I was just doing personal story on my necromancer and I had to take out 2 risen abominations and I have to say… the Frenzy stat needs fixing, at least that’s what I think it is. I was defeated at least 7 – 8 times in a row within 10 – 15 seconds each time even with minions and kitting & dodging like mad. They DPS way too well with this stat + with the knockdowns coming in a split second rather than 2 seconds, it’s a problem. If they had reset each time (which thank goodness they didn’t), it would have been utterly ridiculous to beat.

Please let me know what you think. I was really taken aback by the DPS dished out so much that I wrote this post literally right after I beat the abominations. I look forward to the feedback on this.

I’ve not had much problem with Abominations on any of my characters.

After figuring out what their version of Frenzy did (Other risen have a Frenzy with similar icon but different effects) I learned to focus them down as quickly as possible before they get stupid high stacks.

The fact that they can’t hit you if you kite them with some Cripple/Chill makes them still killable when at 25 stacks, provided you have enough room and a weapon set that can provide some ranged damage and some way of crippling (Most classes do)

I kind of wish that the Frenzy would dissipate if they’re not attacking for a while though, can be quite annoying to walk up to an event and face an abomination with 25 stacks (Through hitting NPC’s)

From what I can tell from your screenshot, it looks like the NPCs were to blame. Frenzy shouldn’t go up when hitting NPCs who are to “stupid” too dodge.

I can do thirty Five-Dolyak Arm Curls.

I agree that mission was lame. Having an invincible NPC is only good for buffing up the abominations before they target you. I beat it by laying traps then running up the stairs and jumping off over and over. I didn’t have enough blind or evasion to kill them otherwise.

In that image, looks like Agent Ihan is just watching, thinking to himself “Sucks to be you.” :P

I think a change is required either to the duration of their frenzy or so that NPCs can’t give them frenzy stacks. Basically, those things should be able to sit at max frenzy for long, IMO.

If you look closer it is lion guard williams. He was invincible when i played and was a frenzy stacker for them. If you didn’t kill them right off, they would build up to max frenzy with a 60s duration on it. When they are that juiced up they one hit kill any of the other guards.

I have had some trouble with Abominations on my Necro myself, I found it best to just run around in a circle with staff equipped putting down AoEs as I run around. If you want you can use 5 to put fear into them and turn around to hit them with 1, other wise you should always have your back turned to them as to give you the fastest run speed.

And of course that is only necessary if you are being targeted, if they’re hitting someone else just stand clear and attack like normal.

Can’t fear them because fo the unstoppable buff they have unless that was changed recently. I think in theory the frenzy buff is fine, but in practice not so much. In theory, assuming by whatever stroke of bad luck or sloppy dodging has led them to get max stacks, there would be a timer that would make them daze themselves and the frenzy stacks would reset. In reality this does not happen. They can go on nearly forever like juiced up patchwork Schwarzneggers and just continue to 1 shot everything in their path. While this is rarely an issue with the regular aboms (fairly certain they drastically lowered their hp and defense recently because I can now rip their hp down faster than they can build frenzy) its a whole different story with veteran or gods forbid, champion ones. I too agree there needs to be some attention brought to this monster skill, but I don’t think it really needs to be nerfed so much as tweaked to work properly (the max stacks inducing a daze countdown timer followed by stack removal).

Since I main necro I can tell your our class has the hardest time with these, but the key to them is freezes and blinds. While a single blind is worthless against them, Well of Darkness is your best friend. Freezes keep their movement in check too, so use every freeze you have available then dps them down or lay on conditions if that’s what you do. If you’re able to trait into curses enough to get the trait skill chilling darkness you can stack some long freezes on them with each well of darkness pulse. Hope this helps.

Must have missed that. I never actually tried to fear them when I fought them last. But I still ran around in circles laying down every available staff AoE, and it worked for me, just took a bit of time.

I guess your suggestion might be better, if you have the skills or skill points for it.

IMO running around in circles laying traps is a lame game mechanic to forced to play. Also, the crazy stacks of frenzy make them dificult to outrun unless you have a ground targeting cripple skill, so you have to resort to exploiting their inability to follow you when you jump off the stairs to maintain separation from them untill their frenzy cools down.

Can’t cripple them with unstoppable either, only frozen works. But you hit it on the head, the cooldown of frenzy and the inability to remove it on your own with any skill or tactic makes this broken. I know so many “l2p” morons always say “well don’t let them hit you at all and they won’t build frenzy l2p” but while I’m happy every abom fight they get into works 100% flawlessly for them and they are the only target it ever goes after, they rest of us are not happy with the current state of it. The recent nerf to their hp/def was not the answer because now in Orr I can literally bomb about 5 of these in a group with a few aoe’s and wipe them off the map (non-vet/champ versions) and kind of defeats the purpose of having frenzy on them at all. But you throw them against players who can’t chew them up and you get what the OP showed us in his screenshot. wow…this was way longer than I intended sorry lol.
