Guild Wars 2

Copy pasted my post in the dungeon forums, but this suggestion could easily be applied to much more than just dungeon grouping. TLDR version at bottom.

As many people may already be aware, dungeons (and particularly explorable mode) are one of the only end-game options for the PvE oriented level 80. This in itself, is not too large an issue, at least as far as I’m concerned. The problem however, arises when attempting to find groups to run these wonderfully crafted dungeons, and it seems a real shame that many will never get to experience this content simply due to an inability to find others to do them with. “Get a guild you casual” some might say, but I must point out, that even with a guild, most people would be hardpressed to convince four other individuals to constantly run a particular dungeon if they are not personally interested in that dungeon’s armor/weapon skins.
This is not the first time this sort of problem is arisen in an MMO and will certainly not be the last. While I personally feel that much could be alleviated internally by reworking the sorely lacking in-game LFG system, I place more stock in the ability of like-minded players to actuate change than Arena Net with corporate bureaucracy dictating their every movement.
As such, I would like to point to a wonderful website that was established for World of Warcraft’s Rated Battlegrounds as an example. BattleMasters.net allowed players to log on a simple IRC chat and look for groups from a global server pool in real time. With Guild Wars 2’s remarkable cross-server capabilities, this same system could be implemented with relative ease to the great benefit of its burgeoning dungeon diving community. A similar network is already in place for PvP tourney grouping via #GW2Ringer, and a quasi-official IRC for dungeon grouping would be of tremendous help to those currently locked out of PvE content due to a lack of local server interest.
Then again, it may be that such a system already exists, and if so, please feel free to point it out to this ignorant soul.

TLDR; Groups hard to find on local server to server basis, make IRC where everyone from every server can simply post LFG, LFM for X content, etc.

I made a post before about the lfg system, sad thing is Arena Net has said theres nothing in the works about a LFG system. Which is super sad… I hope they change their minds and at least update the one they have to being server wide.

Something needs to be done. The system is terrible as it is, and I’m astonished that they don’t seem to realize it.

I’m well aware that ANet will be useless in this movement, this suggestion was more for the player community. The IRC networks I cited in my original post were all player created, specifically because they did not wish to wait around while the game makers skirted around the implementaiton of a very reasonable, and widely desired request.
My hope is that members of the GW2 COMMUNITY will create such an IRC network in lieu of the in-game LFG tool that is unused both by those who know about it, and obviously those who don’t. Unfortunately I personally don’t know the first thing about setting up websites and such, but if anyone were to begin undertaking such a project, I would be more than happy to assist in the effort.

I dont know about IRC but to incorporate anything with links to the game I think you would need arena nets approval. The simplest solution I could think of that wouldnt be hard at all is to make a website with servers listed that link to their own chatroom. That would be extremely easy but the thing is, I’m not entirely sure people would use it.

Just to clarify, this IRC would be independent of the in-game UI entirely, it has nothing to do with ANet, as I’ve already accepted that they can’t/won’t help us, the players in this matter. Nothing would ever have to be linked, simply tell them to google, for example the PvP IRC, #GW2Ringer, it will immediately bring up the appropriate link, and finding groups from that point on would be quick and painless; certainly not like the 2 hours it took for me to find a post-patch Arah group earlier today.
