Launcher Information
I was just thinking the same thing! Its not like it would be very difficult to even just post it. I’ve been trying to find the total size for like an hour to no avail!
1.13 gigs, it seems.
That being said, I agree that it should be in the launcher.
I agree also. It’s not like it would even be hard to just count up the sizes of the files needed by the client and display the total, or whatever.
Or they could even just fix the progress bar to display a realistic representation of the progress, instead of what it’s doing now. It’s completely ridiculous to have the progress bar sit at 98% all the way from 40mb to 180.
Or they could post it somewhere. I was told by Support that they couldn’t do that because sometimes it downloads corrupted or missing files as well, but there’s an easy workaround for that. It reads: ‘Assuming that your game is up to date, and no files are missing, today’s update should be roughly 1.13GB’
That is not hard.
So very much this.
I’m still mildly peeved that I deliberately bought the boxed version of the game to try to avoid using all the remaining usage before even starting to play the game, only to find that I had an overly elaborate key code box for a digital download. Disc 2 has never been out its’ sleeve – perhaps it’s a GW2-themed coaster now?
GW2 downloads will not be the same for everyone, as not everyone has downloaded the same files, the size of the download will vary a lot.
And sice the gw2.dat is basically a virtual drive that has to allocate space for more files, its size will also vary a lot.
Then files are downloaded as needed, checked, and if they are wrong, they get downloaded again, you may have to download a file more than once.
So it’s not that they won’t tell you. Is that they can’t tell you.

The launcher will check the dat container. See what is missing or needs to be downloaded. From that they can at least estimate the size of your download.
After that it can recheck your files and see what is corrupt or missing again, and start a download with an estimated size remaining.
Yes, it will be different between users, but when they check your data file, they know what needs to be downloaded and therefore knows the size of each file.
