The above says it all
Allow the option to hide the helmet available on the character selection screen for those of us (myself included) who want to look at our toon’s ugly mug.

Yes please. You know we all want it.

Technically the title doesn’t say all, it gets cut out half way through, but i agree. I can’t stand how all the medium armor i have encountered so far, the helm is a mask that looks really bad to me and doesn’t fit my class at all (engineer) and always have it hidden but i am forced to look at it all the time on the character selection.

Yes please, I would love the hide/show headgear option to apply to the char selection screen. I think it worked this was in GW1.

I completely agree. My helmet if surpressed on my Charr Warrior for a reason. The same goes for the shoulders on my Thief. It would be nice for the Character Selection screen to recognize those appearance preferences.

I’d like this, if for no other reason than taking screenshots. I like to use the char select screen for screenshots, because the characters are nice and big and well-lit.

Agreed. My warrior has a pretty nice suit of armour ruined by a helmet I can’t stand looking at. I can hide it in the game itself, though being forced to look at it on the character selection screen is a little irritating! A minor cosmetic change, though I’m sure it’ll do a lot of good.

I approve of this idea.

I second this idea, and would like to add a suggestion:
Create toggles to display/hide head and shoulder gear during dialogue cutscenes. Or perhaps simply bring this in line with the current hide/unhide options.
Honestly, why would a warrior remove his/her helmet when he/she is exchanging taunts and challenges with a major story enemy. And similarly, why would an elementalist remove his/her circlet when talking to Logan Thackeray, Caithe, or Zojja?

Yeah, the easiest implementation would probably be to just make it global. Hide/unhide in all. I did kinda like the GW system of hide/unhide in explorable areas and/or towns, but it’s probably best to just make it universal. If you want you can change to town clothes in town.
But yeah, I would like the cutscenes and loading screen to reflect my aesthetic choices for my character.

I agree — it would be nice if your characters’ appearance on the select screen reflected your in-game helm/shoulder show/hide preference, for each character.

Mass Effect 3 did this. You had a few options for your helmet: Always Show, Hide in Dialogue, and Always Hide. There may have even been an option to show in dialoge only. It was very good because, as in GW2, many helmets were visors or masks which look good in cutscenes.
They had an option that was so similar in GW1. I don’t know why this got overlooked.

I like this suggestion, has bugged me from day 1, not too much but I’d like to see it implemented.

so much this, I want it so badly!
But I’m affraid they won’t do that anyway. Now the best solution is to find some non-invasive piece of headgear and transmute into it (gemsink). It’s easy to do for light and medium armour users, not sure how about heavy because I don’t roll any heavy armour character yet but I don’t recall any non-invasive heavy helmet.
By the way T3 cultural heavy for Charr is kinda kitten, especialy in comparisment with medium “Emblazoned” (craft)

I don’t really care about this but if it’s not too hard to implement, why not.

This would be great. My medium armor ranger looks classy until his mask and shoulder armor shows. My mesmer looks creepy with the drama mask.
I don’t see why more options are ever a bad thing. Let the players decide what they want.

Agreed; thought of this the very first time I saw my character selection screen with my head armor piece showing when I had just unchecked the box in order to hide it.
