And if you wanna play the GW1 monk, go play GW1
many of the aspects of the GW1 monk is already there mainly in the guardian
. I Think The Monk Class Would Be Pretty Awesome. Although They Would Have To Implement New Weapons And Armor, Like Gauntlets For Hand To Hand Combat, Which Would Be Awesome. I Also Think They Should Make A Sorc Class, Or At Leased Let The Ele Use A More Wide Variety Of Weapons. I Mean They Are Ele’s They Can Make Something From Anything. Let Them Use Sword And Shield So We Can Have A Battle Sorc, As I Call Them, Or Dual Sword Or Even A Greats Sword. The Dagger Dagger Is Nothing Close To A Battle Sorc Set Up. There Are Only Two Ways To Play An Ele. From Afar With Power Or Up Close With No Power At All. Either Way You Will Either Die Fast Or Not Do Much Damage At All, Not Including The Healing Way… But No. Plus The Not Being Able To Switch Weapons Is Horrible. That Should Be Fixed.
Other people I was talking with they didnt like monk and the healer role.Ok thats fine since GW 2 all classes have offensive/defensive and supporting abilites to help the group out in tough situations.Monk should do the same but better…
We want the GW 1 Monk to come back again, more awesome than before and alot more improved. We want a new idea of a Monk based on Guild wars 1 monk class.
@Abaddon Kizoku: How did you get from the “monk class would be pretty awesome” to a post mainly dedicated to eles? Off topic much? :P
Anyways, I agree wholeheartedly with GummiBear. The guardian was a mishmash of the monk, warrior, and ritualist all in one, and is already highly support-oriented. Having a class that’s even more support oriented would be detrimental to the game’s philosophy of not needing to wait for a specific class to do dungeons since everyone would want the super support monk to make the dungeon faceroll easy. The GW1 monk (or a slight variation of it) does not really belong in this game unless it becomes that martial arts offensive type that many people seem to hate.
Also, please stop using “we” for everything. This is your idea, not ours.

Guardian doesnt have anything common with monk from GW 1.Except from the you might call it something spiritual.Nothing else remind a tradinional Monk.First Monks use cloth robes and they are mainly casters. Not 2 handers swords/mace wielders. The only think that mind remind for a monk is that a guardian can use a staff and heal a bit and support the group as many other classes can do the same in GW 2 if they equip a staff. That doesnt make them a monk. And still cant understand why you are upagainst to the Monk class. It served well the GW 1 purpose in the game. And when I say we,I mean the people that I know and I have talk with them in game about that matter.Friends of mine and guildes. Now if someone doesnt like the monk dont play him if they add him after all.People that have play GW 1, I think they find it akward that the monk isnt in the game anymore. And if you remember most classes in GW1 they added after 1-2 years in later expansions. The Assasin that you know now was introduce in a later expansion called “Guild Wars Factions” along with Dervish class.
And I was playing GW 1 why to play it again? And all this I am saying atm is they should make a Monk class that fits the roles and the purpose of GW2.And not making him so supportive and inbalanced as it was in GW1.And why everyone will asked about a Monk for a faceroll dungeon run? What peoples asking to make a run easier doesnt concern me atm.Since even now I have see bunch of people asking a specific class for the group. They want a Mesmer for hes buffs, they want a Guardian for all hes goodies that brings, and they want a Warrior for hes high dps. Those are options and choices that each one does.So the argument that yea dont add monk cause everyone will asking for a monk doesnt exist.
kungkittenbattle monks

While I agree with you, the idea of a monk class would be still be nice.

@Gnashor then tell me WHAT did the monk in GW1 have that you desire so much in GW2, im rather certain we can tell you were then which class have it already in gw2, other than the abbilty to keep everyone else alive singlehandely
“…monk in GW1 cause was weak in pvp and in general…”. Obviously you have not played GW1.
I loved my Monk in GW1, but there is just no place for them now in GW2. On the other hand, seeing several pretty girl Monks doing their katas in the park of Divinity’s Reach, would be a nice sight. Of course, with ANet’s record with dances in this game, they’d end up doing the kitten macarena now.
I know classes were added in expansions. That is not the point anyone is making. Since you’re staunchly in support of a “Monk class that fits the roles and the purpose of GW2”, maybe you should suggest such a class idea. A well-developed idea so we can see where you’re coming from. Right now you’re essentially saying: “Bring back the monk, but make it a little different”. That’s not a thought-out suggestion.
Give us at least a loose idea of it’s unique mechanic (i.e. Eles have attunements, Thieves have initiative, Warriors have adrenaline, etc.), what weapons it’d use, etc, etc.
And by the way, the Devs said quite early on that the “monk” would not be making a return in this game. To be honest, I still don’t see the need for such a class.

