I feel like this does not need much explanation but I will give one anyway:
1000 is a limit that the OP is asking for because that’s what he wants. What about a guild that has 2342 members across 6 guilds, should the cap be expanded to 2500 for them? Where do we draw the line?
Also, more importantly, I think the 500 cap is more than enough. My guild has hhit the cap on multiple occasions. When that happened, instead of creating new sister guilds (which is what I assume the OP’s guild did), we stopped recruiting. After a couple weeks of not recruiting and kicking inactive members, we were again able to continue recruiting.
Given the nature of the game and how players are destined to quit playing at one point or another, I suggest just halting recruitment until you get your numbers down to 500 and then merging into one guild.
We do not actively recruit in TOG, but people can apply if they stumble across our website. We kick people every quarter if they do not earn 1 achievement point during that time. We cant seem to get small enough to combine because there are enough active people.
A good question is posed in how big is too big for guild size. I believe that 500 is fine if alliance chat is added for cross guild comunication. However, because people can be in up to 5 different guilds and observing how infrequently causual gamers play GW2, to get enough people online to do large events like the new Tequatl with our own guild even in a 500 person guild will be tough. In both of our main guilds we have 40-60 people out of a few hundred members ever logged on at a time. And all of the members are active, just maybe not more than a few days a month. This is why I believe 1000 is the right number. That will give 80-120 online and representing at once which is enough to do large raid-like content.
why does it matter to you, if he has a guild with 3k members and since there is a cap he has to split into six guilds?
just because you run with no friends or guild doesnt mean anything, besides guild in this game dont count for anything than just guild missions, if this can be applied and is helpful for people it should be added, and no, an excuse of ‘’i dont want guilds bigger even when iam not in one’’ is not valid.
and i would even add stop the multi guild system.
