Let us be evil
This is actually a good idea.
Eh I am not in on the option to be evil bad guy. But adding some grey to the goody good all the time.
grey all the way
This is why I love factional games. Each faction usually designates the opposition as the evil that needs to be eradicated. Even better when there are quest that actually makes you do things that are morally questionable.
or
Gives you the option to take different paths.
For all of the things I didn’t like about SWTOR, a shining victory to me was the fact that they gave me many opportunities to to do the wrong thing while being either faction. I would like to see more MMO’s take that route with dark/light path walking options. That’s the one thing I always like(d) about bioware products.
The game, its lore and story are absolutely not made for this.
Absolutely disagree with that idea.
If you want to have evil characters, just to beat up somer NPCs, then wait until Anet finally introduces the Minigame of Bar Brawls as it should have been normally already in the game from begin on and with it, you can smash up as many innocent NPCs as you like to make yourself feel as much evil as you want >.>
Charismatics doesn’t effect the characters at all, that is the problem.

I agree with this. I could definitely see this adding more color to the game.
Let Us Join The Dark Side Of Tyria!!!
Well the concept of evil is mostly due to lack of understanding the otherside of things, i would love the option to explore the nightmare court as a sylvari, or join ranks in the inquest as an asura, perhaps stand by the flaming legion, or delve into the svanirs territory, or walk amongst, erm bandits, whitemantle or side with the separatist.
In some ways it just feels like they brainwash your character, “these are enemies, go slay.”.
Maybe that’s just me.
For this, the Whisperer missions should been contain “Undercover” kind of missions.
Bang Bang Miss Miss

@ZidZabre
once a sylvari falls into Nightmare, there’s no going back, it’s an one way trip to villainy
Perhaps the only RP-oriented guild on the server
Main Character: Farathnor (sylvari ranger) 1 of 22
I would love this, i would go evil without a doubt. they should SO do this. They could have it as a start up for an expansion that splits the races into factions that go to war over some amazing new power/weapon that could change the world forever.
It doesnt matter what the lore of the past is or anything. They could so easily change it up for the future, Of course we all know this wont happen. Why is that? Because it requires WORK and so far Anet have shown that they don’t like work.
They would rather have small and mostly useless “content” patches every few weeks that really adds nothing to the game but is easy to do and requires very little work.
you’d rather have them ignore the lore to accommodate your affinity for evil chars?
yeah… lets not go to Camelot after all, sounds like a silly place

It’s not as if all the lore would go out thw window. They need to do something, The game is becoming VERY, VERY, VERY stale…
I see no reason for lore to be changed for people to act evil. I mean…everybody in the game kills on a daily basis, is this really much of a stretch?
we eat orphans for breakfast and kick old ladies for lunch !
we are the evil guild pay us 1 million dollars !
I’m a Thief.
Lord Faren has shinies.
These must be MY shinies.

If GW2 had the TOR story mode (including the mechanics) it would almost be the perfect game on my book.
And I would like to see GW2 go on the gray path buuuuuut that could mean duel in PvE which is a big no no for Anet.
I mean think about it:
Players on the human side defending settlements.
Players on the centaur side trying to get their land back.
Who wins? Who ever kills the NPCs faster because you can’t touch other players?
Personally I think rather than enphasis the good vs evil trope what they need to do is make “personality” tropes more significant.
I am quite fond of being the bad guy myself but I personally see the logic as to why being a muahahahaa world destroying maniac is not a good thing. I like to think that its more a matter of “how” you save the world than “saving” the world.
Using the personality traits would be a good way to make questionable decisions more obvious e.g. using ferocious choices to send men to their death since survival of the strongest is the best dogma, or using dignity in both a good and bad way, representing diplomatic and somewhat cold logic of leaving men to die at a critical moment to save many more.
I think it should be that you aren’t good or evil but a culmination of both, you are a hero, a hero that can be “both” sides of the coin, you are saving the world, be it for your own life’s sake, your glory, or your mercy towards others, but you are saving the world one way or another.
Why not introduce a couple of “evil” races and sort of have it as like a factions sort of era, just races that are on a different path ones that hate the other races. They might also want the end of the dragons as they seem them as the biggest threat but at the same time they hate the other races.
They could introduce new or existing races that have been in the past at war with the current races OR they could even introduce a WHOLE new set of races maybe something to do with some technology that rips open a rift between the 2 dimensions or worlds or something and the ones on the other side may not actually be “evil” but see the ones on this side the Human, Charr and such as a threat as they perceive as them starting an attack or something
I know all that with “no going back” with joining the Nightmare Court. But id REALLY love a story going from inside the nightmare court if only partially. Like. Our characters have already gotten the part in the story, of being the one individual who can win where others loose. So maybe make it possible for our Sylvari to become free of the Court but with consequences? Like other sylvari being less trusting of you and maybe some effects on ones connection to the dream? I would just love the option since i can make my Sylvari look really evil but in story she’s just good.

In one of the first interviews devs stated that they were thinking about such option. On the end they decided that most player prefer being hero. It would be interesting but will also mean twice as much story and missions. Considering how now some of elements seems rushed I don’t think it would do any good for the game in a long run.
From a role playing perspective, the addition of instance version of each areas for groups of players where all npc are yellow would allow for greater freedom in character development. It would allow you to go anyway and choose who to side with when dynamic events have started. However as an actual in game mechanic I do not think it would be viable or a good use of resources
I feel it a problem that we need to be “Voulenteer Heroes” in most of MMO&RPG games… Would be fun and revolutionary if we can move out from this state.
But that one is right; for a normal quality of story, it can’t really have more than one line, and AN did good job on choosing methoods of the orders.

I’m totally for this but before this we need an update on the Personal Stories~~which to my knowledge have been silent these days.. :*(

Im totally for this idea, would be similar to Fable was, you can be good or evil, the way you act could determine how NPC would view you and if they sell anything to you. Take over a Village on a Map, and other "Heros’ can fight to free that village, creating your own type of DE. being able to target NPC (or may even other players) in Map Areas for a type of prize. but doing this will make you wanted for a bounty as well, with a type of red tag, make you a Target for a Prize. (May never happen, but fun to think about)
Im sure there are would be flaws in doing this idea, and ways are needed to prevent grieving, and ways to prevent “Evil players”from harassing other players. but I sure it would be worth the trouble.
