Vials Maize Balm Exploit(Halloween) 2014
Locked out of JP (Wintersday) 2015
Please Make character alternate between swinging both weapons, when wealding 2 melee weapons. It looks more akin to a low budget free to play, than a triple A title like this, constant robotic movement characters execute when wielding 2 weapons. Keep same skills mechanics but for the love of god, please alternate say swing once with the axe, 2 with the sword (off weapon) even if the skill executed when auto attacking is always the same.
This, also I noticed this happens on the Engineer when dual wielding pistols. Only 1 fires. Kind of silly not to use the second gun.
You do realize that all your #1-3 skills use your primary weapon, and the #4 and #5 skills use your secondary right?
Unless you’re Thief, where #3 skill, by default, uses both in some manner.
Warrior also has #4 on the axe called Dual Strike, that explicitly states that you hit the enemy with both weapons, and the animation does exactly that.
It’s not a bug, it’s a purposeful and meaningful animation corresponding to the way weapon skills are designed.
The thing is there is no basic autoattack in GW2 like in other mmos, the only thing you have are skills for your left weapon and skills for your right weapon, each of which is animated when used appropriately. Other games can use the generic dual swing animation because they have attacks outside of the skills a class can utilize regardless of the weapons they are actually holding, however GW2 does not have such attacks hence why you also can’t attack with bare hands. Swinging both weapons for skill #1 would be wrong, because the skill #1 isn’t a dual attack nor is it actually a basic autoattack, it’s a skill with its own set of special properties.
Granted there is no auto attack, how ever, it is not meaningful which weapon is swinging, when swinging more than one time per second. I realize it is intentional, but it is also too visible and the contribution to the game play is marginal.
I like it the way it is now. It’s more realistic. If I want my offhand weapon to swing, I have to use an offhand ability. Makes sense to me.
Valid points, but here is something that is not really an issue just something to think about. Why are the main hand weapon skills on the left of the skill bar when your toon’s main hand is on the right and the secondary skills are on the right when the secondary weapon is on the left?
I am sorry but as i said before, the default auto attack skill, is not that meaningful as to need its own unique attack animation. The animation for the off hand skills are meaningful and visually distinctive enough as to not be confused with a regular swing. Having the Character swing his right arm for 5 minutes straight like a robot reeks of low budget free to play.
What default auto attack? You can set it to any number.
Apolo, you’re still missing the point.
Your #1 skill isn’t just some arbitrary attack – it’s tied in to your mainhand weapon type as well as damage. It doesn’t make any lick of sense to make a weapon skill that is clearly derived from your mainhand weapon, swing both your weapons.
Furthermore, think of the large number of weapon combinations available. Sure, if user has two swords, it may visually (though not in terms of skill usage) make sense for both to swing, but what if user has, say, sword/shield, or sword/axe, or sword/dagger? Trying to build some animations for all of those would be very time consuming and not really a good way to spend resources.
Also, if you’re swinging nothing but your mainhand weapon for five minutes straight, you’re not quite playing this game too well. Both my warrior and my thief use both their weapons quite often, as I alternate 1-3 and 4-5 skills depending on situation. It looks perfectly fine, and makes perfect sense.
This image of a “low budget free to play” is just something that only you have stuck in your mind. And to paraphrase here: “Free your Mind”

Oh, i do get your point, i think it is rather irrelevant, which is not the same as not understand it. Take Axe+Sword.
Visualy:
Axe+Sword
1- Autoattack
2- Axe Whirlwind attack
3- Throw an axe
4- Throw a sword
5- “Guard your self with the sword”
Axe+Axe
First 3 the same
4- A Cross slash with both weapons simultaneously
5- A persistent longer and more exaggerated Whirlwind strike.
How exactly does it matter if the auto attack swings the sword and the axe intermittently?. If the skill description is an issue, just remove the axe reference from there, for all that matters.
