Make Guild Wars 2 Open Source + Changes
Reserved for More
Yeah, no, that’ll never happen.
How would it be moderated to prevent exploitation?
Overall, this just seems like a bad idea:
- What you think is a good addition may not be well received by the rest of the community.
- What people would try to implement may not fit in with the design that ANet has for the game.
Personally, I’d rather ANet develop tools for us to create instanced content (i.e. Mini-Dungeons) that we can place in the world (Kinda like STO’s and NWO Foundry).
Time is a river.
The door is ajar.
NO. I’m all for open source software but in this case I’d rather it stay closed to avoid oh… you know…. clients widely distributed you can download made for cheating.

Some good suggestions on your list, but as I’m sure you realise, this isn’t going to happen.
After careful consideration and weighing all the positives and negatives, I’ve decided to make an effort make Guild Wars 2 an open source community game.
Putting effort towards something that’ll a/ never happen and b/ is not your choice. That’ll keep you busy for a while. I would reconsider if I were you.
Maybe you should start an open source project from scratch instead of trying to get your hands on proprietary code.
Delayed content is eventually good. Rushed content is eternally bad. ~ Shigeru Miyamoto
Hmm, 5 years in development, million’s of dollars spent …. how about no?
Don’t you find it adorable when people who don’t even have a hint of what a clue might possibly look like, suddenly come up with what they think are “GENIUS IDEAS”?
It’s so horribly misguided you can’t help but feel it’s also kinda cute. Like a 12 year old kid saying that if we wanted to go faster in space traveling we should just use more rockets!
OP, I suggest you look into what “open source” and “proprietary code” mean. In definition and in both a pragmatic and business sense. You don’t dump millions of dollars and 5 years of development time into a long-term investment plan to then turn around and suddenly release the game code willy nilly.
I just wish… their graphics/texture/map files weren’t in a huge 16gb bundle so I could segregate files into my ramdisk.
GW2 has an obscene amount of loading.
16Gb o.o" Are you sure you are playing GW2
EDIT: My bad it really is 16gb

‘Adorable’ isn’t the word I would use …
Open sourcing doesn’t solve any the items listed. Some are actually PURPOSELY left out.
Open sourcing has no benefit for ANet and only creates more problems. One of the items is basically a license to create private servers.
