Instead of holding down right button to move camera, it will be nice to have an option that will make mouse move camera as default, and use i.e. right button to enter/exit “Point’n’Click” mode . Also, that way the left mouse button will be useable for any keybinding .

I agree with this, I was about to post a thread about this but I found yours so, why bother. I’ll just post here what I wanted to post in my thread.

“Over the Shoulder” Camera Option

What I mean is using your mouse to move your character and the camera, like Third-Person Shooters. (I don’t remember correctly what this mechanic is called but, it doesn’t have to be over the shoulder it can be just behind the character.)

I don’t know if you are familiar with the MMORPG called “RaiderZ” but in RaiderZ they have this mechanic and it makes gameplay so much easier and less painful for your hand.

In Guild Wars 2 I use the right mouse button to both look around the environment AND to target enemies. Problem is, I have to do this ALL THE TIME and my hand gets pretty strained from it not to mention my finger. :L

So, Arena Net, if you can, not saying soon but in the near future please add this as an option, I would be forever greatful!

I’m totally in support of this, Its a pain to have to attempt to move, turn and attack all at the same time from the keyboard, or having to have another click thrown into the situation to allow me to look around during a fight.

I just spent about a half hour scouring the options menu looking for this very thing. Here’s hoping they add this feature! I’d love it

I would like both the “over the head” and “over the shoulder” view options. For me I prefer “over the head” in TPS shooters because it doesn’t limit my view.

I like the idea but how would you point and click things? Menu, inventory, enemies, npc’s, etc.

I think they may not implement this because of similarity to TERA Rising. This system is used there, and I think they don’t want to make GW2 similar to any existing game.

There’s special modification, which I don’t want to link here (it’s 50/50 ok with terms of use in GW2) which allow such movement. Just search mods for GW2 and you will find it, there’s even official e-mail from A-net about what they think about such modifications.

DDO has this and the setting in effect reverse the right click function. If you want to click something in game, you hold down the right mouse button to get a pointer. It will also automatically turn on the pointer if a window or dialog comes on screen.

It also throws a small reticule on screen when active, allowing you to interact with objects and NPCs by putting that near them.

Interestingly they have also made the default attack such that you hold the left mouse button to continue swinging rather than the GW2 lock on and auto attack.

Heh, as i think about it there is also a dodge roll in there. But to activate it you have to hit the block key and then a direction key. And yes, the block is in effect as long as the key is held down.

People are already using software to make their camera behave like that, technically it isn’t a mod because it doesn’t modify or access GW2 data in any way, it just rebinds their hotkeys on the computer. It also doesn’t really give you an advantage in any way, so there is no reason why it would be bannable.

This is a wonderful idea, it seems we’re slowly inching our way towards more viable controller support. +Bump.

This all fall under the control/targetting system remake that is sorely needed. Yes please, get rid of right-mouse button selecting things! Leave it for the camera only!

i Support this Idea, however i’d like it to be optional. I’m personally fine with controls the way they are right now, but there no reason not to have an option that will suit other players.

You can make or get a ready make macro for this, prema-right-click.
As for not being and unfair advantage which could lead to suspension or ban, that’s a gray area, I’d definitely not tell people here it’s ok to use any software like that.

I’d support the click on/off since it really takes a toll on the wrist having a finger pressing all the time.

I really would like to have that option as well as I’m always having to adjust the camera for going up hills or going down them, when you get downed the camera has you pointing to the ground and have to adjust back to where you were originally. This would be tremendously helpful and cramp-free.

With the pointer there once the camera lock has been activated you can still make it a tab style target where you can still look around but at least be in the general area of sight for your attacks to hit. I know how frustrating it can be to have to aim at a target when there are others swarming you and would help out with the targeting system.

I know people really want first person and if the aspect of having the lock mouse pointer for the camera may seem a bit too much how about a terrain following camera so you can at least alleviate the need to constantly change the camera angle to see enemies. It would help out immensely with being able to get the jump on the enemies instead of the other way around.
