Right now the current system is very alt unfriendly. What I think is a good idea is to make the daily, monthly, karma jugs, and Laurels all character bound, that way if people want to play more then 1 character, they can earn Karma Jugs and Laurels for each of their characters and put in the same amount of effort on each of their characters and gain the same reward.

This would also entice people to play alts, there by populating the leveling up zones, since they know that playing alts are not gimped in any way, since their alts can earn karma jugs and laurels as well and not just 1 of their characters.

This would bring a new number of people insisting that the game is forcing them to play their alts (yes even if they don’t have them) and repeating the same activity for x number of times depending on how many characters they have. Also I think what you just proposed is opposite of making it friendly, you’re making it even more unfriendly, currently Karma Jugs and Laurels are very alt friendly because you can access them no matter which player gets them, you can play one char for 100 hours and get x amount of laurels or jugs, then decide to roll a new char and you will instantly have access to those laurels and karma you acquired previously, where in your proposal alts would have to start from scratch, hence making it even more alt unfriendly. I guess, it all depends on how frequently you change characters.

Alts already have to start from scratch with the current system. Buy something with laurels and they are gone, for all your characters, and what you bought is only for 1 character. People who only want to play 1 character shouldn’t feel forced into playing more then 1 character. But people who like to play more then 1 character may feel forced to concentrate on 1 character only and not playing any of their alts because of the current system, there by making less population in the leveling up zones.

Account Bound currencies are always superior as a design decision to Soulbound currencies.

I like it that Laurels are account bound.

We just need more new ways to earn Laurels.
*through separate monthlies for PVE, WvW, Dungeon
*Add 2nd tier to the daily to earn anther Laurels
*Weekly Laurels attachments

It’s true that there could be many more alt-friendly features, but account-bound currencies are definitely NOT unfriendly.

With account-bound stuff, you can do things with the character you want, and any other character can benefit from that.

That’s alt-fiendly.

How….in the world…is anything alt unfriendly? What you want is just…bad. I have alts all over and don’t think I need to log into each every day to get bonuses.

Working as intended

I have alts and would hate it if the karma and rewards were character bound. As it is now, I can save up karma jugs/dungeon rewards/badges/laurels and then decide to give them all to one particular alt when I want something for them. How is this alt-unfriendly in any way?

Because it artificially prolongs gearing up alts. Have 5 characters in all? Going to take 15 months to get Rings/Amulet from Laurels, instead of taking 3 months for all 5 characters if Monthly/Daily and Laurels were character bound. Becomes even worse if you are someone who cannot play everyday.

The current system limits your choices as is. It is only 1 character at a time friendly, and not multiple character friendly at all, it entices people to concentrate on 1 character since they only get rewarded for use on 1 character at a time. Instead of playing multiple characters and getting rewarded for multiple characters at the same time. The current system is just rewarding 1 character at a time.

I guess you guys would not mind if Karma became account bound, and you could only earn X amount of Karma each day. Have 5 characters that you want Karma Exotic gear on? Welp, guess you are going to wait 3+ years to get all of them geared up, no matter how much time you can put into the game.

Is karma needed in order to keep a character at BiS? No. Are most of the things bought with karma account bound? Yes. Therefore, you can play on any char you want for the karma and still get the same effect.
If the character-bound currency was for BiS equipment, then in order to keep your alts equipped you would be forced to play all of them, all the time, lest they fall behind.

And if you had to play all your characters to get them the currency needed for BiS then you’d be FORCED to gimp yourself in order to do so, rather than being able to do it on a stronger character if you so choose.

Though the BiS problem has more to do with the Ascended tier than anything else, honestly.

Being REQUIRED to play your alts in order to get them geared is extremely unfriendly to alt users. Just like, say, preventing someone from giving money or items to their alts from their main would be very unfriendly to alt users by forcing them to play their alts to make them keep up, even though alts are all about having choice.

You might want to reconsider your request. When ArenaNet determined the amount of Karma and Laurels that would be awarded to a character, they also determined the price for items you can buy with them. If you ask them to make the Karma Jugs and Laurels character bound, then they will probably have to adjust the prices for items as well.

They know you can earn the Karma Jugs and Laurels at a set rate, so if suddenly you now can earn five (or even more) times more in the same amount of time, prices will probably be adjusted to account for all that extra currency you will have.

And also remember, ArenaNet has already said that the Daily and Monthly missions are NOT the only way to earn Laurels. More avenues for getting them are coming.

How on earth is having tokens and jugs account-bound alt unfriendly? That has got to be the weirdest definition ever. Seriously, your proposal here is the alt-unfriendly proposal. It will mean that fewer people have alts since they have to repeat everything for each alt and can’t share the advantages of a higher-level character with their alts.

Having an alt always takes extra time. That’s part of the tradeoff of alts.
