Yes you can fast travel, but I’m a cheapskate and I’m sure a vast majority of people are cheapskates who use the Mists long-cut to save a few silver every now and then. Putting a portal (really just relocate your home instance to Lion’s Arch) will save on a lot of useless travel.
If you’re going to take the long way through WvW to save money, that’s your choice. It is a choice that involves more time, and yes, “tedium.” I don’t see the problem.
Yeah I wouldn’t mind a teleport stone that allows you to TP into your home instance from anywhere in the world being added as a Living story reward, especially if more an more stuff gradually gets built into your home instance

It also might mean I would use my own city rather than LA more. As going to my Home Instance then out the door would be as easy as PvP then LA.
What if they gave you access to an home instance in Lion’s Arch as a prize for having completed the personal story?
I mean, you aren’t the mighty and esteemed Trahearne, but as his faithful lackey you would still deserve at least some accomplishment in the form of a place to stay during your travels.
