I’m a firm believer that any game that wants to be both competetive and maintain a high player base HAS to have this implemented. Look at all the good RTS, MOBA’s etc.
Guild wars 2 is a fantastic game with all the foundations in place, but when it comes to things to keep you playing there isn’t alot right now. Free tournaments get dull after you win a few and sPvP is too chaotic to play en mass.
ANet need to implement a system where you join up to a 5v5 game and your rating goes up or down depending on how the game goes. Similar to that of HoN for example.
I know from personal experience that my friends love this game but don’t have alot to do when they’re online alone. WvW is only fun in groups of friends and same with Tournaments. So they don’t stay online long. Then when I log on they are not on so I log off. And its a vicious cycle. You don’t have these problems with games like LoL, HoN, SC2 etc, because there is huge incentive to improve ones play when you can see your rating going up. Something to be proud about. Then when its prime time and we’re all on together we can team up for WvW or tournaments.
On a lesser note, something needs to be done about the WvW idles. I don’t think the conventional AFK check is enough. Maybe something along the lines of, if they are inactive for more than 50% of the time during a 10minute period, they get a warning message to get involved or at least move around. After a further 10minutes if the situation doesn’t change they are kicked. People are just afking in there and moving odd keys every few minutes to avoid the afk checker and its really hurting our servers chances.
