Maintenance notifications
I agree with this, actually, with today’s maintenance there were a few other things to point out.
1) The client would give an error code to me of 42.0.9001.3858.101 which according to the support site is likely due to firewall settings on my PC. The client should know ahead of time if the port is blocked on via communcations or if is a port forwarding issue on the server side (message like: Login Services aren’t available at this time). After clicking OK a ‘invalid user id / password’ would show up no the main form.
2) When using the client there is a link for “Forgot my Password”, using that it opens a new web page that said the feature was currently unavailable. However, if you went to guildwars2.com and used Login > Forgot my password you would actually get the form displayed but then be told that you were doing something wrong.
With both inconsitancies I wasn’t sure if I was being hacked at the time. I was in game having issues so I knew it was related to upgrade (intuitively) but shouldn’t really have to make that leap.
I would also recommend that if login services are down then it gets added to a main page instead of relying on people searching foums. New people that are logging in for the first time (just purchased) don’t really know how to use that feature.
Please don’t get me wrong, I understand unforseen issues and developments efforts to resolve as soon as possible. This is really meant as constructive feedback and suggestion to lessen the frustration on the gamers side. I have no issue w/ game going down to do improvements, but, I also need to know it’s not my computer (or spending 20 minutes troubleshooting my PC).
Hope this is helpful.
Agreed. Having the client kick me out with no way to find out what the heck was going on is ridiculous. Tonight was the only night in the next few weeks and a friend of mine and I could both be on, and we were really, really looking forward to playing together.
Or, here’s an idea: save maintenance for a time outside of peak usage. Like, say, the middle of the night. That’s one thing that Blizzard does well: servers come down for maintenance at 3 or 4 am, server time, which causes the least amount of disruption to players.
Totally agree. I had a similiar experience:
Being disconnected while in the middle of an auction house transaction
Given error code that clearly put the problem on the client side when in fact it was server side maintenance (found out later)
Spending time trying to debug a non- existent problem
Suggestions:
More informative and accurate error messages
Regularly scheduled maintenance in off peak hours – published to player base
Urgent maintenance includes at least a 30 minute warning to players
Thanks,
Greyden
