No.
There is already more than enough elitist kitten in the game, no need to make it easier for them.

I haven’t figured out why, but a lot of people in these forums are really against the idea /inspect.

I mean, i hear the reasons they say they’re against it, but it usually boils down to a deep rooted fear of elitism, coupled with an inability to see existing elitist elements that thrive already without /inspect.

Long story short, /inspect would be welcomed in my opinion, but prepare to be flamed .

So just because some elitism exist, we should increase the elitism even more?

No, but first we have to acknowledge that elitism will always exist as long as experienced players and newbies group together, that is unavoidable.

So, what you do is you add ways for these type of players to avoid each other. Currently, you can use LFG and gear pinging. /inspect functions the same way as gear pinging, but without having to bother anyone to ping their gear.

It is just optimizing something you can already do, so i don’t know why anyone would argue against making an existing function easier to use.

edit; and this is only a small part of /inspect. /inspect isn’t just a tool for weighing potential teammates.

It is also great for new players to see how other people build their gear without having the message them and make them ping their gear everything. And it is also great for every person that can’t be bothered to alt-tab to dulfy every time they see a piece of gear they don’t recognize.

When the end game essentially boils down to collecting neat pieces of gear, it blows my mind that people would be against a way to let people actually see the gear your using.

But it will also most likely increase the issue with elitism.
A great example of this is LotRO. You have the ability to stop people form inspecting you, but most groups won’t take you if you have that one active, simply because they can’t inspect you.

If the ability to inspect doesn’t exist at all situations like that would be much more rare (sure some people will still shout about people pinging gear, but most won’t bother with it.)

this isn’t an /inspect or elitism problem though. If you care about what gear people in your group use, it should be explicitly stated in the LFG. I don’t have to ping my gear because i join groups where people don’t care about your gear.

And do you really think that has nothing at all to do with the fact that it is “annoying” to check gear currently?

I disagree with this option.
When playing dungeons (where this issue is most up) I play an oddball guardian build. This means I took a lot of time and study to balance out a build that is perfect for me. It is the main reason I dont play CoF outside my guild, cause the elitism looks for zerker gear too much while that is total BS.

I never got any complaints bout my performance in dungeons. I give good enough complementary healing and boons to keep the team up, while I have a damage output that is higher then the average guardian. My gear seems on first glance very messy (all exotic or above) and without knowing my skills and traits you would think I would be rubbish. Even if you could see my traits and skills as well, most players would have issues.

If you want to do CoF speedclear (zerker gear) or high level FotM (agony resistance) it is perfectly ok to ask people to ping their gear so you can check it. I udnerstand why it is important there, but it gives people the option to prevent it to become the standard.

To illustrate why I am so against this. In GW1 there was something guild the zaishen bounty. The task was to kill a certain boss in hardmode to get some bonus tokens. They where very popular. One of the more easier ones was a T-rex boss in the maguuma jungle. Some warrior was making a party to do it and was advertising how elite he was. He demanded everyone to ping builds and gears (wich was totally insane cause the boss was easy like hell) and he demanded people even to change skills or weapons and kicked two people calling them noobs (and I know them, they where not noobs).

Ok after wasting way too much time with ridiculous amounts we go in and he dies in 3 seconds at the first regular groups (you could actually avoid those). The rest of us laughed, left him for death on the floor while we killed the boss in 5 seconds.

I’m not saying that people demanding to check gear/skills are all like that, but they are a lot closer then a good player. If you want to judge me, do so on my performance in the dungeon, not by a narrowminded look at my gear.

I’m not against people demanding to go full zerker in CoF, I just dont like that type of forced play. I am a good player but I play the game as I want to play it.

And do you really think that has nothing at all to do with the fact that it is “annoying” to check gear currently?

it may, but i choose to believe the reasons that are right in front of me.

The group said “all classes welcome” therefore, i believe they tolerated me because they welcomed everyone.

If i join an all classes welcome and someone /inspects me saying “LOLZ NOOB YOU HAZ NO ZERKER,” then i would tell the group leader to request zerker only.

If you pick and choose the tools we get based on what the worst of the worst players are going to do with it then we wont ever get anything fun.

Also, it’s not fair to compare /inspect in other games to GW2, since this game is much more skill dependent. While some people may berate you for not optimizing your gear properly, it is much less likely to happen since optimizing your gear isn’t going to be the main reason you win/fail and dungeon, as opposed to other games where you can be gated from content because you don’t have adequate gear to complete it.

I am totally against inspecting gear. For any squad that requires every member to inspect i’d say they r serously childish and they should go play Farmville as it is a good match with their maturity. I believe in letting a player’s skills speak for themselves rather than their gear. Gear doesn’t make the player good the player makes the gear good.

I’m neutral on the issue but I can see the pros and cons. The most obvious is because this is a game of cosmetic progression. People generally want to show off their gear. The elitist aspect exists but there is such low potential for it to be a problem – the LFG system has done a good job of placing people together that generally want to play with each other. This is to say that players who are elitist and would use /inspect to build a team generally do not build a team through LFG, and therefor would have no need to inspect…

But I digress – /inspect is good for looking at gear when you don’t want to bother someone for it, or if the player is AFK, or so you don’t have to hunt down the item on the trading post, wiki, or otherwise. It’s obviously not a necessity but I can see the potential for convenience.

The only thing I’d like is to be able to see the skin. I don’t care what gear you’re physcially using, I want to know the cosmetics of some of the gear. So give me an asthetic inspect so I can see the skins of the cool junk I see around the champ trains and in towns.
