In Guild Wars, I always liked to play around with my builds and find something new that I enjoyed. I had so many different builds saved it got ridiculous. Because it costs a significant sum of money (for the 99% in gamer world – we’re not all pro farmers) to respec, I can’t really do that. I had to save up, even at level 80, to buy the one Grandmaster’s Training Manual I’ve used so far. I’m already getting a little tired of my build, and I’d like to try something new (and go back to my old!) without having to pay for it. I feel that the current system somewhat discourages players from exercising the class flexibility that was the crown jewel of Guild Wars 2’s marketing campaign.
On the GW1 wiki, I read how at one point attribute reallocation had to be earned and that this functionality was removed. Eventually we also were given the wonderful ability to save builds. It was truly integral in keeping the game, which I played quite a bit for 6 years, from feeling stale. Can we hope to see a similar pattern with Traits?

You only buy the book once. Resetting traits is accomplished by the other dialog option at your trainer. It’s 3.5s with all 70 points trained.

I agree with this and many other things. It discourages testing more builds like the waypoint costs discourages traveling to all zones, like scaled down rewards discourages playing anything less then lvl 80 zones, like the repair costs discourages hard fights when solo or in small groups, etc.
Its someone’s idea to keep the majority of players, who are not Wall Street (aka TP) brokers, broke for the sake of a healthy virtual economy.
It seems that atm, no matter how many threads are done on this matter, nothing is done about it. Well, at least we dont make a living out of GW2 economy, otherwise there would be massive street riots in Tyria

Yes, they can just put a " – " button to the " + " one in Traits and put a restriction that this " – " wis available only when talking to a trainer NPC so limit the abuse of the system and have a similar “return to town” feel from GW1.

I didn’t know the cost was significantly lowered after buying the Grandmaster’s Training Manual. That’s much better, and less dautning than the 2g. I still feel that that should be free – you’re modding your own character’s attributes and not using any in-game resources. It’s different from buying runes, armor and weapons, and from using public transit (Waypoints). I think re-speccing should be free.

The nature of gw2 is very different to gw1. Being able to re-spec on the fly would create a lot of problems, imo.

What I would like to see as a compromise is being able to build 3-4 different builds and to be able to switch to any of those builds when out of combat. Much like we can change our gear.

What works well in a dungeon does not neccessarily work well when soloing, and vice versa. One should be able to be effective in a dungeon without having to zone somewhere else and spend silver to respec your traits only to have to go back and spend silver and respec again just so you can farm effectively by yourself.

In my limited experience, most of the people in the game run around as DPS glass cannons because its the best choice when playing solo, and that means that in PvE the vast potential combinations and co-operation between players instantly goes down the drain.
