NO TLDR

Im Grim Jr a player from Blackgate and currently a student taking Game Development and working to be a Game Designer..

Now firstly this is purely a suggestion not a demand / whine /rant etc.
as the topic title states this is a suggestion for a new way of getting a legendary. Right now the only way to get a legendary is via farming and luck and maybe a little prayer to the RNG Gods.

How will this be different from the current way of obtaining a legendary? in many ways! this new way would take most aspects of the game into account and increase server activity! This way your character will truly be a legend!

NOTE: This will NOT replace the old way of getting a Legendary the old way will be there and still be the same this is simply an alternative to getting it.

To claim your legendary you must first become a legend!!

Requirements:
100% World completion
Story Mode completed
Must be a Commander – READ COMMANDER REVAMP
10-20 or Max rank up in Spvp
5000 – 7000 Achievement points*
300 – 500 hours of game time (/age) on the character* or 200 Laurel’s
Full exotic gear
All Dungeon story modes completed
2 maxed crafting professions

upon completion of these requirements you will talk to an npc or just be prompted that you have achieved the rank of legend and be awarded with 1 Legendary weapon.

upside:
will actually encourage people to do things around the world.
will make some parts of the game more useful (Achievement points)
will increase WvWvW activity
will increase Spvp activity
dungeon story mode will actually be completed
all dungeons will be visited at least once.
No use of RNG Exotics can be obtained by crafting
Eliminates a small portion of grinding

downside:
more legendary weapons in the servers (not sure if it’s a downside but some people don’t like this idea)

REVAMPS:

Commander revamp
the Commander insignia must be removed from all current commanders and the 100g returned and new requirements will be placed.

100-300 hours logged in WvWvW

*has completed 5 WvWvW Achievements or 100g (seems 5 WvWvW Achievements is kinda hard so maybe the 100g will still be required instead)

- this way there is some indication that the commander is a notable WvWvW participant / player rather than just some guy with 100g

Achievement points in WvWvW Revamp
Achievement points should be revamped and given some nice group achievements aswell as server achievements

Stonemist castle – A server that holds stonemist castle for 3 – 5 days will be rewarded with 1,500 points for the entire server can only be achieved once a month
Stonemist castle – A server that takes stonemist castle will receive 500 points for all those who participated can only be achieved once a week

-this will further heighten the thrill of playing in WvWvW not to mention the epic battles for stonemist castle. As well as aid you in getting your legendary weapon

REMEMBER This are all purely suggestions!! None of this may be implemented in the future.

NOTES:
Fractals may be placed but a great sum of players do not want to do fractals so I decided not to put it for now.
AGAIN THIS IS AN ALTERNATIVE AND IS NOT SUPPOSE TO REPLACE THE ORIGINAL WAY.

Needing to be a commander in order to get a legendary is a very bad idea. Not everyone plays WvW/sPVP or even cares about it.

While commanders need to be completely redone, this is not the way to do it. It just makes it another fancy title to show that you play WvW a lot. It needs to be earned, but not like this. I agree with everything but 2 points, (I also posted something like this in a different thread)
1 sPvP – unless you’d also get the skin unlocked somehow in sPvP this should not be here.
2. Commander (no). Just put a requirement like 500 or 1000 or even 2000 badges. (People will either farm the puzzle for a lot (boring and tedious but acceptable) or actually help his server and finish faster.)

you don’t need to be a commander to get a legendary again this is an alternative..

the theme is you have to be a legend! and even in the story you become Commander of the pact..

Yes, I’m more like 50/50 with this, and I’ll tell you why. If I’d ever get a legendary that required sPvP I’d like to have the skin there too. The thing about sPvP is that one can virtually enjoy all content in PvE without ever going to sPvP.
IF you can bring you legendary in WvW, and it also required x badges or something else WvW related, you should be able to bring it in sPvP as well since it would be unfair. IE: “Why should I be forced to sPvP when I can’t even show off my legendary in it”

well primarily yes that would be an issue.. and maybe you can equip your legendary as a skin in pvp or so but this is more of a achievement there’s the problem with the people these days.. you won’t test things out just because there is no reward leaving you and a piece of gameplay unexplored. and tbh doing a little pvp to get Glory (not Glory points) to earn your Legendary for WvWvW or PvE is not bad if you think about it. say you know this and your not that big of a pvp’er you can go do the original way or you can simply try it out.. test the waters you’ll never know if you like it if you haven’t tried it.

