I can’t understand why arena.net don’t want to translate the text to Italian

Because then they would also have to add voice-overs in Italian and that would cost quite a bit of money.
Another thing to keep in mind is that it is a very small language and the only people that would actually get something out of it would be a very small minority of the players.

By the same token, they should translate to Dutch or the scandinavian languages as well, because they have decent playerbases there as well.

The reason they went with French, German and Spanish is because those are some of their biggest audiences, and French and Spanish is spoken in more than just France and Spain.

If you want Italian translations, I suggest you build a time machine, go back in time to medieval Italy, colonize half the world and then come back. That way, South America will speak mostly Italian instead of Spanish or Africa will speak Italian instead of French, and Anet would bother making you a language interface.

I asked for text not for voices, and we have a lot of funs who translate it.
The italian comunity is more bigger then you except.
The problem is why arena.net don’t want to put the fun traduction in the game.
Example, Neverwinter Online get out the 20th of june and the 27th the traduction in 6 languages will be released. (It is a free to play too).
Instead we have an ancient culture then the others

Because they won’t translate text without voice-overs. Especially since much of the game is voiced. Sure, you might not be asking for voice-overs, but what about another italian player? Maybe he wouldn’t want to feel like a “sub-standard” player by not having his game voice in the same language as the text.

The italian community might be big. But so is the Scandinavian (and that is 5 different languages there), the greek, the Asian (and that is quite a bit of languages there) and so on.

The italian community IS a minority in the game, and it is highly unlikely that NCSoft would spend the rather high amount of money needed to translate the game for them, since that would also force them to translate it for every other country that plays as well.

Ours italian modders made an amatorial traduction of the game (Text).
They didn’t ask for money, but NCSoft don’t want to put that in the game.
And this is the think i don’t understant

Because NCSoft would still need to proof-read every single line to make sure it is correct?

It is a waste of money, since people that are requesting the translation is already playing the game, and therefore it would most likely cost more than they would gain from doing the translation.

Even if they managed to get some more people into the game because of a translation, it is quite unlikely that the amount of people that would join would generate enough income to cover the costs of translating millions of lines of text (and most likely requires hiring completely new people as well, since I doubt they currently have an Italian expert on the team.)

Care to post a link to this famous fAn-made translation you talk about? I seem to find only largely incomplete projects.

As a dutch player I want to point out that the game is highly popular in the netherlands. So I want a translation too. And I know a good amount of Polish players. Please help them as well.

Italians may have a lot of self-esteem and pride, but compared to german, spanish, french, english and soon Chinese your language and culture is rather small. Too small to make it cost effective.

Google Translate FTW! ;D
I feel this topic is a bit useless. Arena.net can better focus on making new dungeons, and other Perm. Content, instead of translate things.

GW1 have way less spoken dialogue though (and most likely less text as well) and it is quite likely that the people that translated it weren’t actually part of the company but rather people that were hired specifically for translation.

Indeed, but they would need people, and people cost money and takes time. They would also need to rehire said people every month (or have them on standby, costing money) in order to translate every single new release.

I am Swede, I am rather sure that the game is not available in Swedish (neither the text or the voice-overs) and I wouldn’t even touch those options even if I had the choice.

Man, I don’t want to sound like some annoying prick, but after watching you say “traduction” 8 times, I want to point out it’s “translation”..

And for that second bit… I’m from Belgium, my language will most likely never be implemented in any MMO ever. Want to know I deal with it? I learned English from a very young age through movies and games. My English is on par with my native language because of it.

In fact, I wouldn’t want the game to be translated to Dutch EVER. I used to play with some Dutch guys back in GW1 when I was teaching them DoA. When on voice chat, they used to speak Dutch to each other all the time, and it was almost literally painful to my ears, because it just doesn’t work in an MMO setting in my opinion. Even if it was ever translated to Dutch, I would still play in English.

Instead of complaining about not having Italian, you might want to take the opportunity to work on your English skills a bit.

LOL, money costs?
Italian’s minority?

The italian’s are 1 of the minorities in the game, simple because very much italians see “Guild Wars 2” in the Gamestop shops, but they see “Not in Italian” and the average Italian do not buy it.
The argoments are connected, because if Guild Wars 2 it’s in italian, the people who buy it, cover the costs.

Now, if you see the italian comunity, taking into consideration that we don’t have italian language, we aren’t a very small minority. =)

So, lets translate the game to every single language in the world then, since that COULD make people from those countries buy the game?

I am quite sure there are quite a few games with rather big italian guilds/kins/whatever without the game being available in their language. LotRO is a great example
