Legendary Weapon Cost/Stats
No. You get the legendary item for the skin not the stats.

I second this. It’s cosmetic, nothing else.
Yeah, the Legendary weapons are there as a way for people to consume large amounts of wealth/time for bragging rights.
Its basically there for the guys who absolutely must have the best available at any cost and have the lifelessness to do it.
Have you played Guild Wars 1 ?
Your notice the stats on the weapons and armors are the same, lots of armor and weapons that look good and costs a lot.
So welcome to Guild Wars 2 where the gear is equal, but looks come with a cost, or like someone has already said “the bragging rights”.

Well to be fair, going from Normal → Uncommon → Masterwork → Rare → Exotic there is a considerable jump in power. Much more so than GW1.
Yes, I played Guild Wars 1. And I too am a fanboy of GW and support most of Anet’s decisions.
However, there is a seemingly large factor that is being overlooked here. The purely aesthetic upgrade system in Guild Wars 1 served to preserve a PvP balance. In GW 2, this whole PvP aspect that requires this pristine balance has been completely separated from the PvE portion of the game. That being said, there is no reason why PvE players who have worked hard for a year to earn a legendary item should have their reward diminished simply because a PvP balance must be preserved. Arenanet has succeeded in making the two mutually exclusive so they should also consider introducing the perks that can be added and improvements that can be made due to this successful separation.
Guild Wars 1 had white weapons, with bad stats I believe.
But still legendaries should remain the same stats, overwise legendaries might ending up being a requirement.
Thinking about it, some of those items in Gw1 was quite costly for just looks, no stat differences yet players were going out their way to get them.

Yeah any and all investment of time is equal to having no life. Good work.

Reading comprehension FTW ladies and gents!
Never said that people won’t get there eventually given enough time. Anyone can get there given enough time. This mechanic was put in the game so that people who care so much about grinding gear that they spend TONS of time on the game getting it have something a little more difficult to go after. Those people, yes, usually have no life outside of the game.
No, talking to your “friends” on Ventrilo doesn’t count as socializing (not you personally Tradewind…just in case you misread that one).

What’s missing? You outright said that legendaries only exist for people who need to have the best and have the “lifelessness” to achieve it. If you had intended something else perhaps you should have worded it better?
Had you said the people who already have it completed are no lifers, you might be on to something there, but that wouldn’t really apply to the person who spends the next 6 months crafting it at their leisure. Just something to consider.
If you make legendaries have better stats, then you need to make them as easy to get as exotics are now because people would be required to get them and everyone would be grinding for them. Or quitting the game because it’s too boring to grind for that sh… er, kitten.
At the moment you are intended to have max stat gear with a small amount of effort after level 80.
If you gave legendaries the best stats then you would need to remove one of the previous tiers of gear from the game, probably the current exotic set, and then…
…you’d just be back to the situation we have now, which is 5 tiers of gear, but with more grinding.
Legendaries are a status symbol. That’s it.
Also, they are better than Exotics. But only to the extent that a level 78 exotic is less good than a level 80 Exotic.
Not much.

@Illushia
The difference between level 78 and 80 exotics is all I ask for. Unfortunately, at the moment that is not the case. Legendaries right now have the exact same stats as level 80 Exotics.
That’s not what I’ve seen.
The Legendary that someone managed to link had more weapon damage and a few more stats.
