I come from Baruch Bay [SP] and checking some spanish community forums I found some anoyance with the commander icon in the minimap, mostly in PvE and LA.

Since everything in the minimap can be hide (vendors, waypoints, etc), the commander icon CAN’T. A lot of arguments goes around trying to coordinate resource runs or pve big events, and thats useful only if I take part on them (which is not the case).

So most of the complains I found are related that the only chance for a PvE-er to hide those icons (that overlap any other icon) is to bypass the commander ego by asking him politely to hide his status. Which is unlikely the case, because they like to show it up 24/7 (I would if I could too).

To sum up… ANet, could we get an option to hide Commander icons as we can do with other icons on the minimap, at least in PvE? It would also make sense to disable it for PvP.

The profit will come from both parts:
PvE-ers will see what they want to see in the minimap.
Commanders won’t get anoying whispers telling them to shutdown their status.

tl;dr: ANet, pretty please, could we get an option to hide commander icons in the minimap?

¿Really? Is that the kind of respect we can expect from the commanders? What impression do you think we have about them with that attitude?

That “small thing” you say, we cannot avoid, it shows up no matter how far in the map the commanders are, and hides every other useful information we need for our gameplay, at least in PvE maps or even citys and events.

What we are proposing is a way to hide them while we are playing, given the fact that, let’s say, half of the commanders don’t care about bothering PvE players.

you completely missed his sarcasm. He was joking.

Also, he was saying that, in the grand scheme of things, he hopes that the commander actually gets removed. But if the commanders won’t be removed, then this feature is the perfect feature, despite how little it is compared to removing the commander all together.

i have to agree with the op. getting the commander title is nice and all, however in the general pve zones it has no place or function and therefore shouldn’t be marked on any mini map or otherwise.

I would like to put an example that I found in the spanish forums. Hope you can see clearly how anoying can comanders became in PvE.

And we are on our 2nd month since launch.

I wish I could vote this up a zillion times. I’m glad that the commander is there. It’s REALLY useful in WvW.

But when I’m in PvE, even with the group events, it is simply NOT necessary (and HIGHLY annoying) to see that there’s a commander who’s all the way on the other side of the map.

I’d LOVE the default for the commander icon to be off while in PvE – even if you leave it on by necessity in WvW.

Once everyone in the game has purchased this and shows up on the map it will be much easier to manage your WvW strategy.

I have genuinely found it useful if there’s a commander in my guild online when we’re doing a large scale event (I should add that I mostly PVE and am not a commander myself). Especially when there are latecomers who can then meet up quickly without any fuss. That said, I completely understand that if they are getting in the way of waypoints or nodes, it could be annoying. So everyone should be able to hide commander icons, whenever they want. That way everyone’s happy.