Guardian doesnt have anything common with monk from GW 1.
you mean other than
Symbol of Wrath,Banish,Smite,Ray of Judgment,Shield of Judgment,Shield of Absorption,Zealot’s Fire,Spear of Light,Healing Breeze, the icon for the class?
Face it the GW1 monk is never going to make a return because the trinity is gone . ANet specifically left it out because of that fact.
well outside the Monks fighting skills and bare handed fist attack fungkittenfighting style the support features from the monk can be striped as well over half f guild wars 1 skills was striped from all classes anyway for the utility bar use so comming up with enough skills to attach to the monk only using the monk’s melee skills is well then enough to fill up it’s trait bar that covers the utility bar and it’s fighting style. Hm it’s trait tree based around it’s attack traits of the gw 1 monk holy light or holy (Magic attacks) Precision. have to replace healing with another skill that does the same job (no direct target heal skills) protection can be a trait transferred to toughness that is 3 hm 2 more..trait to increase it’s attacks Kungkittenish (Pysical attacks) name Power, and 5th a shot in the dark um god’s judgement Condition damage? and as for weapons, they need to have there knuckle class weapons back and they already have there weapon set from gw’s 1 to fall back on tie in what skills are best suited for what weapons staff set up like a ele’s 2 aoe support ground target skills as yes a monk still need the ability to help a party like any other class can. that was my attempt to try to have some kinda idea for a remake of the monk killing it’s support role.
P.S. Seems the kitten filter has alrered a few words.

I fail to see how the GW monk couldn’t work in GW2. Our beloved GW2 uses the trinity of damage, control, and support.
Remember Protection Monks? Control &/or support
Smiting? Damage, hurrr
Healing not so much, Rather Divine Favor type of play for a damage/Support role.
These three play styles could well fit into GW2 just fine. So that’s not the issue, here. The issue is: WHY should they? Monk isn’t needed. I’m not saying it wouldn’t be cool, and fun, and nostalgic as all bloody heck, because it would be all of those things and more. I’m just saying that without the need for dedicated healers, having monks in the game at launch would have been a mistake. The point was to NOT have the class that makes everyone go “hey healer” or “need a monk for this run” or some other variation of “this is needed to succeed because that’s how it is.”
Truth is, Monks were healers first, bonders second, and smiters occasionally. And that’s just not the vibe in GW2. You say it doesn’t have to be that way, and you’re absolutely right, but veterans from GW1 and imported players from standard tank/healer/dps format games could see the monk as a throwback to that need a healer mentality that we’re trying to avoid, here.
Personally, I really hope they add monks (I doubt they will). As above, I think the reason they did away with them in the first place was they didn’t want any ‘trinity’ type classes, however monks smite, cc, so that blows that out the water.
It’s kind of strange lore wise as well, that they just disappeared.
They should definitely make a monk character. I didn’t play guild wars 1 so no comment as to how it should be compared to that one. I’m thinking more shaolin monk with fist and kick attacks or like two hand staff or sword (no shields though). For rang you could equip like a medallion or something and have it be like qi attacks in the case it was shaolin style and if not then just some sort of spiritual attack. They could do bare hand knock backs or stuns with a staff via a whirling strike or something. For sword they could have things like flurry where they would do a ton of weaker cuts in a short amount of time( that way it only matters if the cuts hit so that others can dodge it so it requires skill to use). In that same sense it should be that just a fist could be an off hand weapon so you could do like a “paralyzing palm” attack then use the swords flurry thing. Then for a healing aspect they could have like an aoe with the medallion so they hold it up and light comes out of it and makes a circle on the ground for like a holy heal. For weapons equipped they could like put away weapons and put their hands in the stereotypical praying position then light emits like normal and they get their heal and weapons re equip. That same thing could do an AoE heal around them too. I think handling the melee and healing would be simple. For range have like a medallion with like a yin yang or an eightfold path symbol and it could shoot a beam of damaging light or a ball of it, it could maybe raise the users damage threshold or like go invincible for three seconds. It could maybe do buffs for allies so they can have a more supportive role. I don’t have all the answers but maybe this is viable?
all the self healing is enough
I’d love to see the monk come back as a hand to hand combat class. With a mixture of offensive/supportive abilities. (New ‘fist’ or ‘gauntlet’ weapons perhaps?) And before people say it would be copying Blizzard, there are plenty of games (Nevernwinter Nights 1+2, Oblivion, Martial Heroes etc) that have incorporated fighter monks into the game years before.
People saying GW1 monk is similar to GW2 guard, well, you haven’t played either of them it seems. The difference is incomparable.
No, just and absolutely no. Gw1 is that way —→

ok self healing isn’t enough ok i deal a lot of damage but my health always sits much lower then i would like it at, ok i would love a healer in a dungeon so i can keep doing my damage and not worry as much about my health bar.
ow and a ranged monk weapon could be a blow gun that would be great
PS.Please dont answer on this post asking a Kungfu panda monk or Diablo 3 monk or any martial arts monk.If you want to play a panda that can kick and punch then go play wow.And if you want to play the diablo 3 monk then play Diablo, its simple.
What’s good for the goose…

I bet you kitten off a lot of people in your runs.
Has anyone ever heard of support Guardians? -.-

Reintroducing a healing class into a supposed no trinity game, just wouldn’t happen. The monk was all about group regen and healing with some smiting skills on the side. That’s basically the guardian. As good as the monk may of been, it doesn’t have a place here in gw2 unless they completely redo it’s mechanics.
break. I feel like they should be back by now..”
I would like to see the monk return too but not as a healing class. I want one that’s based on martial arts with a focus on interrupts.

Didn’t you read the OP!? You’re not allowed to suggest a martial artist monk!! You have to go play Diablo 3 if you want that!

I tried reading the opening post but I have a moderate case of OCD and the grammar was literally making me twitch. Also, I have Torchlight II for my lootfest fix. It’s cheaper, better and I can play it at launch.

I wasn’t. I don’t expect Shakespearean sonnets but periods aren’t just that weird thing girls get.