This is very interesting. But why not have two legendary weapons which is base on pve and SPvP/WvW. Make sure that you can only Achieve only one of them. So for people who enjoy spvp/wvw can have their own legendary, and those that complete the pve story can also have their own legendary too. But you have to make it that so that for those that enjoy but both have to choice which of the legendary they want, since they can only have one.

The push to make people join spvp and wvw could be nice in theory, however many people want to just explore pve. Now you said the old system would stay but truthfully I think the old system should be revamped before adding other options. No part of this game should feel like a grind, none. Legendaries, although completely optional, are something pve players usually work towards in the end when they got nothing left to do. It isn’t soo much about the skin(tons of people already have them, not so unique anymore and they can be bought with gold :/) its about having a legendary in general. Feeling like you accomplished something worthwhile but I havn’t worked towards one yet because of the way it currently is.

I like the idea of personal story completion, story dungeon completion, maxed crafting disciples and the achievment points. However log on hours could jsut lead to ppl goin afk for numerous times, exotic gear well doesn’t really make much sense and it is really really easy to get (unless you meant full 80 exotic) and 200 laurels… I’d rather get the cat and all my ascended necklaces with that much laurels instead of a legendary. But thats just me.

All in all, anything beats the current legendary aquisition method anet has installed…

well the exotic gear is just for show like that way people will have to atleast gear up the toon the log on hours are ambiguous and can be completed while doing everything else i’ve been playing for 39 days and im already at 390 hours on my 1st toon. even afk’ing is fine if your aiming for it but really instead of afk’ing you can do achievements im not really sure how long 5000 -7000 achievement points will take though. I chose log in hours instead of the 200 laurels because laurels can be used for something much more than just legendaries basically 600 hours for a casual player will take about 4-5 months which is almost the same amout of time you have to spend in creating a legendary in the original way UNLESS you are extremely lucky.

Your ideas are awful. I’d rather be forced to get 5 Precursors than have to play more WvW beyond the 500 Badges to get my Legendary or be forced to get a Commander scout badge that I’d hate to have attached to my character. Not to mention the requirement you listed more or less remove the hardest parts of the grind making Legendaries much more approachable and not nearly as rare and legendary.

Did u know that to get wvwvw achieve u need alot of kills, yakslaper 1.000.000 dolyaks kills, Realm Defender 2.500.000 Supply used, some of the other achievement we don’t even know how many caps we need, so the 5 wvwvw achievements is not a good idea, the other thing time 300-500 hour of playing, so u want make legendaries for ppl who play all day. 5k achievement point, (achievement * item?), holding SM for 3 day hahaha yeah come to T1 and try to do that.

300 500 hours of play aren’t much really. You’ll get 300 hours just by playing the game and completing all the other requirments

This is not a korean mmorpg, where grind is at the base of everything (and ANet keeps saying they don’t like it either). We don’t want to mindless grind like a robot for weeks/months.
Anet could always decide that all the above requirments are just to get the precursor and not the legendary. Thus you need all the above stuff for your precrusor, then you’ll need the other gifts that are currently present. I think this would be the best actually.
You get the precursor just by playing the game and all it’s aspects. THEN you start racking up the materials to upgrade your precursor into a Legendary.
It really isn’t about the item, it’s more about the trip to get there.

WvW is part of PvE somehow. You lvl up in PvE, get max weapons then you go in WvW. Map completion requires WvW

Whats the reason to hold SM for 3-5 days, if you could just cooperate with other servers and switch SM 30 times a day – that would give each server 10 times a day → 5000 achievement points a day

No more WvWvW on Eternal map… just Cooping for more achievements.

As for other points/changes – everybody would “have to” be commander, in a week or two community would chosen map/server for farming WvW, for example eternal map with rules: no keep defending, no tower defending, badges farming – no self heal zones,

p.s. we have enough farming of “badge of jumping” into Legendary.

