Limit transfers to once every two weeks or make transfers take 2 weeks and 2 days to go through (there is a difference). What both systems accomplish is force people to play at least 2 matches (under the current system) before being able to transfer. If they lost heavily during the first, they are forced to stick around for the second match. If that second match goes better than the first, they are less likely to transfer. Doing this will also give ANET better data about population trends and their ranking system to allow them to incentivize people to transfer servers to get a better time zone spread across all servers. Of course, before ANET can do that the guesting system has to work

Limiting transfers hurt PvE players, so any solution should address the needs of PvE and WvW The 1x/day cap means I can no longer play with friends who have guilds on different worlds, as was possible during the first few weeks.

If the issue is increasing stability for WvW, then how about limiting the benefits of people who jump worlds.

  • They get no Power of the Mists from any world until the matches reset.
  • They cannot play WvW from the two worlds competing against their original server.

This prevents griefing and spying, while allowing people to look for WvW servers with reduced queuing time. It also has little impact on PvE.

And it’s completely compatible with guesting.

Free transfers are necessary still because populations aren’t evenly spread out. If you stop free transfers now, then the current zerg servers stay zergy. It doesn’t fix anything, it just makes the current ranking more permanent.

What needs of PvE players are hurt by increasing the wait time to transfer servers? None, because PvE player populations are already stabilized. The idea isn’t to prevent spying (its useless anyways TBH) or greifing. Its to stop people from leaving servers because the server they left lost or because they want to only play on winning servers, and to stop guilds from only playing against low ranking servers. With this implemented, its less likely that WvW populations and ranking will be in constant flux, while still allowing for people stuck on servers with large que times to transfer fairly easily. IMO, a person is less likely to leave if one week their server does poorly, but the next their server does well or at least better. Limiting transfers to 2 weeks in some way should result in that.

Then, once the guesting system is implemented, ANET can incentivize guilds and players to join less populated servers based on time zone. For instance, coaxing some Oceanic players from SoS into switching to I don’t know, Fort Aspeenwood, to better distribute Oceanic player times. Doing this will lead to better matches for both Fort Aspeenwood and SoS. With the guesting system implemented, those players won’t be negatively affected when they want to PvE since they can guest back to SoS and still get the benefits from WvW
