, Aion and PSO/PSU/PSP2 and PW has great variety of looks.
I really just want more hairstyles if anything. I still want an Aion type of change so we all don’t have to look EXACTLY alike. ie. Skinny/Fat/Tall/Short.
Who wouldn’t love a cute tiny Charr! Inb4 Huge tall scary kitten Avatar looking Asura. xD
This is a complaint I see in all the games that have one, yet I think this is one they did extremely well. Perhaps the only complaint I can have is lack of hairstyles (horns whatever) for some of the races not human or norn.
I think its somewhat robust and very well polished. I’d still like more options though.
Eye to eye distance slider, and more eye shapes. and brow selection.
“it doesn’t make you spend hours preparing to have fun, rather than having fun”
Guild missions say otherwise.
I agree that it’s lacking. Asura, Charr and Sylvari have incredibly limited options in regards to hair and face options compared to that of the Humans and Norn. They really need to add more to these specific races above all else.
I do agree that it would be nice to have scars and tattoos available.
For Sylvari I picture scars looking like they do when people cut up a tree. Leaves sort of a raised gash in the bark. That would be pretty nifty.
Overall, I don’t think the CC is all that bad. It does have a decent amount of options but it could be so much better.
You can do a lot with the face sliders, though there could always be more options. An age slider would be nice; more mouth details for frowning or smiling; forehead depth and height; and I couldn’t find a way to change the color of the lip gloss, which is all kinds of irritatin’. But I’d say it is a pretty decent CC, just with room ta improve.
I’m sorry I stepped outta yer box, don’ worry, if
ya whine enough they’ll put me right back.
