Inspecting other player's gear.
At times I wish this was in the game, but I do feel it would add discrimination in the game. That’s just me talking from past experiences in other games. I wouldn’t mind it being in the game or not.

I agree that it could add discrimination. But I also think it could add praise. People get to see the cool stuff you’ve worked so hard to get! With the absence of addons in this game, I don’t see a huge risk of some sort of gear-score system for partying. Dungeons aren’t very “gear dependent” in this game anyway, and I don’t think gear/item visibility would suddenly initiate this.

To counter that, I reckon that a checkbox should be added somewhere (perhaps on the Hero window) that would allow other players to see your gear as long as it’s enabled. Problem solved!

no, if you wanna know what someone is using, be social and ask them. We don’t need another excuse for people to judge others.

Meh, there’ll be a lot of people denied a dungeon run by a handful of vocal elitists then, and people like me would be more than happy to dungeon run with the people made outcasts for blocking /inspects.
I’ll say no with the reasoning of descrimination. Elites would be all over this, and no new/poor players would be able to do a lot of content. I prefer it the way it is now; I can go do any dungeon with rare gear on and still haul some power with me.

I’d agree if there were any dungeons in this game that were actually hard. You don’t need good gear to play them, everybody knows this and wouldn’t start caring just because gear is visible. If somebody denied you a spot because you didn’t have good enough gear, you probably don’t want to party with them anyway. The option to disable is used in other mmos and is effective for people who for whatever reason, want to hide their gear.
But I also think it could add praise. People get to see the cool stuff you’ve worked so hard to get!
What cool stuff? All gear is pretty uniformy orange once you are level 80, and being kitted out with full orange isn’t exactly brag-worthy. The only step beyond orange stat-wise is Ascended, and the ascended back pieces at least are very visible if the player chooses to show them off.
All other cool stuff is cosmetic, which means they can see it directly without an inspection tool.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

That cosmetic side can be difficult to discern and getting a name to go with an appearance can be quite valuable when you try to reproduce the look. The difference between different dyes can also be very subtle, but important (It is easy to mistakenly think that some common and uncommon dyes are significantly mroe expensive rare dyes). That said….

I agree with this entirely. If you see something that you like that is unique, ask the person. At worst they won’t respond or will be rude, but at best you just made a new friend.

I’ve seen plenty of cases where people were spamming for party members with the caveat that they be wearing full exotics. Why? I guess they’re hoping to shave a few seconds off the run by only taking people with the best gear (which ignores that there’s no barrier to keep an incompetent player from having full exotics, so it’s kind of stupid). For some people there’s the assumption that a decent player should be able to afford full exotics for every toon (I’ve seen so many people actually make that argument), which is ridiculous.
I would kind of like the feature though. Not because I’m anti-social, I just feel weird asking someone what pants they’re wearing, you know? I just want to see what a particular piece of gear is without troubling anyone. And since items can be transmuted you might have to ask what gear the stats came from anyway.
Edit: Just being able to look at their character isn’t always enough, even with an armor gallery website to help! Just this morning I was trying to figure out what set a pair of pants came from, but ended up having to ask anyway, as the pants are mostly covered by the top in that particular set, so unless worn with a different top (as this player was) you’d never recognize them(well, I couldn’t anyway).
There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon

Totally need this feature. So I don’t have to force people to link me their gear always.

Who are you to think you should force someone to link their gear to you?

To ensure there are no magic find leechers in the group.
If anyone forced me to link my gear for approval, I would probably tell them to go shove their head up a dolyak’s orifice. Elitism has no place in GW2. If you want me to link my gear, you’ll have to prove to ME that it is you who are not dead weight in the group!

What if you all played with MF. Would you all get the Ascended rings faster?
My short bow stacks MF up to 25 times. But I can still kill a mob faster then most other players.
If you want to know what someone’s wearing, ask them. You’ll, a) find out what they’re wearing, and b) make the player feel nice as you compliment them on nice style/gear. Win win.
Inspections are not needed at all.
Inspections are a neat thing. I didn’t realize people in GW were so afraid of a little competition……

Such ‘competition’ as you call it, from what I’ve seen over the last 10 years, only serves to drive community’s and people apart.
LF1M AC story must be level 80 and have at least 30 AR will inspect.
if you could ONLY see the name (so you could find the same look) i could accept it, but showing all the stats and runes/sigil is a big NO, there id plenty of LFM’s already that are asking for only lvl 80’s, or only specific classes, so waht makes you think ppl would not begin to only allow exotic/ascended too then?
But how would the magic find ninja’s be able to magic find then?! preposterous!
LOCK THIS THREAD I SAY!
(no pls, add it)
The only necessary stats to be visible are AR and MF.

Another problem is a lot of players will start copy builds , so you will have 90% of the people running with same builds.
Doesn’t matter what gear you have, if you don’t know how to dodge/react to the enemy you’re still going to have your character on their behind.

So your original post about wanting to know what cool looking gear was, is bs?
You seem to only want to inspect for dungeons.
No thanks.
I ask people what their gear is all the time because I think it looks cool- people are always friendly when they reply.
If you asked me to link my gear for a dungeon run I would tell you to go play by yourself.
I don’t believe that GW2 needs it. I was going to give a detailed explanation why, but it’s a combination of reasons already given above.

That would be bad and give alot of people heart attacks when they see that I dare to go instances with only rare equipment ! RARE ! Can you belive it ?! IMPOSIBRU!

pff my thief been trying fractals with a combination of white, blue and green gear (and die more than i like, but im pretty sure that casue im more used to playing my mesmer :P)
For some reason I thought this was in game during BWE. Guess I was wrong. I wouldn’t mind it, but yes I can see it being troublesome for people who don’t have the best gear.
Inspect gear function ! ?
Why does that scream to me of the Days back in Dalaran where elitist tossers would stand around shouting LFM then demand you show them your gear or else you couldnt join their group ! ! !
Nah.. been there, done that, It caused too much bad feeling ! ! !
Money can’t buy happiness, But it allows you to search in more places to find it !
Inspecting my gear would be completely useless since everything is transmuted. No one would know where things dropped or how to get that look anyway from seeing the names.
x.x
I come from several MMOs were gear inspection is enabled…and has caused absolutely no rpobelm x.x
The game I come from is EXTREMELY gear dependant…and yet nobody cares about chur gear in a party… I have went through alot of online gam,es…and rarely if ever have I encountered “Elitist” outside of PvP zones. Those who are “elitist” are exactly the ones who DON’T get a party in the first place.
But anyways…I agree this would be a good idea… Besides… In this game if you know someones build you normally don’t have to ask for what gear they are using, other than runes there really is no variety in gear other than the amount of +Attribute it contains.