You do not need to be a commander to get it! THIS IS AN ALTERNATIVE!!

the alternative is obviously to remove the GRIND itself and instead reward the player for doing various things it maybe a grind aswell but atleast it’s not mob farming all month

Yea I pretty much thought of this too that the WvWvW Achievements were too much and maybe it would be better off without the Achievements and just the hours and maybe the 100g aswell

is blackgate considered T1? if not then i’ve never tried in T1 servers and from what i see in BG the only reason people can’t hold off Stonemist is because the lack of people. nothing drives pve/spvp people to play WvWvW it’s useless to them aswell as holding stonemist castle doesn’t give off any significant advantage or reward but with this it will atleast give something off

I’ve pretty much thought of that aswell where other servers will have coop for such things which is kinda sad.. meaning most people really only do WvWvW for such things? IF and only IF people don’t do this then don’t you think it will be a little more fun? your thinking is irrational most servers compete for the best well right now that’s what I see in Kaineng vs Blackgate .. seriously what losers would stop WvWvW for achievement points?

SM is a perfect place to hold a massive defense the reason why the whole server would get it is because stonemist is huge and assuming no coop will be made they will need all the manpower they can get to defend it. it’s the best place for 2 reasons aswell
1. It’s in the middle of the Eternal Battlegrounds
2. It’s the largest capturable castle in the entire battlegrounds

perhaps it still isn’t clear to some THIS IS AN ALTERNATIVE THE ORIGINAL METHOD WILL NOT BE REMOVED MEANING NONE OF THIS IS NEEDED AND IS PURELY OPTIONAL!

Sorry, I’ll list some requirements that exists atm, using Bifrost as an example.

The Legend: Basically requires you to advance towards the golden achievement.
Gift of Bifrost:
-100 Icy Runestones (100g)
-Superior Sigil of Nullification
-Gift of Colort – Maxed Chef, 250 unidentified dyes, 250 Piles of Crystalline Dust, 100 Opal Orbs, Gift of Zhaitan (500 Dungeon Tokens)
-Gift Of Energy, Maxed Artificer 4 full stacks of various dusts

Gift of Mastery
-100% Exploration (For Gift of Exploration)
-500 Badges of Honor
-200 Skill Points
-525,000 Karma, 3,750 Fractal Relics or 250 Laurels

Gift of Fortune
-77 Mystic Clover (Obsidian Shard, Mystic Coin, Glob of Ectoplasm, 6 Philosopher’s stone per chance for one, on average, you need to try 231 times)
-250 Glob of Ectoplasm
-Gift of Magic (4 full stacks of tier 6 components)
-Gift of Might (Another 4 full stacks of tier 6 components)

So, you can see there was quite a bit of stuff dropped (that required no RNG whatsoever, or the RNG was at reasonable level) from that list of requirements compared to this suggestion. The stuff replacing this list of requirements was:

Already there:
100% World completion
Story Mode completed (up to level 72 quest is needed for world completion)
2 maxed crafting professions

Replacement suggestions (for the alternative path):
Must be a Commander – READ COMMANDER REVAMP
-Why would we want everyone to be a commander? Being a commander needs no extra incentive. We want only those committed to the WvW community to be commanders anyways, even if acquiring the rank was tied to being afk for 300 hours in the WvW.
10-20 or Max rank up in Spvp
-Trivial, if we wanted to make a requirement like this, do something like 40. But still, it doesn’t seem to have any logical meaning in acquiring a weapon.
5000 – 7000 Achievement points
-Well, requirements like this make it easier to acquire subsequent legendaries. I’m not sure if that is a good thing.
300 – 500 hours of game time (/age) on the character or 200 Laurel’s*
-Trivial. 300 hours are easily clocked while trying to acquire all the various components needed to turn a precursor in the legendary using the original method. Besides, why would we want to force people to AFK on their characters?
Full exotic gear
-Irrelevant in acquiring a weapon. Armor you wear makes it easier to gather components, but shouldn’t be a req. Not to mention it’s somewhat easier than dying your gear.
All Dungeon story modes completed
-It might be difficult to find a party to do the storymodes with. Probably the most frustrating part of this req.

I don’t mind there being alternative methods, but the level of difficulty needs to be roughly the same for other methods.

People who can argue often offer a good and meaningful conversation about the subject.
People who can’t tend to call the opponent troll, scream something utterly incomprehensible
and finally result to personal insults.
