Legendary Skins
Hi UC,
First off all no to the reference to the 6 gods. These are human gods, and it wouldnt make sense for a char to be wielding Grenths greatsword.
Also, 114 is too many. The power off the löegendaryis that they took a lot of time to design them, make them detailed, make the effects detailed, give them special animations and so. This would be impossible with such an amount of weapons to have such an amount of details (keep in mind many off the legendary’s still have some minor bugs in the animations and we are a year in).
I would say to limit it to three weapons per weapontype. So the same as greatswords. Two legendary’s and one ‘super’ legendary you can make by combining the first two.

Yes, but they’re meaningless. Some may look cool, but there is no sense in wielding the “best” if it doesn’t even relate to Guild Wars.
Edit
Also, wiki.guildwars2.com says, “Humans often refer to the pantheon as the Six Gods or simply the Six. Other races most commonly refer to them as Human Gods”. Doesn’t necessarily mean that they deny the Gods existance.
(But let’s please not get into a religion debate.)
Also, according to the wiki, “There are still some places where you can see the old models” (God Statues). It goes on to list the locations of the god’s statues. So, they are a part of the game, regardless of race. The other races don’t really go into detail about their beliefs. I’m just trying to make these “legendaries” meaningful.
Thanks for the feedback tho.

Well, just say that I would be offended as a lore lover if they would be tied to the 6 gods.
The char have no gods! (as we know from gw1)
The Norn believe in the spirits of the wild
The Silvari live according to their dream and Ventari’S tablet
The Asura’s believe in the eternal alcehemy. The ancient statues are all placed there by humans. the other races dont deny the ‘gods’ being powerfull but they just dont see them as gods.
Thats why it would be offensive to go that way. Thinking bout it that way, having lore neutral names and backgrounds for them makes sense.

But you agree that legendary weapons should be meaningful; and, currently, make no sense?
This is embarrassing that this isn’t getting much attention. People must like shooting rainbows and unicorns.
Since you bumped it, I’ll bite.
I like that some weapons are less serious than most. I think the human gods are played up enough already. A complete set of each theme would downplay the special quality of each legendary weapon. Weapons with disctinct personalities create or imply new stories behind them, whereas “Legendary Greatsword of Balthazar” adds very little development to existing lore.
People always latch onto the Dreamer as being ridiculous, and it is— But I think that’s okay. It, Quip, and the Moot, as silly as they are, provide something fun for the players who enjoy something a little silly, just like the toy weapons from Wintersday last year or the floppy sword from this Halloween. I get that being a drag if you use a pistol or shortbow and don’t like the silly ones, but do want a legendary, but I think the option is good on the whole, considering the serious options.
As for the proposed idea, I’m afraid I don’t like it. If there’s a full set of weapons for each deity theme, each individual weapons feels less special, because it’s just like the eighteen other weapons in that set, and similar to the other 113 legendary weapons.
If I see Meteorlogicus, or Sunrise, or, heck, even Quip out in the wild, I can speculate on a story behind them. Their idiosyncrasies provide a kickstart to the imagination: Who was the first hero to wield The Judgement? How did The Flameseeker Prophecies go from being a book to being a powerful talisman in a shield? What party did the Moot come from, and how can I get there?
If it’s just one in a set, the story seems to be “Here was an ancient weapon, blessed/gifted by <deity> in the days of Arah.” That’s okay, but we have so much else dealing with the human gods that I prefer the vivid personalities of the limited number of weapons. They’re fewer, but they’re far more distinct. There are implied legends, implied heroes, that you just don’t get with set weapons, generally.
For an example, see the ascended weapons. I like the lore connection, much as I like the lore connection in a lot of ascended trinkets, but I’m also a little disappointed in how the connection works when it’s spread across so many weapons. I’m excited that there are Tybalt weapons, but I’m confused that there’s a Tybalt staff/warhorn/focus/etc., because there’s just no connection there. It’s not as special that way. (Though I get why they did it, of course, and don’t disagree with it.)
And then there’s just the practicality of it. So few players earn legendary weapons that if there is a complete set for each deity, that’s a lot of artwork going to waste. I’d rather see a distinct, alternative option for each of the existing legendaries than see each one rounded out into a set.
This is embarrassing that this isn’t getting much attention. People must like shooting rainbows and unicorns.
Perhaps you should riff on Quip instead. A bow that shoots Unicorns that explode into more Unicorns that also explode. Also Vikings made rainbows BA.
Also to say none of the weapons make reference to lore is a falsehood. The shield is named after the prophecy you fulfill in Prophesies. The torch makes reference to Rodgort, an unknown mage who developed a series of elementalist skills.
I’d like to see more legendaries, especially ones that make references to lore; but I wouldn’t want to see full sets serialized to a specific subject. Their uniqueness to one another is one of the things that sets them apart.

Legendaries should mean something? … your suggesting they be … legendary?
(edited by Korossive.7085)
by the way united chaos don’t know if this was said but I personally use the legendary shield and it definitely does tie in with the guild wars lore, its called Flame Seeker Prophecies which were the compiled prophecies of Glint(former Glaust) of guild wars 1 prophecies.
Karl Marx: “Go away! Last words are for fools who haven’t said enough!”
I’d prefer there were just alternatives to the silly ones, like shadow-and-ice pistols as opposed to Quip, or a flail/flanged mace/something along those lines as opposed to The Moot.
Personally, I like mercury ranique’s idea of having the 3 options per weapon class, perhaps a “serious” option that truly looks like a formidable weapon, a “lighter” option for those who like a little more silly in their character and a combined super option for the ultra-hardcore.
Yes, their “uniqueness” sets them apart; and, yes, I agree that there should be some “fun” skins. But having legendaries shout rainbows and unicorns is just, well, lame. Make those “fun” skins ascended which you can choose to craft. Make the Legendaries serious, and meaningful.
OK, I admit that some about two legendaries have ties to previous GW1 lore. We can now say two legendaries mean something, fantastic. -.-
I don’t see why people keep bashing the whole human God idea either. Having the legendary weapons tie in with the gods of Tyria seems to be a fantastic way of tying the lore to the legendaries. Maybe you’re right have the legendaries tie in with other lore like prophecies, for example. Hey, I’m only tossing out ideas here.
While more weapons is always a good idea, would rather have them just put back in design weapon contests or let us dye most weapons. Making legendaries tied into lore is good, but cant be completely focused around the human gods.

It seems I’m not alone.
Heck I cant even count how many legendaries i see everyday. They are just another weapon to me now, same with commander tags, there are hundreds of “commanders” but only a small few that deserve it

Agreed. I was following one around Frostgorge Sound the other night and other than having the tag he was not a leader of any sort. There was no waiting for the zerg to get to the champ and quite often the champ was dead before half the zerg got there. As a commander it should have been his responsibility to keep the zerg in check. …and he was rude, to boot.
Getting off topic. Back to the topic we go.
