I like the fact how the mail system works in GW2 as well as the Trading Post (besides the non preview wich will come soon enough). However the TP is expensive for both posting fees and selling fees, mind you have seen worse in other games. However, as a player I’d like to see a few diffrent selling options for us crafters etc.

1. A Mail CoD feature with a 48hr return mail. In essence just the option to add a amount that has to be paid to the sender before you can withdraw a sent item, if this item is not picked up within 48 hrs it will be returned to the sender. I can just imagine the changes needed to be made but I’m sure alot of people would use this over the TP.

2. Personal Store, always liked using these in various games. setup your shop description, add the items to sell (or buy even maybe?). make this maybe into a item one can purchase through a merchant? (money sink)

3. Lowering the fees for posting on the Trading Post. This is a option as well…
A total of 15% of the listing price is a wee bit much at the moment for most of the high priced items. I know some people don’t really care about it but it needs to be lowered. One can work around it and just add 15% on the items to cover it but you will never sell anything. I’d like to see a change to 5% tax at sold and 2% for listing.
Money sink you say? well yes its a HUGE money sink, don’t ask why some items are so expensive..

4. If you need a Money sink for trading the other 2 suggestions above could help cover the TP trading cut of taxes…
For CoD add a 1-2% tax for each item in a mail (only if the seller picks up the mail of course) on CoD amount.
For Store add a 1-2% tax per item on each items selling price (when an item gets sold!)

Well these are just a few thoughts on trading i had.
I doubt we’ll see anything like it ingame but it’s a suggestion

Do you have any reasons why you think these changes are a good idea beyond a general whine that the TP fees are too high ?

Point by point response:
1 – CoD mail would have the same effects as introducing a trade window. Effects that ANET doesn’t want, which is why they didn’t include them. To get ANET to change their mind, you’ll need to respond to their reasons. To know those reasons, you’ll need to search the forums to find ANET’s posts.

2 – Personal stores are the worst trading system I’ve seen. Lots of time going store to store looking for what you’re after, because store names rarely say anything useful. For most players, the most accurate name is “my bits and pieces” because of how varied their items will be.
Add a search system to deal with that and people will use that every time. Suddenly the distinction between one store and another becomes meaningless as everyone just uses search. So you’re left with the overheads of running the personal stores plus the search interface which makes it look like a sensible system.

Adding a secondary trade system reduces the volume traded in the trading post, making it more vulnerable to market manipulation.

3 – ANET picked the 15% total based on how they think it will affect the GW2 economy as a whole. The gold sink part is very important. Reducing the tax rate is reducing the gold sink, meaning prices will only go higher. So, even if ANET does decide to add in a different system, it will have the same fees. Any difference in fees and players will just use whichever has the lowest.

Keeping it the way it is now makes it very difficult for gold sellers to move gold from person to person. They aren`t going to change it.
