I actually looked up what ingredients/mats would be needed to make the staff last night and realized I will never own one lol. I can’t imagine how much time would be involved in obtaining this weapon…… To be honest I would actually be embarrassed to equip one of these on my character , To me it would be a badge of shame for all the hours of my life i just wasted grinding for one lol.

This is the basis for my argument right here.

Alot of people seem to use the argument that they want to grind skins rather then grinding gear, yet, to gain a Legendary, you have hit the nail on the head.

For a casual player, you are looking at months before they get one, if they even get one.

“Todays gaming genre want more then just to look cool, looking cool and participating in the same old content over and over again for months on end does not keep people playing or paying money in the cash shop. Content and character progression does. It is a proven buisness platform that certain companies have been monopolizing and taking advantage of now for the best part of a decade and after Anet spent out 150+ million dollars creating this title, do you really think they are going to just run with the hopes that people will stay and play based on skins?”

What in the blooming kitten hells are you talking about?

Fighting games, FPS, RTS, every-gaming-genre-that-is-not-a-freaking-RPG all are begging solely for more customization and the ability to barbie up their games.

People in MMORPGs for the most part want new content and (for some reason I will never understand) bigger numbers (I again point out a change from numbers to percentages would kill every MMO in existance right now). Look at what most people want – more options to have fun. That was page after page after page after page. Horse, houses, bigger sieges, owning towns.

Look at the part of the community that’s dying – TOR is going F2P, how many gear grind MMOs have closed, how many are fringed and nearly dead and relying on the few super expensive items to keep going? Adding ever increasing stat grinds make a % of the community happy, a % of the community angry and scares off most newcomers. The issue is GW2 is setup in a way that it doesn’t need or benefit from new tiers. Adding new tiers makes a lot of people want to quit – hardcores and non hardcore – and won’t add a lot of newcomers who are either already playing and will think of quiting or already farming in another MMO that gives them the gear grind they really want.

Let me be blunt.

This is GW2, not GW1. GW1 platform is 10 years old.

If you can’t understand why companies go F2P today, then you must not be aware that online gold sales for gaming in MMORPG’s is a multi-million dollar industry.

Why would a company waste time with a subscription based model when they can potentially earn millions more from a cash shop?

In my view, legendaries arent worth it.

lol, aye, I can understand where your coming from. And the whole process is just for appearance sake too. All that effort just to make you look prettier or to show how leet you are.

But it seems this was the whole idea of the legendary weapon concept. I just dont understand why people would go through all that just for a skin though. The ends dont justify the means imo. But for some reason that completely eludes me, some people think it does. Im guessing its only the hardcore GW1 players that know and love the lore behind the specific weapon that bother making them. Or people who just want to show everyone how leet they are.

All I know is Im not gonna see owners of a legendary weapon in the same light anymore. Seeing someone with one would just make me want to ask them why they got it, and if they felt like it was really worth all the time they put in.
Im not saying that owners of legendary weapons are stupid… I just want to clarify that before a legendary owner goes nuts at me… lol
I would just honestly want to know what it was that motivated them to obtain one.

You do realize that 90~% of those sales are for cosmetic or convenience items, right? Except for the Asian-esque styles MMOs who rely close-to-completely on selling you key upgrades to get better gear. Guess what – everyone who wants that can go there!

What you don’t understand is converting a water purifying plant into a metal refinery is absolutely kitten if you’re the leader in water purifying and aren’t setup to refine metal.

The reason 90% of companies go F2P is since micro transcations make up a good portion of their sales since people don’t mind farming more if the game is free. Why does WoW still have a subscription?

I don’t want people to get confused as to the nature of my post. I love cool looking skins, as a matter of fact my appearance was priority over my stats in all the years I played WOW. My motivation for showing up to guild raids night after night was to land that cool looking piece of armor that dropped off a specific boss. The stats were just a bonus to me and allowed me to do more dmg ie… secure my raid spot as a “Leet dpser” lol.

I’m not against GW2 having a grind to obtain a very cool looking weapon that not many can or will get. But i do think the requirements to make these are really “out there”, The prerequisites to make one of these weapons is not months of grinding but at least a year maybe 2 for a casual who plays maybe 2-3 hours a day, Is that even considered a casual these days ?

The OP has to be one of the most unintentionally hilarious posts I’ve read in a long time.
